  1. Not sure what Levick was misled about, but he's not the first one to tell me that. Rick believed that the new conference would have (and I've forgotten them all so I might make some of this up): Providence, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Villanova, Georgetown, DePaul, Marquette, Notre Dame, Dayton/Xavier, and SLU. He didn't give a timeline for when this might happen. He thought the 10th bid would be a "lottery pick" of sorts and that's why SLU needs to put itself in the best position to claim that spot (having 2.15 million TV sets here and no other D-1 team helps).

Personally, I don't think the "East Coast" presence does us any good. Majerus has made it clear he is recruiting in the Midwest and, in terms of families/fans/alums being able to travel, I don't think the "New Big East" would really help SLU, but lots of good Catholic/Jesuit play in there. I also believe the level of play would be better among those teams than what we're seeing in the A10 (and not just in basketball).

I'd like to see SLU, Missouri, SIU, Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Louisville, Memphis, and perhaps Oklahoma State make a Midwest conference, but we all know that will never happen.

Rick is recruiting the midwest. Midwest Australia?
  2. Probably about 55-60, if I had to guess. Largest crowd yet for his Q&As this year.

A lot of us *****[me included] about Rick's lack of access, but this is cool. I know it's been said before but this years blue crew is the best yet, and gatherings like this can only help but energize the crew.
  3. In terms of success after leaving SLU, which I think is the context of the "ranking," wouldn't the third one have to be Larry Hughes?

All-America teams still have five players each.

I can't give it to Larry for only 1 year. Dick B was before my time. Harry Rodgers gets my vote.
  4. I think his GPA is fine. The problem is you have to have 4 years of English classes. 1 of Cody's 4 was a pass/fail and the NCAA is unwilling to accept that class.

I agree that if the NCAA had counted that class as an F for GPA purposes it wouldn't have killed his GPA. With 16 core courses, the difference between a C and an F would be 0.125 points. I have a hard time believing that he was at 2.125 and by counting it as an F, he is now at 2.0 (I know he would have to be in that range based on the 1010 SAT requirement). Rather, I think the NCAA said, "we aren't counting that class at all, therefore you don't have 16 credits. As a compromise we will let you in if you get a 1010. We realize that this is above and beyond what you are required to do based on your GPA, but since you don't have 16 core courses, its what must be done."

So, to your original question, yes I believe that "because the one class was a pass fail the ncaa said to treat his entire transcript as 2.0"

I have no idea what the kid's GPA is, but I do know that Rick has said he is a bright kid and a good student. Either Majerus is blowing smoke or the kid has a GPA higher than 2.
  5. I noticed that in the print version of today's Post SLU got top billing over Mizzou and Illinois. Pujols got all of page 1, but we got top billing in the college hoops section. I'm pointing this out because there are a couple of conspiracy theorists on here who constantly claim there is some anti-SLU bias at the Post, complaing that our beat writer isn't a "fan", etc. Of course no one typically comments when the coverage goes our way. Let's keep it rolling with some more wins!

How can they put Pujols ahead of the Bills? Whats wrong with those people?
  6. while i am excited about the obvious potential of this roster, i will save my 09-10 crow meal for after the siu game. at that point we will have played iowa state, northwestern/notre dame, georgia and siu in succession in a matter of 9 days. if this team weathers that with say one or no loss(es), then i will really get excited about the now instead of the when.

i will say i have been very please with some of the developments in just a matter of a few days. salecich's defense has improved considerably, cassity's offensive approach is a 180 degree turn, mitchell came out as a distributor instead of an allen iverson wanna be yesterday, which imo is an improvement for the team even though he has the talent to be both, remenkun keeps narrowing the gap in performance between him and willie/conklin, femi has changed his offensive focus, etc. to be able to make those advancements in a matter of games instead of seasons is actually very exciting regardless of the level of opponents.

the one thing i dont think we have seen yet and i am afraid to say might now show up until next year is the true backup for mitchell. jordan seems to have the physical makeup and ball skills for it, and salecich might have the mindset and savvy for it but not the ball skills (besides, why would we want to take that shooting mindset away), but the truth is the team seems to come down quite a bit when mitchell leaves the game.

I don't think Jordon's handle is that good. I think Rick knows this and wants him to shoot more.He said something to that effect on the postgame show.
  7. No, it's not normal, except maybe in grade school to have the inbounder bust up the middle and the receiver throw it back to him. Hell, that doesn't work with 6-8th grade girls. How hard is that to take away?

Did they throw the same press all day or did they change it up? Was it a straight up m2m or did they trap?

Some people on here are acting like a D1 full court press can be broken with grade school techniques. Sorry, it's just not that easy. If it was, nobody would do it, why would they, they'd never get a steal and they'd give up many easy buckets on the other end.

Does anyone really think you can just call a time out, go over how to beat a press and Voila, it's done? They aren't robots your playing against. Again, if that was the answer, why would any team ever press?

Rick said in the press interview that they had not worked on the press.Seemed surprised that KSU employed one. He said they just hadn't had enough practice time to work on defeating it. I thought the problem was simple, throw over the top and attack the rim. Willie or Conklin both appeared open on the wings but we rarely threw it to them. KSU's trap was in the middle of the floor not on the wings. I'm a firm believer that you go over the top and create a fast break. If you are suceed they will call off the press. Make them pay.
  8. Gordo took a shot at SLU and Majerus because he doesn't like him. This is the case with almost all of the local media. The obvious reason they don't like him is he doesn't give them the time and access they want. Killcoyne and Gould took an amusing shot at the Bills on radio this morning. Something like they had to watch the Nebraska game to find out who's on the team. They also took a shot at the Post for not having the Bills on the front page of the sports. Rick could certainly improve his good will with the media if he would just allow the press to come to a practice, bring their film crew and give them 30 seconds of news time. If I was SLU's SID I would plead with May to make this happen. If it doesn't happen the press will take shots whenever they can.

  9. Thought it was nice that, when the students realized Joe Buck was in the house and started chanting his name, he acknowledged them and gave the students a nice wave. I'm pretty sure he didn't want to be noticed and approached, so I think it was a nice gesture on his part.

There was Missouri Hall of Fame dinner last night. I'm surprised Joe was at our game and not the dinner. Jack Buck was one of the inductees.
  10. Was thinking the key to the upcoming season will be where the scoring will come after KM and WR. We need some other options to keep the opponents D from doubling one of those two.

Question #1. Who will be the #3 and 4 scorers for the season for our Bills?

Question #2. Who will be the top two scorers for the season from the new players on the squad for this year. I would include FJ as a new player for this exercise.

Sign Guy, maybe you could save the results of this for review at the end of the year, just for chuckles!

    mhg

I'll try. #1 Christian and Conklin. #2 Christian and Jordon.
  11. hell the dam ref stood right in front of me every possession. i asked him to move and i think he wanted a bribe. j/k however it was a good vantage point to evaluate the baby blues during those timeout routines. wow.

actually though, i am glad those arent my normal seats.

Don't degrade those young women by calling them the baby blues.
  12. Couldn't they sign him to a financial aid agreement until he is cleared? I thought the problem for him was possibly wasting a year of eligability if the NCAA can get him cleared.....

Your talking about a guy who according to Rick could sign a pro contact for 100K. Asking him to sign a financial aid contract seems to me to be a stretch. If he doesn't get cleared he'll turn pro.
  13. One more thing. I believe SLU does have an African American Studies program. I'm not sure if it's an official major, but there is at least a certification program.

Why would you lump African American Studies in with Phys Ed and Parks & Rec?

You just hit one of my pet peeves. Physican Education is a legitimate major. We don't have to equate PE with basket weaving and Political Science.
