  1. -looking at the replay of that i am not sure contact was made, if it was it would not leave a mark, which i guess is why no ejection

-however, i am glad the ref double fouled as any attempt to clean up the game is worthwhile imo

It happened right in front of me. Brian did say something but was not in the guys face and was certainly restrained. The Fordham guy did head butt him and did make contact, but probably would not have broken an egg. Without knowing what Brian said I don't think he deserved a T.
  2. It's not his A10 statements as if it's a few. It's constant, non stop jibberish. He needs to stop. I didn't say call the AD to have him fired, but maybe if the fans speak up RM will realize it's enough. I don't consider it nitpicking. It's a big issue.

For what it's worth at the last Billiken Club meeting I spoke with May about the A-10. I told him I thought it was far superior to the MVC and would help us when and if a new confrence was formed. He said he agreed with me and said we were going nowhere. That said he needs to tell Majereus to keep his coments private, Rick can and will believe anything he wants but it doesn't do anybody good for him to blast the A-10.
  3. In answer to roy ---- the A10 will NEVER be big time. Not if that is how you measure it. Gonzaga ans Butler have had great runs and no one is clamoring to get them on tv in prime time like you always see Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, North Carolina, Michigan State, Ohio State, Kentucky, Louisville and some of the main others. Heck, even after what Calipari did the past two or three years at Memphis, even with a recent history there of Larry Keynon, Larry Finch, Keith Lee and others, you don't see Memphis stepping out of the regionality that is CUSA and on to the national stage all the time. I'll see Florida vs. Virginia Tech a lot more times before I see Butler vs. Creighton. Unless its a "gimmick" game ---- as is the whole Bracket Buster idea that happens evry February.

If that is the measure, expect failure.

I'd be very happy to be on prime TV as much as the Zag's or Butler.
  4. Uh... oh... are chartered flights gonna be the next ice cream cone scandal? For those of you too young to remember supposedly Spoon got miffed because he had to pay for his own dairy queen with sprinkles.

I thought the rational of charter flights was to keep kids in class. Fly out late, fly back after the game. If I understood Porter correctly they were staying east flying to Charlette this afternoon. That doesn't sould like a ideal charter situation.
  5. Ramsey and Porter Moser talked about this after the game. Smith already played some 3 Saturday and even more last night. He's got a lot to work on, but the fact that they are giving him minutes at the 3 already, clearly shows that he has a future there.

All of a sudden our depth has become unbelievable for a Billiken team and will be even stronger next year. I know Anderson at Missouri plays 12 with his hectic style, but can RM keep everybody happy with our more deliberate style? This is a good problem as long as the coaches can keep egos in check. Porter went out of his way on the post game show to praise Brian for his cheerleading as his time has been cut. Something to watch.
  6. you are right. i wasnt there. i was watching high school basketball saw 6 games last night between various levels of belleville west vs ofallon as annually they bring all their high school teams to one school for one night and play for about 6 hours straight. just thought that would be more entertaining that a rundown on a look back at the days of andre miller as well.

btw, ot, roosevelt jones of ofallon has indeed grown up. but never saw a d-1 guard besides his body. didnt dribble more than two dribbles at a time and didnt shoot a shot (besides a ton of free throws) over 6 feet the entire night. that said, scored 27 points as a power forward for ofallon last night to carry his ofallon teamates. it would be interesting to see him in an actual guard position to see what he could do. but he never left the paint the entire night. his very athletic and slightly taller teamate charles joy had a couple of thunder dunks on the night.

also saw what is reputed to be a shimmy recruit in process, erica mccaster lightening fast guard for the west team score 20 to beat ofallon. erica is a junior and went over 1,000 career points last night for the lady maroons.

I was there and I thought Rick was very good with the kids. They seemed very engaged to what he was saying. All I saw was smiles and laughs. As far as CE was concerned, I felt he was trying to take pressure off him to become the great savior.
  7. considering the many discussions i have had the last few weeks with both billiken fans and casual fans, i know that MANY have unrealistic expectations. heck this message board is comprised of the hardest core fans the program has and even then we get posts every day more or less putting ellis in the savior position. that really amazes me considering again, we are supposed to be the most knowing. if many of us are preaching it, you can bet the casual fans are listening.

the good news is that i doubt rickma will put ellis in a losing situation that exposes him in the worse light. i would bet ellis makes a cameo appearance at most for quite awhile. think about john smith, who i felt by the summer buzz was likely our second best recruit. only recently has rickma been putting him in the game more. i.e. he proved in practice he was beginning to be able to fit the program and play at a level to deserve minutes. even with his obviously explosively and almost freakish athleticism and lanky basketball ideal build. so for ellis, in rick i trust.

Rick said a lot of good things about John Smith last night. He said John has worked very hard to develop his shot. He said John had a large upside if he continues to work hard.
  8. This was the first night for any of the servers. Ours said they would be having a tasting session tomorrow night to get to know the menu. The system is so new, that we were given an old time credit card sheet with a carbon. They seemed to want to go out of their way to provide good service. I think they need a little time to get used to the new surroundings.

When I goy my bill it didn't include my bar bill. I pointed that out and my server said they were having trouble but not to worry about it. What a deal.
  9. I think you're right, they probably are in the best shape of their lives. I also know, if you lose your legs, you lose your shot. RM admits he'd rather practice than play games. In normal times, between court time, film room work, lifting weights, etc. the load is challenging, add the extra time spent on the court for the holiday, and it makes me wonder.

As I said in another post "Christmas is tough on kids."
  10. they practiced in bowling green from thursday to saturday. i am wondering if rickma is in his annual go nuts and practice for 27 hours a day mode again that he does every xmas break. the kids probably need to get back to classes and studying so they can get some rest.

I think this is a legitimate concern. Christmas break is always hard on players.
  11. I expect 3 conference road wins. Using Sagarin's predictor for future conference away games, the Bills have a cumulative 38% chance of winning (varying from a 22% chance at Dayton to a 54% chance at UMass*) their 8 conference away games. So the "objective expectation" for conference road games is 3 wins. Predicting 2 conference wins does make the probability of being right much greater. The Bills will likely be slight favorites with UMass and possibly St. Joe's.

*I will be in attendance so that goes up to at least 54.1%.

So you are telling me I'd make a pretty good gambler. No takers yet.
  12. when justin johnson had his "went to mars" stretch the other night where he had two really bad three point attempts that missed badly and had three turnovers on passes that made you say, "wtf", and eastern had closed the gap, i doubt i was the only one in the arena that was glad to see cassity come back in the game and replace him so he could get his bearings straight again.

imo, cassity is the second best guard we got. that might not be a good thing, but salecich, john and jordan are far more inconsistent and negatively dangerous than cassity. that said, i see salecich, john and jordan all with more potential down the road than cassity. until cassity steps up and gets a little of that jordan swagger, he will be a role player at best. tough decision on how to spend those minutes if i was rickma.

Hey Roy I didn'y know Justin Johnson still played for us. He must be on the 8 year plan,
  13. what appears is going to be the make or break of the season for the billikens to exceed expectations is to win some conference road games.

realtime rpi has us losing every single conference road game and finishing 6-10 in the a-10. if we could win 2 of those road games and finish 8-8 it would probably put us at about 18 wins and imo a good season that exceeded expectations.

more than that probably puts us on at minimum nit radar and depending on the configuration of our conference losses and where we end up in the conference (i.e. 10-6 and tied for 4th or 5th) probably the ncaa.

to be honest unless a couple more players step up their play besides reed and mitchell, i tend to think realtime rpi is pretty close to what is going to play out, but i have to admit that this team has me intrigued and i can see better possibly happening.

I can't tell you where but I have $20 that says we will win at least 2 confrence road games.
  14. Yeah, I think he's more on the Bears radar than he is SLU's radar due to academics. I also don't know the needs/scholarship availabilities of SLU for that class, which always plays a role. the Bears will have up to 7 scholarships for that class, and will be in the market for wing players such as McLemore.

That sort of stuff plays a large role in recruiting, and with SLU's academic standards being higher than Missouri State's, I side with Nate on this one.

I don't know anything about this kid but Welston's academics are bad. I would be very surprized if this kid could qualify for any D1 school. I think you are looking JC at best. If kids from Vashon have trouble qualifying I don't think a kid from Welston has much of a chance.
  15. Smith suffers from being a slight build but the weight room could take of that-you can't teach speed

and he and Willie have the fastest put backs and great shot blocking eye hand coordination; I was really happy to see Femi John get that first steal of the game-that should be a big part of his game;but, I wish he would recognize the defender has beat him to the spot when he is driving in-every game he gets at least one charging penalty-how long are the coaches going to let him do that?

he either needs to be thinking about a pass, beat his defender to the opening, or pull up for a jumper

and from that distance he has looked good. Smith, though had his best game so far- I hope he keeps improving,

From my angle it looked like a terrible call. No way did I feel the defender was set.
  16. i agree with that. but in the interest of giving the kid his possible only college highlight, why couldnt ricky raymond majerus tell him, "go ahead and shoot it"? that said, there were a couple of points in that last minute where his teamates could have looked to give him the ball when the shot clock was running down and they didnt make any effort to give the kid the shot. that was very disappointing as well.

At the end of the game when he was doing his shake and bake Rick got a big smile on. I thought he might say shoot, but he didn't.
  17. I think you should call him "Coach Knight".

I have always been a Coach Knight hater. I thought he was a bully who treated his players like ###### and coached through intimidation. That said I really like him on ESPN. His basketball knowledge is unsurpassed, but he keeps it simple enough to follow and doesn't use terms like their running a UCLA cut.I really liked him the last couple of weeks when he threw Callipari and Kentucky under the bus. I thought he might get in trouble with ESPN for getting on the establishment, but he and Musberger had a long conversation during one of the games they were doing. Besides Callipari he got on the NCAA for their 1 and done policy. Good stuff.
  18. My guess is that when Fr. Biondi is replaced, Rich will then come back - but not until then. If correct, Fr. Biondi has been at SLU since 1987 - 22 years - and that the Jesuits will probably rotate him soon.

Reminds me abit of Ozzie Smith who is still waiting for Tony LaRusa to leave. :)

I think you are probably right.
