Jacober has a nice voice for a sports broadcaster. That is the only compliment I can give him.

Brad Soderberg was just on Sports on a Sunday Morning with Ron Jacober. Ron asked when SLU's starting point guard, Reggie Bryant, would be back in the lineup.
I don't think KMOX is going to make a big effort to cover SLU when they aren't even on their station yet. Maybe when they start broadcasting some games they will pay attention.

Marque led Roanoke to a 97-90 victory over reigning regular season champion Fayetteville in his first game as a pro. Perry led all players with 21 points and 11 assists. He also had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. He shot 7-9 from the field and 7-8 from the FT line. He did also lead all players with 7 TOs and 44 minutes played.
Marque's coach had this to say after the game --
"I thought Marque and George (Williams) played well, tonight,’’ Davison said. "(Perry) wasn’t even a point guard until he turned pro. You couldn’t tell it tonight. He made great decisions with the ball and he hit some key jump shots."

Izik needs to tell Guy how to say his name. Guy used several variations of Izik's last name in the agaisnt EKU.

This post was drawn to my attention on another board

What's the name of that utter imbecile on St. Louis talk radio who, day after day after day, says that SLU's Brad Soderberg is the best college basketball coach in the state of Missouri? I think his name is Frank Cusamano or something similar.
Soderberg coached his mighty Billikens to a 64-58 rout of Eastern Kentucky in their home opener last night. EKU finished 11-17 last year and in 8th place in the rugged Ohio Valley Conference. They are picked to be just a little bit worse this season. Soderberg's tactical genius came through in the clutch as the Bills broke open a nail-biter down the stretch. The raucous Savis Center, in which approximately one out of every four seats was filled, provided the much-needed home court advantage for two teams so evenly matched they were otherwise indistinguishable.
We witnessed a coaching clinic, Mr. Cusamano, and I deeply, deeply regret that Mizzou doesn't have Brad Soberberg at the helm. He has recruited like nobody I have ever seen, has taken this program to the bright lights of the Atlantic 10 Conference, and the very mention of his name harkens images of Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp and John Wooden, himself. St. Louis as a community should be very, very proud.

Nice to see Mizzou fans are still obsessed with little old SLU.

I thought our interior defense was good as well. JJ did an excellent job. Varner was burned on 4 or 5 plays, just does not ahve the quickness to get around screens and their one PF took it to him inside, IMO Varner was helpless. JJ comes in for him though and shuts him down on the next play.
I thought Izik at least was making attemtps to play defense last night. He usually plays alot with his hands and doesn't move his feet but last night he did. He had a block and a tipped ball. He can do alot better but I thought he improved.
Frericks stood up tot heir guys inside, I had more problems with his poor rebounding than his post defense. The last play where he took the ball up I am okay with, there were no players on his side of the basket to outlet pass to, and he was cut off from everyone else. He seems to take the ball up weak though on shots.
-
I think his one on one skills may be the best on the team. His post play is also pretty slick. His passing was good tonight. He just cannot finish shots, and makes silly mistakes and dumb TOs. His defense was improved tonight, but he cannot rebound at all.
I think so much is expected of him because he is 1)6'9 2)Handles the ball like a point guard 3)Can get to the hoop He has talent has yet to put it all together. I have problems with his game but the potential is there to be a dominant offensive player. Whether he ever lives up anywhere near his potential I have no idea. He has only in spurts so far in his career.
-
Clarke had one good drive to the basket which he should have shot but he passed it up.
JJ was a nice surprise. Very active on defense and did a very good job on post defense, Brad took Varner off of the blocks after he got burned twice and JJ shut them down.
Varner is Varner. He doesn't make mistakes but has very few plusses in his game. Shot really bad in the second half. Lost his man around a couple screens and was punished on the blocks on defense.
Izik is an enigma. Played very out of control at times. His ankles only looked bad at the end of his drives, he was getting no elevation and could not make quick stops. He threw up some prayers, and why can't he use his left hand on layups? He can dribble with it, instead he goes right and throws up scoops from underneath and behind the basket. I thought he was improved on defense though.
Frericks was okay, good on offense, a litte soft while going up for shots. 4-6 on FTs, that is excellent compared to Kenny. He was decent on post defense although EKU did not offer much but I was dissapointed with his rebounding and that of the team's as a whole.

First season opening win in 3 years. Ugly game but a win is a win.

I will be the Official Billikens.com sponsor of Jorge Wallace.

Most likely there will be free parking on the street. After 6 pm you do not have to for the meter in the city. There are always places on Tucker near market, in the park just to the west of there and places on Locust and Olive from 17th street down to Tucker. It is rare that all the street spots are taken so early in the season especilally if you get to the game 15-20 minutes early.

Agreed the feeling is Washington is to trade Stacks for help in the post.
The only worries i have are that Stacks hates playing SF. Hughes cannot really play that position either so one will have to sit. Putting Hayes on the bench leaves a big hole, beside hughes no one else on the team can play perimeter defense. I think Hu=ghes has played himself into a major role in Washington.

Bernie's pressbox
They are a group of posters there who "sponsor" different cardinal players.
In their sigs they will say "Official Pressbox Sponsor of Mike Matheny." This is exactly what this imposter just did. He obviously reads the Bernie board and more than likely is one of the group of people who sponsor players on that board.

Ford has a lot of different players this year. I don't think they will be a match for the Bills but I wouldn't be shocked if they weren't competitive.
-
In think it would be pointless to ban him unless you know his IP number and can ban that. Even then he can just use a different computer or if he doesn't have a staitc IP it will no do any good. He will just come back as someone else. Obviously this person is deranged and will go great lengths to post here. It would be better to just know who he is than every couple weeks ahve some new troll we have to figure out.
-
I was aware he was playing for them but I have been unable to find a roster for his team or any stats in games. He is supposed to be angling for a spot in Europe after the exhibition season is over.

Give Owens a break, he only does games a couple times a year. He is not familiar with annoucing the different contests and so forth during the game. Guy does the stuff all the time and messes up frequently.
When Owens was announcing consistently he was very good, no nonsense and hardly ever made mistakes or gaffes.
-
Why doens't Owens do the announcing all the time like he used to? Is it his choice or was he pushed aside for Guy. If it is the latter add that one to the list of dumb moves Woolard has made.
-
It is spelled Billiken not Billliken
BTW I am so glad you are back Too, you were missed

Stacks last year with Detroit he played a much better team game and even occasionally played defense. I agree that he is one of these who must be coddled but he just is alot more talented than Rip. Some dumb GM (like the Wizards) will always give a guy like that a chance.
-
Owens definetely.
He used to be the regular announcer for a long time. In fact I don't remember anyone else doing it since I was able to pay attention in the late eighties. Guy Phillips is just horrible, I just don't like his style. If Owens for some reason cannot do it anymore I would suggest getting somone totally new.
-
Hamilton for Stacks was a wash I think. Hamilton is not that good, strictly a shooter, not a good ballhandler, passer, or rebounder and doesn't play defense. It was a mistake to think Rip could be a franchise type player. Stackhouse has alot of ifs, his one season in Detroit he did very well, playing a team game, but with Jordan he went back to his old ways. If Stackshouse doesn't work out he is a more tradeable commodity than Hamilton was.

Probably Arenas was on James, or they might have put Jarvis Hayes on him. I would think Larry would guard Ricky Davis. regardless Cleveland is a bad team, LeBron will get his points because no one else is capable in that lineup.
Larry is ahving a fine start to this season. Hopefully Eddie Jordan will keep him in the lineup and keep giving him the ball on a regular basis. I think larry will be fine when Stacks comes back, Arenas is a good distributor, much better than Tyronn Lue or Jordan was last year. As long as Larry keeps filling it up he will get his share of minutes.

Let me quote Coach Soderberg and his thinking on Ross Varner per last seasons media guide.
"You can't have a team of 12 Ross Varners but you need at least one guiy like that on every team."

Savannah St did somehow get 20 Offensive rebounds against Marquette. That is pretty good regardless of how bad you shoot the ball.
