I would definetely hope we have home and homes with our divisional opponents. The less we have to play fordham, Lasalle, and duquesne (hoepfully they will get booted) the better.
-
It must be really brning Ramsey up that we aren't going to the MVC.
-
They are an improving league. The teams at the bottom though are very very bad. It would not be too bad to dominate a league without question though. A team with the national clout SLU has can get good non con games and top rankings without playing in a power conference.
-
Oh I forgot, also out of bounds is any reports of bad play by Ross Varner.
-
It is allowed to talk about practice. The only thing I would think that would be out of bounds are specificically mentioning players names who are singled out or disciplined or describing tactics and strategies practiced for use against specific opponents. Otherwise everything else is fair game.
-
If I remember correctly Orlando sucker punched John Duff and took off running out of the gym and was never heard from since. Maybe he finally stopped running and decide to post on the board and see how things are doing at his old school.
-
Unbelievable.
Friendly Tiger fan admit it, you want SLU in the MVC so it can back uyp tiger fan assertions that we are a mid major program, not worthy of getting good players or having a any media exposure. Really you want us there so the Tigers don't have SLU as competition. Anyway why could you only be a fan of SLU if they were in the MVC? Do you enjoy watching subpar basketball?
Valley fan your jealousy is very apparent. SLU will be a top A-10 team and be a contender for the A-10 title every year. Losing to LaSalle and Fordham???????? I don't think so.

This is why Gordon is not allowed to have collumn in the actual newspaper.
-
I may be wrong but I thought this was a very early date for the first exhibition game. Usually the guys have at least another week of practice before they get on the court together. I think that played a big role in why we started so slow. In two weeks with our next one we should be much better prepared.

Western Kentucky catapaulting the MVC 5 or 6 spots in the conference RPI rankings??????? The MVC could add Duke or Arizona and I still would like the A-10 over them.
This other conference talk is dumb anyways, Horizon, MVC, MAC none of those are going to happen. The A-10 is a done deal.
-
Agreed, kudos to Brad as I think he was over the most influential sports guy in town who was very down on SLU just a short time ago.
-
We have plenty of time. We would join the A-10 in 05-06, if we begin construction within the next few months it should be done if not before the start of the season certainly during it.
-
I refuse to get into a "I know more than you know" argument with you. You think Varner played well thats fine.
-
Ekker is already married to the one cheerleader and since he is a coach with the Cleveland cavaliers he has their dance team at his disposal.
-
Pulley would be the last recruit from the Romar era. I love Sloan and Fisher has always been competent but Romar really did not give us much at all.
-
Stu mentioned nothing. It is amazing how much data we have on this board than Stu does. I had to call in and tell Bernie about the report in the Richmond paper and the report from the GW paper that the announcements would be on thursday.
-
Drejaj really impressed me. He is the heir apparent on defense to Fisher and he could very easily be a double digit scorer this year as well. Very strong, showed good ballhandling, what a great get by Brad.
-
BU is a pipe dream. Great news that SLU will shortly have their conference shuffling done for now.
-
I think Woolard needs to hire a team tailor. Maybe I will ask him about it tonite on the radio.
-
I second that, great showing by the blue crew. Keep it up.

>(1) RV doesn't set "some" screen, he sets alot of screens as
>do both low-post players in Coach Soderberg's motion
>offense.
>(2) SLU doesn't play man-to-man defense. SLU plays Coach
>Brad's PAK defense which, as I understand it, is pressure on
>the ball/shooter and everybody else packing the lane against
>the drive and providing off-ball help.
>(3) RV is an average athlete, with above average smarts,
>working hard to help his team by being a 6-6 PF in a major
>bball conference.
>(4) in game one, RV got 29 minutes because SLU didn't have a
>better option than RV, a point of fact you fail to recognize
>and accept.
>(5) RV, like Deiner last season, is what he is! Accept it,
>appreciate his effort, and his 4.0 gpa, and pray for quick
>development by Ian, a mental adjustment by JJ, and better
>recruiting.
>
Like I said everybody sets screens, we shouldn't be amking such a big deal about it. No one lauds Sloan's screeening efforts because it is expected of him.
If you are suggesting SLU plays closer to a zone you are wrong. Brad plays a variation of a man to man. Each player has a man to guard, the positioning on the floor is irrelevant. If you miss your assignment you miss your assignment and for a guy like Varner who bring nothing to the table athletically he can't make many mistakes on the court. Missing defensive assignments is not good for Freshman much less a guy like Varner. He can't afford to make those mistakes, his play last night did not warrant the minutes he got. It is a big problem that we do not have any other options beside him. But don't tell me Varner is not immune from criticism just cuz he isn't as talented as other players. He has a job to do and when he does not do it he deserves to critsized and his minutes deserve to be scrutinized.

The best decision Pulley can make is not to shoot.
-
I am probably one of the guys you are speaking of. We will probably end up closer to 15 wins than 20 but if you don't have high hopes why hope at all.
-
Ross is horrible, it is not BS it is facts. 7 points, great he is a spot up shooter, and sets some screens. His rebounding against a thin exhibition team upfront was poor, in fact Ross jumping ointo the scrum late cost us a couple boards.
His defense was horrendous, it seems he forgot how to play man to man. It was not a lack of athleticism, AIA were not speed demons, Ross could not follow his man amd was out of position several times and we got burned.
Varner is not my "whipping boy." I am concerned one because he is so mediocre and two because it appears he wil get a large amount of playing time. We are hurting the team when he is on the floor for long stretches. Like I said before if he is our first big man option off the bench we are in trouble.

That was my whole point. I listen with envy any time I hear Kelly or Sundvold talk about Tiger hoops. They constantly push the program, and they really don't need to. Ramsey is so lukewarm on everything, plus his obvious conflict of interest with the valley, it makes it hard for me to believe he is a real fan of SLU. He does go out of his way to not discuss SLU on his radio show, that is not what we need. Frank is the only true SLU homer, Earl as well. I would really like to see a credible area sportcaster just be an outright supporter of SLU, we don't have that with Ramsey.
