Izik has to leave after the 04-05 season. He lost a season of eligibilty, he was a sophomore last year. If he was to leave early it would have to be this year.

H Waldman is the 50th best athlete from Nevada????? Wow thats pretty sad, maybe If I had been born in Nevada I could crack the top 500.
-
I heard the game on a few minutes ago, Ramsey and Mcdermott doing the play by play. Ramsey said there will be 11 SLU soccer games on KFNS this year so look out for some more radio games if interested.
-
Ramsey is employed by both SLU and the MVC.
Ramsey did not come out and say the MVC was the best choice for SLU but he did not shrug it off like he should have.
-
Billiken Bob was also espousing the "advantages" of SLU going to the Mo Valley. His final thoughts were that neither situation, either the A-10 or Mo Valley were very good.
-
I just finished listening to Frank's show this morning and I was shocked at the repsonse to the news of SLU being invited to the A-10. All the callers, Tiger Tim and even Frank made it clear that SLU should be joining the Missouri Valley, that this would be the best thing for the school and the future of the program.
This is unbelieveable to me. I think all of us posting here have been repsectful towards the Mo Valley, they run a good tourney here and have some nice teams. Lets get down to brass tacks though, and I preface this by saying I am only going off because I don't want SLU to end up in the Valley. The Valley is bush league, its A Ball, mid major, lucky to get two teams in the tourney and has a top 25 team once a decade. To compare it to the A-10 with or without SLU and Charlotte is ridiculous and wanting SLU to join the Mo Valley, I have to beleive if you want that you either are clinically insane or do not want SLU to have a good basketball team.
I heard all these reasons that SLU should go MO Valley and not A-10.
1. The A-10 is too far away -- I would go to China to be in a big time bball conference over relagating the program to mid major status. Anyone who wouldn't want SLU to be in as good of a conference as it can get, Iask why are you a fan in the first place?
2. There are no interesting rivalries in the A-10 comapred to the Mo Valley -- Hey sure I am not salivating over Duquesne and Fordham coming to play at Savvis, but who is going to get excited about northern Iowa, Bradley, Drake, Illinois St., Evansville, Wichita St.? Just because we play a couple nice games a year against SMS and SIUC doesn't mean we should join their league.
3. Attendance will falter because of playing the aforementioned teams in the A-10 -- Yes and crowds will pack Savvis for Drake. The A-10 has many more good teams than the Missouri Valley, people will show up for games against top 25 teams, people want to watch good basketball, if you want to see some local guys shooting around go watch UMSL. The A-10 gives us the ability to see and play against top caliber competition, bottom line the Missouri Valley doesn't.
4. SLU needs to be in a conference with schools more like them (this is the tiger fan excuse ie go D-3 like Wash U so we do not have to compete with you for good recruits) -- How many Jesuit schools are in the Mo Valley? 2, how many in A-10 4. How many private schools in Missouri valley? 3. How many in the A-10? More than twice as many. Gee which conference is more like us? I'm afraid Mo Valley backers want us to be more like Mo Valley teams, ie have a bad program.
5. The Mo Valley is just as good as the A-10 -- I beg to differ, hey Creighton had a nice run and SIUC made a sweet sixteen but lets look at the numbers --
A-10 RPI
17 Xavier-Ohio
25 Saint Joseph's
33 Dayton
79 Temple
101 St. Bonaventure
103 Rhode Island
106 Richmond
141 George Washington
170 La Salle
197 Massachusetts
222 Duquesne
293 Fordham
MO Valley RPI
21 Creighton
51 Southern Illinois
105 SMS (SW Missouri St.)
124 Wichita St.
168 Evansville
173 Bradley
193 Northern Iowa
221 Illinois St.
227 Drake
248 Indiana St.
It is no contest. Obviously the A-10 is not the ACC, but the Mo Valley wishes it had the RPI numbers the A-10 had. Creighton had an atypical year, can they keep up that play? No way, The Mo Valley is a two tourney team conference, the A-10 3 to 4 at least. Their is no comaprisonthe A-10 is heads and shoulders above the Mo Valley
Is there an advantage to going to the Mo Valley over the A-10? Just one advatage? I don't see it. The A-10 has better basketball, will increase our attendance, has a better national reputation in converage and rankings, and has more schools who are in teh same mold as SLU is. Why then would anyone want SLU to be in the Mo Valley? For the better soccer? C'mon, so we can travel to all the backwoods Illinois road games, Carbondale is not exactly a favorite vacation destination. The only reason I see for going to the Mo Valley is to hold SLU down. SLU would become irrelevant if they went to the Mo Valley, they might as well go d-3. As a SLU fan I want SLU to be the best basketball program possible, we are a good program now. Look how Marquette has improved their national standing in just one year. Joining the Mo Valley we would be giving up an chance of being a top 25 program and a final four and championship contender. SLU is at the biggest crossroads the program has faced since the Ekker era, we have a chance to solidify ourselves once again as a national player, or give up and relagate ourselves to mediocrity. One question that I think can sum it all up, every school in the Valley if in SLU's place would go to the A-10 in a heartbeat. What does that say about people who want to abandon the A-10 and join the Mo Valley?
-
Every conference Dayton is in has the tourney in Dayton eventually. There is nothing to do in Dayton, they could fill 20,000 seats for a jr high girls bb game.
-
It is much easier just to join the A-10. If they drop 2 or 3 weak links which they have suggested they will do they will be just as good as any other conference we could make up. The A-10 is already established, has a tv contract, we would have to start all over with a new conference and how much better would we be?
Who else would we add for this midwest conference?
SLU
Xavier
DePaul
Dayton
Marquette
Charlotte
Who else Creighton, Butler, a couple East coast teams, maybe St. Joes, Temple.
I don't see how that can be a better league than a revamped A-10
SLU
Charlotte
Xavier
Dayton
DePaul
Marquette
UMass
Temple
Richmond
St. Joes
St. Bonaventure
Rhode Island
George Washington
Besides not so much travel a league like this with two divisions would be better than a midwest league. Who knows if some more teams fall off or don't make the cut, other schools could be added.
-
Sloan guarded the other teams two guards effectively his first couple eyars until he got moved to the pivot. Sloan even got to start for a bit his frosh year based solely on his defensive play.
I don't think we are short of guards. Izik can handle the 3. We have 4 decent guards who will be in the rotation, that is more than enough. Hunt is more than enough in an emergency situation, I think you underestimate him. He is no David Burns but he is a solid player for his role.
-
I too would say he is too inconsistent to be "the man" on offense, but he has been playing w/marque, who was the man if there ever was one, and things may open up for him without perry there. I had about the same comments on Jeffers going into his senior season as I do now about Fischer.
-
If Izik performs well enough to garner close to 30 minutes a game we will be a very good team. If not and we are stuck with a 3 guard lineup most of the time we will end up around .500.
-
A more midwestern league might be better than a revamped A-10. The lynchpin though of any midwest catholic conference would have to be Xavier, and they have made it clear that they want and need to have an east coast presence for their recruiting. I don't think they would go to a league where they would be most eastern team.
Mo Valley is the best mid major conference but there really is no comparing the A-10 and Mo Valley, even without the CUSA 4 the A-10 is a superior conference. With the CUSA 4 the A-10 becomes a top 6 conference.
I disagree on the rivalries as well. We can still have our traditional local rivalries with SMS, SIUC and hopefully Mizzou and sometimes Illinois, but I would love to see Temple, UMASS, St. Joes etc come to town. They have much greater appeal than USF, ECU, TCU, Houston, Tulane etc.
-
There was a thread that reported on his play in a pickup game, but as far as where or when he will verbal I have no idea.
-
No memphis was in the Metro before Great Midwest. That conference had Florida St, Virginia Tech, Cincy, L'Ville, S. Miss, Tulane, and South Carolina. A southern conference but a step up competition wise from what CUSA would be after the non FB 4 and Cincy and L'Ville split.
-
Memphis is screwed. They will have to settle for being king of the NASCAR conference.
-
Usually 3, sometimes 4.
-
I am pretty sure the Eastern corridor does not refer to just the East coast but is sort of a line from Boston to NYC To Philly To DC. In that case going into a midwestern southern state is kind of a stretch, but I think that is a convenient excuse for not telling memphis that their football team stinks.
For the life of me I can't see how the BE would not want Cincy. Cincy is a middling major conference is a national power and consistent championship contender, put them in a real power conference, they could easily rival the Dukes and Kansas' as the best bball team year in year out in the nation. And their football team wins, just nobody watches it. How can you blame them, this city is home to the bengals. Still football exposure would be greatly enhanced by playing in the BE. I don't know, but to me Cincy is the best bball team in the BE and top half in football, how do they not get an invite?
-
I would be happy if the A-10 dropped Duquesne, Fordham, or LaSalle, but Richmond is worth keeping. Thay have a decent history and have soem of the biggest NCAA tourney upsets in history.
-
Good Luck to marque in whatever endeavor he chooses.
If anything this is good news for us as ESPN2 regularly has NBDL games on weekday afternoons, we will be able to see Marque play. I will be setting my VCR Timer for that.

CentFLBilliken - Here is an excerpt from Dan Ceasar's sports media collumn in the Post --
McKernan began one of his segments by citing the lead headline on the Web site of Fox Sports, which said "MARTZ THE MORON" above a story about the game. Savard, who had done the radio broadcast but had returned to St. Louis to anchor the "Sports Sunday" show, fired back in what some saw as a shot at McKernan.
"On this show let's be careful on how many Web sites we quote, and particularly irresponsible Web sites," Savard told McKernan on the air. "Because calling somebody a moron is in no way journalism. It's irresponsible. And I think guys who write those headlines are weasels and don't have to be held accountable and answer to coaches."
Then he put McKernan on the spot, asking him, "Am I right?"
McKernan, who looked surprised, said "I suppose so. It was a prominent Web site and I was surprised to see it in as big a headline as it was." (Looked surprised is an understatement, Mckernan's eyes bugged out like a cartoon characters, and he stammered his way through the rest of the report)
JMolina I did think it was a poor move by Savard, but it was stupid of McKernan to put it in his report as well. Both of them were thoroughly embarrassed by the situation and since I don't really care for either of them I took some enoyment out of their obvious public gaffe. I don't know either of them personally but from listening to frank's show on a daily basis and seeing Savard host shows on TV I think they both are unproffessional buffoons.
-
My only beef with Tiger Tim is refuses to even discuss Billiken basketball, he will deny its existence if Frank isn't there. He also razzes Frank about his love for SLU.
I loved seeing McKernan getting B****slapped on the air by his boss Savard on channel 4 a couple weeks ago. Did anyone else see that? It was priceless. Thicks should call up Channel 4 and geta recording of it and post it on the site.

I really loved Grant, he was a heckuva player. I remember watching the game on TV that he got hurt in. No doubt in my mind he would have rivaled Claggs for the best player on those teams and may have taken us a little farther in the tourney. Would have liked to see him lineup next to Dobbs on the frontline.
-
I wonder if SLU even offers his major? I think we have some engineering programs but Randall Falker was a guy who never considered SLU because of our lack of a certain engineering program. SIU has a top engineering school and I assume Stanford has a good one as well.

Lidell is better. Hands down, better ballhandler, better defender, better distributor. Price may have him on outside shooting but they are both pretty good. Liddell has fallen off the radar but Bob Gibbons said he was top 50 caliber in 04 class, Price is about 75.

I had to get this stuff off my chest.
Mizzou is on the verge of collapse and no one is talking about it. Meanwhile SLU gets an invite to a top conference but the only thing we hear about it (especially from Frank and Bob) is that we should just give up and join the Valley!!!!!!
It is appalling to me. Billiken Bob was on the throwdown with Bernie and Earl tonite and he again went on and on about how SLU should go to the Valley. Why would the team's announcer the voice of the Billikens want the program to be downgraded????? I don't understand this, you would never hear Sundvold or the skinhead say Mizzou should join the mountain west or something. I like Bob as an announcer but he is making an azz out of himself on this issue, I am pretty close to calling for his firing. And this whole valley thing, is made up by the media, no valley people or SLU people have mentioned this scenario, in fact everything points that this would not happen in a million years. The media just made up thsi story, and I have no idea why. To me it just puts SLU in a bad light. Then again maybe that is the point.
