  1. Larry has been such a disappointment as a pro. Gone from team to team because of injuries and lackadaisical play. Now he nothing more than cap space. He'll probably be shipped to the Rockets in the next couple days in the McGrady trade. That will be his 7th team in 11 years in the league. He's played 700 games in the league but only 150 of those did he play hard.

Larry just bought a 6.1 million dollar house in St. Louis County. He did all right for himself.
  2. I know in the past when the MVC had a number of teams with good RPI's that some on this board had suggested that they had figured out how to work the system and schedule so that many of their teams would have respectable RPI's. Has the A10 done the same thing? I'm being serious here. How do you know if we(the A10) or they(MVC) have teams worthy of the high RPI rankings or if they've just "figured" it out.

    NO.
  3. Anything is possible, but that cry seems unlikely any time soon, with Gonzaga still ruling the roost. I was at the Gonzaga at SMC game earlier in the season. While it was a good game, Gonzaga seemed pretty much in control throughout- on St. Mary's home court. Then the Zags took it to SMC last Thursday night in The Kennel in Spokane.

Without Patty Mills, SMC is good, but doesn't seem as good as last year's team. Gonzaga has reloaded.

Gonzaga is not invinceable, as the Zags were upset at USF. The Zags also were all but beaten at Santa Clara, but rallied late to take that one.

The WCC Tournament is at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, a neutral floor, for the second straight year.

The Orleans Arena is where the Billikens played in the Christmas tournament last year. Not a bad building.
  4. Majerus is pointing out the insane travel issues for possibly several reasons.

One, he wants charter flights back as had been promised, for the good of the student athletes.

Two, he also really wants to go the The MVC, for the good of the student athletes.

Three, he is fed up and picking a fight so he can justifiably go somewhere else now that he has credibility rebuilding SLU, 3 yrs.

His discussions with the press on these matters are well done in that he is not taking on Biondi / May straight up.

The press and The Billiken Club members / billiikens.com posters "piling on" RM hurts everyone.

I can understand the press; they are mostly MU lovers and always trying to stir things up.

But I cannot understand the Billiken Club members and season ticket holders sticking it to RM, and going to the AD about him.

What is it that you want? He is our only hope to go to the next level.

I have made a major sacrifice, Majerus supported Obama, and before that, Kerry. Atrocius. Hideous. Horrific.

He is a basketball coach, one of the best.

The issue is still that RM was promised charter flights for this east coast league adventure, and charter flights were pulled.

Majerus and the team are the ones who have been wronged.

I will be in sec 115 Saturday, watching our fine young team and supporting Majerus.

You Majerus haters / A-10 disciples-devotees-partisans go ahead, keep on whining, I guess you think you are important.

I keep asking this question and no one with any knowledge gives me an answer. Do we know that charter flights were pulled?????
  5. The NIT is actually tough to get into now due to the fact they give auto bids to low-major teams that win their conference in the regular season but do not win their conference tournaments.

That being said, I think that if we get to 20 wins and provided that we beat at least three of the Dayton, URI, X, and Temple games we will have a shot, but we will probably need more.

Having Majerus as our coach definitely is a plus as he is marketable in and of himself

    29-8
  6. Thicks, you jumped on me in another thread and claimed I "hijacked" it as well. What is your deal with me?? I did not jump all over Roy. In fact I began my post by complimenting his passion for Billiken basketball.

Come on Thicks, your ruining a good thread.
  7. It is not just the weather, as many of you frame it. That is just an additional negative factor.

Because of commerical flights limitations, they generally have to leave early and stay late.

Then, in this case, they stayed in Philly after Saturday's game rather than fly home one day and turn around and leave the same night or the next morning. Fly home Sunday, then leave again Monday morning? With a charter they fly home Sat pm, leave Monday after classes pm.

The issue is Biondi reneged on the promise for charter flights.

We keep saying Biondi reneged. Do we really know that this is true? Billikan said several weeks ago that this wasn't necessarily so.
  8. The problem with this is that he wants to be in the town 2 days before the game so it does not matter how many flights there are in or out the same number of days of class would still be lost.

I also don't understand the 2 day thing. I don't know of anyone else doing this.
  9. I'd much rather have Rick Majerus as our coach for the next five years and play in the MVC than play in the A-10 and take our chances with someone else...even Moser.

I think you just proposed a good question. I'm not sure how I would answer it. I really think a move to the MVC would be a huge mistake for the long term potential of our program, but Rick sure has us moving in the right direction.
  10. I believe one of the SIU/MoState games will be at home again next year. Adm does not want to play both home/away each year.

Also, don't be surprised if we play one of the Busch Beer Braggin' Rights Game next year, and I don't mean the hoosiers of the hinterland. Apparently the team from the state east of us doesn't seem to mind playing in St Louis twice in one year.

    mhg

Would this be our game or a Scottrade game?
  11. I think next years schedule will be interesting. Playing SIU and MO State on the road will be tough but a chance to build a solid foundation in terms of RPI.

However, I've been to Carbondale the last two visits and watched some ugly basketball.

Side note for Roy...I think we sat together for the last SIU game. Did you go to the game with big Ed?

I hate to say this but I think Roy will become president of the Rick M fan club before we win a game in Carbondale. Maybe Hughes will come back and use up his eligibilty.
  12. Saying that we're the youngest team in D1, while being reality, is an excuse for our performances (or specific things that happen during the game). A valid excuse perhaps, but an excuse nonetheless. I'd rather take a comparative approach to see if we're actually improving or regressing.

    With that said:

KM: Regressed from the beginning of the season. Trying to do too much. Too much shot-taker and not enough playmaker.

JJ: Regressed slightly. Still gets abused defensively and not getting as many shots. I like JJ, I just wish he wouldn't get killed on the crossover so much.

CS: Regressed. A black hole offensively, but his defense has improved. If he ever finds that shot...

KC: Improved. Still has the tough turnover here and there, but shot has improved and overall game has improved.

JS: Big improvement. Hope he can start making some 8-10 foot jumpers, but keep on keepin' on Mr. Smif.

WR: Regressed. Tentative. Turnover prone. No fire. Also, having tough time since the other teams are focusing on him more.

CR: Regressed. Was a defensive factor early on, but now seems to be a non-factor.

BC: Regressed. FT's! Missing short shots. Injury seems to be hampering him.

RM: Regressed. An inspired (if not entirely successful) team early on has looked lethargic lately. He was out coached by Hobbs! Perhaps the recent distractions (at least partially of his own doing) have hurt his focus.

    FJ: N/A

    JR: N/A

    PE: N/A

    CE: N/A

    DY: N/A

Team: Neutral to slightly Regressed. CE's arrival plus JS and KC's improvement has been offset by KM, WR, BC and CS's decreased effectiveness. Also, as teams have become more familiar with WR, they are forcing other SLU players to make an impact. The lack of a true SG is killing us. We're a perimeter team where our PG is forcing shots because of the lack of outside threats. Hopefully, CE's integration provides us the outside pop (we have evidence of that), which might open up the inside game for WR. I hope WR finds his fire. Also, FJ and JR being out is killing our depth. Hope they both get healthy.

DISCLAIMER: I'm still a Bills fan even though I don't see things as being entirely rosey right now. I have man-love for all the players on this team and think RM is building quite the foundation. I'm just trying to give an objective look at things.

This is not a criticism of you Toy but a criticism of this whole board. When we win a couple of games everybody gets upbeat and talks about going to the tourney. If we lose a couple of games, whoa is me, this team will never win another game and everyone sucks. We all need to calm down.
  13. -i found two things of interest....

-from bernie's bits..."I'm not sure what's going on with St. Louis U. basketball coack Rick Majerus and his radio show, his media relations, or his apparent beef with the SLU administration over the way the team travels. But I do know this: Majerus has establisehd a promising foundation at SLU. The Billikens have some fine young players. Cody Ellis is going to be something special. Attractive recruits are on the way. The young Billikens are in position for a breakthrough season in 2010-2011. I also know this: Coach Majerus is absolutely dedicated to academic integrity. He wants his players to succeed in the classroom. And his sincerity in this area is beyond reproach."

-compared to our latest press, this is rosy

-from TT's game day article..."Eckerle has a couple of biology classes to take to finish out his undergraduate degree and then he's going to start working on a certificate in business administration since even he can't juggle both college basketball and medical school at the same time. He'll start medical school once his playing days are over."

-good luck to PE, he seems like a great kid

-if i had to guess he has his bball scholly for one more season

I'm pretty sure Rick is on record saying Paul will not have an athletic scholarship. Now if you lost a bunch of people that might not be the case.
  14. I was at a high school game last night at Waterloo Gibault and 9 separate people came up to me to discuss the billikens. i would say that all 9 are not necessarily billiken fans but casual fans of sports. all 9 wanted to talk about nothing but majerus. "what the hell is going on with majerus?" or "is he really going to be the depaul coach?" or "why would he quit his radio show?" everyone asked, "dont you think majerus is right about this MVC thing?" the program is getting nothing good out of this. and my night of trying to watch a very good regional rivalry game was pretty much ruined by having to explain our block headed coach.

clock is right about one thing in particular (clock is right about a lot of things), saint louis university is not doing themselves any favors by remaining quiet. in particular on the MVC vs the A-10 issue. SLU should put out a report that shows all the advantages of being in the A-10 to the public so it is finally obvious to all.

Roy why do you have to skrew up a good post by calling our coach a block head?
