  1. For what it's worth I remember Claggs having a great shot his freshman year and it was made even better by the fact that he could shot off the run unlike most of the good shooters SLU has had who could only drill the "3" if standing still or squared up e.g. Scott H, Virgil C, Drew D etc...

  2. Isn't it amazing that a blatant racist like Tuna can get away with all his remarks since they are "for effect", while Rush gets canned for just injecting race into a discussion-quite a world we've evolved into to!!

Regarding Tuna and DJ on KSDK Sports Plus, as much as I like Frank, I've long since switched to Steve Savard's Sunday night show since it doesn't provide a regular forum for racism. I much prefer sports over racism at 10:30 Sunday night. Savard's show is excellent and most importantly is just about sports.

  3. From what I've read on this Board it seems like the impression I have of our new recruit is a new Monroe Douglas-about the same size, with great athletic ability, a slasher-type scorer without a great outside shot. Can any of you who have seen both players confirm or correct me?

  4. It's official-I heard parts of his press conf. on 1380 today. He seemed excited about pairing up with D Polk in the backcourt and said one of his reasons for picking SLU is that he would like to play the point sometimes and Brad told him he would have that opportunity. Said Brad contacted him the most and had almost become part of the family.

WAY TO GO BRAD AND STAFF!!!

  5. Roy you are absolutely right-what are they thinking toying w/ the ACC for football. They don't need anyone for football what with their own TV contract and no need to share/split Bowl $$. I agree that all they need is a conf. for non-football sports and if they called the following schools they would be in a better conf., at least from a travel standpoint.

Marq., Depaul, SLU, Xav., Dayton, Temple, St. Joe, Nova, St. Johns, Seton Hall and Charlotte. Add ND to this list and you have a great BB and other sports conf. Georgetown actually might be better than one of the above. I can't imagine any of these schools turning ND down on a power con. like this.

  6. I pretty much agree with you (see my post a few days ago) with one exception-#7. I have been very impressed with DC and think he will be a real contributor this year. For the sake of the team, I hope I'm right.

    Thanks for the report.

  7. I'd have to disagree. From what I've read it seems that DW is waiting for the Big East to decide what they are going to do b/4 deciding what SLU is going to do. I say screw the Big East-let's take the lead on puting together a great basketball conference and let the Big East BB schools come begging us to add an Eastern Division.

I suggest the following schools to start:

    Xavier

    Dayton

    Butler

    Creighton

    Depaul

    Marquette

    Charlotte

    SLU

I believe we would develop some great rivalries in that group.

If some or all of the Big East BB schools want to join a Conference with similar interests we could then form an East Div. and possibly shift Charlotte into that group. What a great BB Conf. that would be and travel costs would be far less than we now incur in CUSA. Who wouldn't want to replace S Fla, S Miss, TCU etc with the above listed schools.

  8. After watching a couple of workouts I thought I'd post a short report, especially for you out of town folks.

I was very pleased with out JUCO center recruit-much more athletic than I expected.

The Greek recruit was not intimidated as a freshman in a new country-he was willing to mix it up and should help this year although I wouldn't look for him to be an impact player as a freshman.

The 7'1" freshman was a pleasant surprise-he moves much better than I had heard and while on the thin side, he would not be described as skinny. He had decent skills and could contribute this year if he had to although a redshirt would probably help.

Darren Clarke was a big surprise-much better than I hoped-appears to be an excellent shooter and decent ballhandler-should really help this year.

JJ has added some pounds but did not stand out-may be ok but not ready to be a star.

AD looks really good and works harder than anyone else-his shot looks to be as good as at the end of last year if not better-he will get lots of minutes.

Reggie looks like a good replacement for Perry's points-he can really score.

Izak looks stronger and a bit more aggressive-still not strong enough to rebound against a big body.

CS looks ready to have a very good final year-his shooting continues to look good like last year.

Ross V looked better and should be able to play 10 minutes a game and give us something (I didn' say a lot, I said something)

JF looks much the same as last year-played the point and took very few shots when I was there.

Sorry if I forgot anyone but these are my quick impressions.

  9. I like your setup with minor modifications.

    1) Drop Fordham and the Bonnies for 6 teams in the East.

    2) Add either Creighton or Butler to the West for 6 teams-I agree with xujoe that ND probably will stay with the BE football playing schools but if not take them instead of Creighton or Butler.

This seems to make so much sense that I casn't imagine why it wouldn't happen.
