  1. unless they are total busts, loe for sure and at least one of the chicago kids will play. to not play would be a huge miss in recruiting as rickma and the asst's have not once hinted any of the three need to be redshirted or will need time to adjust to the college level. hell, he has stated numerous times that mccall is better than mitchell as a freshman. that's saying something.

my guess is that at least one returning guard and one returning forward will see their minutes drop drastically and be pushed towards the ever revolving door. based on the events of the last few seasons, i would guess that eckerle, salecich, remekun, and conklin have likely been given the now or never speech already.

and with this kind of depth, i am still scratching my head over signing jett. the guy must be good as the roster screams "we dont have the minutes" for him.

it will be interesting to see how this group of student athletes deals with playing time.

I agree with your thoughts on Jett. It doesn't make much sense unless he is going to be part of the rotation.
  2. So Duke is in a category that is bettter than UNC, Kansas, and UCLA (not to mention...Duke)?

Sorry, I just don't think this one is that big of a deal to get. We could have probably gotten this game many times over the years.

I understand that RM is having trouble getting teams to play us. Short of winning the game do you think this will help us land better opponents at Chaifetz? Losing the game by 1 would probably make it harder than losing by 35! ;)

Footsie you are also forgetting the came is on CBS. When is the last time you were on CBS?
  3. What I said was that any sound thinking person not that I was the only sound thinking person. You are entitled to your opinion as I am mine. This game will create a buzz for one night and then it will be over unless we beat them and smart money won't be on us.

So let me get this straight. Are you saying that the majority of this thread that feels this is a good game is not sound thinking? Cheese you are out numbered on this one,but then again we must not be sound thinking.
  4. Gee, I am sure that is what the Delta State coach is saying right now too his fans and team also. RM said he would play any team but he was not probably expecting to be fodder only for the other team. Look, nobody would be happier if we went down there and won but the odds are against us beating the #1 team in the nation at their place. Come dance time, nobody on the selection committee is going to remember that we lost to Duke away by 15 only that we lost to Duke. I think we will have a good team next year and I am excited about the season but I would rather have a road win over a decent D1 team then a meaningless loss to Duke. Some of you can be Polyanna but sound thinking people know that this is not a great deal for us. Yes we are on national TV, yes our SOS will get a bump, but our RPI will not benefit and we will not gain any lasting benefit from it. I will watch and root for the Bills as hard as anyone and scream at my TV and the refs who will robbing us but I am sorry, a betting man does not see how this is that big of help for us. Our home schedule is unchanged which many have complained is too weak and our won lost record will reflect a loss.

Gee Cheese it's good to know that your the only sound thinking person on this board. The buzz this game will create in St. Louis is worth playing the game alone.I think you are totally wrong.
  5. Honestly, I not sure why everybody is so excited. We just signed a deal to be a buy game and probably get our brains beat in on national TV. When we went down there the last time we at least got a game with them here. Unless we beat them our RPI is not going to get a big bump - our SOS will - so I guess there is something positive there. I hope this not what PDiddy was talking about - I was hoping for a two game contract with a home and home.

CBS TV against a top 5 team. We gave North Carolina all they could handle in the Deam Dome. You never know. I'm pumped.
  6. Fr. Biondi is certainly perplexing. Frankly, he fired my favorite coach (Grawer) but something had to be done. Losing the Beaumont kid (Upchurch) and forcing Grawer to take chances with questionable kids led to his demise. Fr. Biondi then hired Yow and Spoon, promised to be a Top 50 program, had us in the Great Midwest but then stopped supporting the program. Going cheap with Spoon, hiring Woolard, not upgrading the facilities at all during Romar and Brad's tenure was deplorable. Chaifetz is great but anywhere from 10 to 20 years too late. What might have been.....

Now, Fr. Biondi finally builds Chaifetz, hires RM and agrees to his demands. Then, we see the same regression start. Cutting back of charter flights, no-name AD hire... Commitment means you not only start but that you follow through. I question the follow through part. Hope I am wrong.

This is a good post. One has to wonder how much longer Biondi will be at SLU. While he has done many great things in the infastructure area I think the university might be better off without him. He is continually fighting with the faculty, the endowment has declined.[yes I know the markets have tanked but where are the new contributions] He is always getting in trouble with the bishop.[to me thats a good thing] You just wonder when he might retire.
  7. I think the player's current team can go an additional year on their max contract offer, so where Miami and everyone else could offer LeBron 5 years Cleveland could offer a 6th year. I am also under the impression that had he stayed in Cleveland he would have also been able to have a higher raise rate each season (something like 10.5% compared to 8%). I may be wrong on some of this, but this is what I thought I heard while working from home with SportsCenter on the other day.

According to the Wall Street Journal the Heat will pay Lebron $19.2 million per season for 5 years. Cleveland could have paid him $20.8 million per season for 6 years.
  8. This is great. Does anyone know how they are doing profit wise? And if they are making money where does the revenue go? Does it stay within the arena's finances? Does it flow directly to the endowment?

My guess is that the universities cut in this is pretty fixed. Global Spectrum probably guarantees x amount of dollars and maybe a small percentage of ticket sales and the rest they keep. I think the University has little to do with what goes on in the building.
  9. Saw your comment in the Post that Dooley's was rumored to be going into the John Town Hall location . Tell me it's true. Since I live in the area that would be awsome. I always felt their burger was as good as anybody in town. Good fries also.

  10. America's game, baseball, makes no pretense about requiring kids to go to college; football and basketball should let anyone play

who is good enough to make the team: I haven't watched an NBA game on TV or in person in 20 years but I am an avid SLU

basketball fan. I think campuses would be more cohesive if some people skipped the experience.

I believe in baseball if you go to college you have to stay at least 2 years. That's an improvement.
  11. Yow named new AD at NC State

    Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina State has chosen Maryland's Debbie Yow as its new athletic director.

Yow spent the past 16 years with the Terrapins, leading an athletic department that won more than 20 NCAA championships. She replaces Lee Fowler, who resigned in May and ends a 10-year tenure with the Wolfpack next week.

Yow has a strong tie to North Carolina State. The North Carolina native is the younger sister of Kay Yow, the Hall of Fame women's basketball coach who spent more than three decades with the Wolfpack before her death in January 2009 following a long fight against cancer.

Yow, 58, had told The Associated Press Thursday night that she planned to travel to Raleigh to meet with the search committee, though she wouldn't say whether she had been offered or accepted the job. The school's board of trustees approved a contract for Yow on Friday morning, said Keith Nichols, the school's director of news services.

The school will release details of that contract at a news conference Friday afternoon to formally announce Yow's hiring.

Yow inherits a program that has spent millions on facility upgrades -- most notably in football -- yet has a frustrated fan base with the slow growth of its two highest-profile teams. In football, Fowler hired Tom O'Brien away from Boston College, only to see the Wolfpack reach just one bowl game in his first three seasons.

In men's basketball, Fowler hired former Wolfpack player Sidney Lowe after a monthlong search that missed on top targets John Calipari and Rick Barnes.

Lowe inherited a program that had been to five straight NCAA tournaments, but he has failed to reach the NCAAs as he enters his fifth season, while nearby rivals North Carolina and Duke have won the past two national championships.

One of Fowler's last coaching hires was Kellie Harper as Kay Yow's successor. Harper, who was on the search committee, led the women's basketball team to the NCAA tournament in her first season.

Good,Better,Best. Never let it rest, untill your good becomes your better ,and your better becomes your best.
  12. More than Davis, yes. Harangody is a much better defensive player. He'll have some problems with the Tim Duncans of the world who can fade away or step back and hit jumpers, but on the post he'll be solid. Offensively, and watching that first round shock against Old Dominion in the NCAA Tournament, he's going to need to get involved in the rhythm of the game early or else he's done for. Get him touches early and the Celtics will be ok. I see him spelling Perkins when the big guy gets healthy, but at the start of the season, he's going to log a lot of minutes with Rasheed Wallace retiring and the obvious injury to Kendrick.

I actually think Davis and Harangody are a lot alike. I don't agree that Harangody is a better defensive player. You can't play a 1 man zone in the nba. I do see them fighting for a lot of the same minuets. We will see.
  13. That's entirely erroneous to compare a flake Southern Cal basketball player to a guy who dominated the Big East for three of his four year. But hey, even Adam Morrison has a couple of rings. Do what you have to do, I guess.

Either way, the Glen Davis Experiment is over in Boston. No more drool on the parquet.

I thought big baby did a good job in the playoffs. Pretty good offense for a back up center.
