  1. Pro Braves, Cowboys, Blues, Dallas Burn (MLS Brad Davis' team)

College Basketball SLU, anyone playing S.P.U.M.A.C. (scandal plagued university Missouri at Columbia), most Catholic Schools (not ND), CUSA schools

College Football Auburn, anyone playing Alabama

International Sporting Events USA, Germany, Slovenia (I just have a soft spot for those guys)

  2. I do not know much about the NBA. However, I never thought that Isiah was the right choice for head coach. He may have an eye for talent or a talent for listening to the right people that have an eye for talent I'm not sure. Listening to him speak I never thought that he was intelligent enough. He always struck me as someone who is just not that smart. I don't think just because you were a great basketball player that you can be a great coach.

  3. Lets look at the Valley last year...hmmm....well you have only 4 teams with winning records. Those teams were Valley Ranked #1 SIUC, #2 Creighton, #3 Wichita St. and #4 SMS. Could we not be in at least the top three in the Valley if we finished in the top 4 of CUSA? Most likely. Why? Well CUSA has final four Marquette, perennial power Louisville, Cincincatti, and decent programs like Charlotte (who had a bad year) and DePaul (who had a decent year w/ new coach). Let's look at Wichita St.'s record:

WSU played 7 games v. teams that went to the tourny and won 1. Had an RPI of 121. SLU played 11 games v. teams that went to the tourny and won 5. We won 500% more games against teams that went to the tourny than Wichita St. and our RPI is less than half of WSU at 47. What makes you think that SLU would not be in the top of this conf. again?

Hey why don't you mention that SLU's rpi is higher because we played teams like Cincy, UofL, and Marq.? Well that is because we are in a better conference and we want to stay that way. I think some teams in the Valley do play decent basketball SIUC, Creighton, and SMS (when they are playing SLU but that is about to end) but I don't want to join them. I'll just admire from afar as the conf. tourny decides which one team will get in to the NCAAs (most years).

PS We spanked SIUC badly. I was there courtside seats it was really really ugly especially the first half.

  4. Your right the coaching staff had the two suspensions and the Morris eligibility issue on the radar. They had to know about that after the Ohanan season and the problems at Nova. They may not have known about McClain. Prior to McClain they may have considered just banking the scholarship of Morris but now that 2 are open do you think they want to do that with both? I wouldn't I'd find someone. Got to be some kid with skills floating around.

  5. You can thank me by giving some inside poop. Now we have 2 scholarships open what do we do? Use one up in a hurry like we did on Drejaj/Bryant/Johnson? Give it to Hunt? Hold on to it? Should we beg Ahearn to come to SLU (just kidding)?

If Denard is available let's get him. If a transfer is out there let's get him. I advocate using it but time is short school is starting now.

  6. Wow when it rains it pours. Well we really need to win these games so we don't run into a situation like we had last year (could've been dancin' except for the ugly losses). Varner might have to pick up some minutes. Maybe this does force our hand to try to fill that newly openend scholarship quickly.

  7. Maybe Memphis and SLU could join the A-10.

No way would an SEC team leave for the ACC. The SEC had the biggest cash dissemination amongst members ever last year.

Memphis has backers with $ (FEDEX) TV Market, SLU has some dolla bills as well. Money talks and the two markets are good for television. But let's not count on this MU, UL, DeP to Big East thing just yet.

  8. I have to agree. I would pick to stay with Memphis over SIUC. Yes SIUC made the tourny and they made the sweet 16, Creighton has made the tourny as well. However, Drake, Evansville, Ill St., Wichita St., Northern Iowa are all not as good as TCU, UH, UAB, or USF in my opinion. UH has some history and the schools are in Metro Areas for TV. The MVC had only 4 winning teams last year.

I think this side by side comparison should clear up any misconceptions. Take out Marq., Cincy, UofL, DePaul. You have Memphis as the highest rpi team at #27, SLU next at #47, then teams #86, 146, 122, 143, 135, 214, 157, 196. MVC has four teams in the 200s. That is almost 1/2 the conference. Charlotte had an uncharacteristically bad year and would probably be up there with Memphis.

I'd rather go Mountain West than MVC.

  9. I think the funny thing about people like Snyder is that the can recruit because they have good people skills. That is whey they can end up coaching at Schools in Good Conferences. I could do that I just don't have the basketball coaching knowledge but I bet I could recruit players. Remember Roy that time I gave you a shirt? That is how it all starts.

I don't want to go back overthere. I have spent 6mo in Kuwait and 4 months in Iraq the past 2 yrs. that is enough. I have to go to the Mojave Desert for training the mo. of SEP. I'm getting really tired of all the sand. It interrupts my sports.

  10. Things can change quick with a 18,19 or 20 year old male. I heard not that long ago from a credible source that Floyd was looking forward to playing this year. That changed real quick. I work with a 6'10 270lbs. dude. He went to Texas Tech for a few months, he was going to be redshirted and he said he didn't think he was going to make grades so he left 7 games into the season. When asked why he didn't go to a JUCO for a year or two he just said I don't know. So he joined the Army. He has a 3 yr. committment. I wonder if he can get out of that? Hmmm.

Oh yeah, we also have another kid in the Battalion that was a walk-on at Charlotte. I thought about putting together a battalion basketball team with these ringers but I don't know anything about coaching just recruiting players. I guess that would kind of make me like the Quinn Snyder of Ft. Sill.

  11. I am not discouraged by this game. I only read the synopsis but it is still early in the season and I don't think SLU had all of their top players. Does anyone know if DiRaimondo and Graizer were there? According to this article it seems that they were playing for the U17 National team in Finland.

If they weren't there and they are two of our young stars that bodes well for this team.

  12. We were one of the top teams in terms of fewest amount of turn overs in the NCAA last year. I'm not a fan of Bobby Knight but his philosophy is to play smart and cut down on all those mistakes such as fouls and turn overs. I agree with that. We may not have barn burners but as long as they control the ball and make smart choices we can play with anyone. Guys that can shoot won't hurt either (I'll qualify that with guys that can shoot and aren't afraid too).

  13. I have been told from people that said they heard it from Floyd that he is ready to play this year. While not playing he had put on some weight (not muscle) but he has dropped that weight and feels better than he has for some time.

  14. Lucas would be a good get. What is up with him sending his papers to Georgia? What Georgia coaching staff did doesn't compare to Bliss but still why would you leave one scandalous program for another? Whoever moves into this Baylor job has a definite uphill battle. Lucas will have to decide in the next 3 days or so to enroll in school in time.

  15. Anyone out there like a Reggie Bryant looking for a team? If Denard qualified let's go ahead and get him if not maybe some transfer. There might not be enough time school starts Monday (I think). We wouldn't want the new recruit to miss any Oriflamme events and then they wouldn't know anyone on their floor and would be isolated. Also alot of the classes are already filled he might get stuck taking Theology 101 with a really hard professor like I did.

  16. DesMet the Stanford Mascot that you see courtside actually changes from year to year. The normal Tree that is used on some of their logos is a Redwood (I think). The mascot you see at games is designed by the person that gets to be the mascot. That is why they had a Palm Tree a few years ago. Do you remember the spinning redwood they had that would just spin round and round? UC SC and UC Irvine both have unique mascots Bannana Slugs and Anteaters respectively. The unique mascot and hat craze has been over for some time now it peaked about 1997. The hats you saw everyone wearing (white with the 3 bars) are made by "The Game" and are called bar caps. SLU could've sold more hats during that time if it pushed the one that had BILLIKENS in large letters across the front instead of the one that read SLU. However, I did run into a guy wearing a BILLIKENS bar cap in SW Oklahoma. Upon questioning he was actually an OK St. grad and bought the hat in Stillwater OK.

  17. I read the story and I believed everything Ms. Bunge said until, "but a lot of it was really nice Brooks Brothers stuff (referring to clothing gifts from Quin to Clemons)." No black dude from Southern Cali is going to wear Brooks Brothers clothes. If I'm the defense attorney for Scandal Plagued University of Missouri At Columbia (SPUMAC) I would focus on that point.

I love college athletics but not at the expense of the integrity of individuals and institutions. I understand mistakes are made and we all have flaws. Some are just much more flawed than others.

Maybe Snyder could save his job by defending his own program in court pro bono. He could put his knowledge of the law and rules to use it is pretty evident he hasn't yet.

  18. SLU could open up it's books to Vahe but they don't have to. Say no and they are done with the issue save for those like aj asking what they have to hide which will only last for a short time. They say no, stay out of the whole affair and they are no worse for it. We don't need to be associated with the issues that Boone County Vo-Tech are experiencing we should just stay out of it.
