  1. But its not like he can just re-enroll. There were specific guidelines for him to follow in order for him to re-enroll and I doubt he has been doing those things. I still say this has a 0% chance of happening

I would like to think those guidelines could be worked thru, but knowing SLU I wouldn't bet on it.
  2. I agree. It would be best for Willie's basketball career if he came back to SLU but who knows what him and his family are thinking. They burned a lot of bridges but if what has come out about the process is true then I dont really blame him for not wanting to bend over backwards to re-enroll at SLU.

If Willie wants to play basketball in the near future it is his quickest way back.
  3. When Manning signs we could have a 7' center and a 6'11" pf who start together. As a Billiken fan, that is something I never even dared to dream about. A 7' inside banger and a 6'11" pf who shoots the 3.

I don't think Rick sees Manning being a starter for awhile if ever. I think he was recruited as a backup.
  4. Majerus talked last night about what Corey's going through academically, and how it's affecting his hoops. He also talked about how great...and difficult the academics are at SLU. After the meeting, my friend and I were talking about that and what wasn't said. Corey has lost his entire "brother" support group at SLU - Smith and JJ transferred, and Willie and Kwamain are gone, at least for the semester. What a downer for him. Coaches can't pump you up as much as your friends. Anyway, I conclude that we need to cut him some slack for the time being - I still like his upside.

    Good Post.
  5. Or even likely configurations of the 5 on the floor at any given time. RM was really mixing it up with different lineups in the exhibition games. I'm interested to see how he will distribute our height throughout the 40 minutes of the game (depending on the height of our opponents, of course).

Minutes-wise, I think Conklin is going to get a LOT of minutes, probably around 30, no matter who we are playing. He has a great motor, experience and strength.

I also wonder if RM will take into consideration how dog-tired our guys were last year by the end of the season, and spread out the preseason minutes more this year.

Conklin,Loe and Corey are going to have to stay out of foul trouble to get high minutes.
  6. -mine arrived either friday or saturday

-perhaps just me, but i question the spend on the format of the tickets (if indeed these are more expensive than plain jane scannable tix)

-all i need is the ticket to be scanned to allow me into the arena, i don't need a picture or anything

-if they want to put a picture use the Billiken or a shot of the arena would be my suggestion to avoid having to reprint if the reason on the reprint was players no longer being on the team being on the previous version

-edit - i will have to look at the coupons Box mentions as i did not notice them, perhaps the ADept had partners pay for printing (at least one version)

Come on man. This Board spends half it's time bitching about the Athletic Dept. not doing things in a first class manor. They put together a first class package and people find fault.
  7. I'd completely forgotten that I'm a Bellarmine alumnus. (Or at least I have six hours of credit from there.) Trinity Louisville:Bellarmine::1-8-1-8:SLU. How 'bout my Knights knocking off X? ;)

When I was a kid growing up in Louisville and I got in trouble with my mother, she use to say "Your going to Bellarmine".
  8. random thoughts:

i thought the band was good as usual.

good student show up considering an exhibition game. just a few years back we would have been elated with a student turnout like that for a big conference game.

    guy - sigh

rickma wardrobe - please buy the man something new.

femi - great to see him there supporting the team and it does my heart good to know he was taken care of by saint louis university even though his basketball career is over.

concessions - i thought the popcorn was good.

    now players:

cassity - i thought cassity was the best player in the arena last night. he seemed to do whatever he wanted and i thought stood out above and beyond anyone else. kyle might be on the verge of becoming a star.

salecich - going in the opposite direction. too early to give up, but if he cant make shots.......

conklin - just played hard. played with confidence. played well. that said, he wont get away with the moves and shots he made last night when he plays the likes of xavier. but it is good to see brian come out ready to play.

darryl, dwight, dwayne evans - whoa. nice. this kid is a player. no deer in the headlights look. knows what is going on and his effort without the ball was spectacular. went to the boards hard, played defense. the only thing i saw was a poor shot. probably why they are using him as a pf for now. we saw in year's past though that shot's can be fixed. but doc is right this kid indeed resembles tommie liddell quite a bit. probably the surprise of the freshmen imo.

eckerle - not much can be said about paul. he has come to the season prepared for whatever rickma gives him. just watching him, he is a coach on the floor. doesnt make mistakes. plays his position technically perfect. what he gives up athletically he makes up for with brain and effort. btw, his shot looked fantastic. those saying he shouldnt get time are absolutely wrong. eckerle should play.

remeken - my biggest disappointment for the night. over the back fouls (why isnt a second year player getting position on stretching cardinal players), missed put backs, flat footed on defense. cory, we need you man. come on.

ellis - incredible how much weight he has lost considering he really didnt look heavy before. his defense as rickma inferred last week at fanfest, is bad. lost him man too often, didnt help on a couple of drives. that said, he has the best shot on the team and with his size will get the opportunities. i am sure the summer mono is still being recovered from and plays a big part in his game at this point. ellis will be just fine.

mccall - most inconsistent player of the night. had instances of wow!!! and then periods of what the hell. my guess wasnt coached much in high school on x's and o's and getting the crash course. probably goes to bed at night with his head throbbing. i am betting the wow!! becomes more the norm. a lot to look forward to imo. not sure if he is a point guard. not that he doesnt have the talent to be a point guard, but i think i want him scoring.

jett - second most inconsistent player. had some really nice drives. the one time he beat his man and stopped on the mark and hit a five footer could have easily been a charge had he kept going. very impressive. at the end of the first half though, rickma calls the use it or lose it time out. obviously drew a play up. then jett shoots a three as soon as he touches the ball and rickma was livid. come on jordair. man you gotta like that strong body for a freshman.

loe - only downfall of rob loe is he is physically weak. he was getting beat up by the stritch players all game long. that said, offensively this kid is not bashful. and if ellis is the best shooter on the team, loe might already be the second best. i liked his give me the ball and i will score attitude. loe has monster potential.

while the game wasnt very exciting, it was great to see the players on the floor. i stick by this team will be fine.

I especially agree with your comments on Loe. This guy is a star in the making. It might not be this year but he has that scorers mentality. I don't know who he can guard, but I don't know who can guard him.
  9. There is no doubt that a letter could be written that would not have any legal impact. I know nothing of any details of what is supposed to happen so I can't say what the "board" wanted. I cannot imagine they would insist on a letter that would have an impact on the legal process.

At the Fan Fest Rick said that Kwamain was doing his community service. I seriously doubt he would do community service unless he was planning on returning.
  10. Thanks for the info. If I understood the question, though, is what happened to the hospital sale proceeds? SLU received millions from Tenet. WHat did they do the money. As to gifts and legacies pledged to the hospital, no doubt those left SLU's hands and went with the hospital (and would seem to come back to SLU with any purchase). Will Fr. Biondi come out of this looking like a shrewd businessman? Sell (hospital) high, buy back low. I've always said that Fr. Biondi is a really good "brick & mortar" guy. Friend of the sports program and public relations expert he is not.

Last I heard, SLU's endowment was up to $800 million (depending upon the stock market), right? If so, why couldn't SLU buy a teaching hospital with some of those funds?

If memory serves SLU was given stock in Tenet. Tenet stock took a huge dive. Unless the university sold the stock before the plunge they may not be that far ahead of the game. The purpose of an Endowment fund is to provide income[percentage of assets] to support operations, give scholarships etc. not to buy things. It's not a bank account.
  11. Congratulations, that is awesome. And I mean that sincerely. Unfortunately there are a lot factors that go into buying season tickets. When you work in a job where are constantly working past seven during the months of the basketball it makes going to some games difficult. So as I said I will go to the games that I can make it to, and not spend the money on the games I cant make it to this year. Sorry I'm not as big of a fan as you Billiken Roy, and you can verify with your son that I am a huge SLU fan. PM if you want to know who I am. I'm not questioning anyones dedication toward SLU athletics and find it odd that someone who has no idea who I am would question mine. I'd say 90% of the people on this board truly support SLU hoops, maybe not to the same capacity as others, but to be pegged as fair weather fan because I'm a young alumni that didnt want to shell out the money for season tix this year is a bit harsh.

    You can always change jobs.
  12. You are over-selling WR. It is definitely a blow to the team, but I would hardly say he had great moves down low or was a strong rebounder. And I'm sure you mean projected 1st round draft pick, not #1 pick overall.

I agree with you that his absence will hurt, but like the folks you are criticizing, you go a little overboard.

Not surprisingly, the truth is somewhere between (i) not a big loss and (ii) a devastating blow.

It doesn't do any good to cry over spilled milk but losing Willie is huge. He's the one player we haven't had since AB. In spite of what you say he was a great rebounder and shot blocker. While he always looked like he was walking his down low moves ending up with a slam were great. The only complaints I can see with Willie's game were free throw shooting and stamina. I'm not saying he was more valuable but replacing KM is easier then repacing Willie.
  13. I find it amazing that RM allready has potential replacements in house prior to any dession. they may not be at the same level but still give the team a chance to excell if things go badly and a deep bench if thinks go the right way.

Good planning? Inside knowledge? All bases covered on something over which you have no control?

    Just curious what others think.

I think it's a smart coach who is out recruiting each and every year.
  14. I tthink Jimbo's gonna be real po'd when he finds out you ID'd his lady. As to the topic, I too thought we might have restarted the weekly cheerleader deal. As to Bauman's post, we should take any transfer that makes us a better team, except for JH. And I'm not so sure he's an improvement of anyone we've got. Speaking of JH, I played golf with a KY fan yesterday and he said JH may get some PT if the Turkish kid doesn't show. However, he's pretty confident that Calimari will some how find a way to beat the clearinghouse on this and get the kid's coach to retract his story. Would you bet against it? He** no. All JC has to do is wire this coach a couple of hundred grand and he'll say he was mistaken about the Turk being paid to play. And while the UK fan is all for this kid coming, a one and doner for sure, he said he'd heard this guy can hardly speak English. Gotta figure his ACT's must have been a whole lot higher than CE's, so I'm sure that won't be a problem for the clearinghouse either.

I'll bet against it. The NCAA has a found a new religion. The big boys are no longer exempt. I don't know if it's because Miles Brand has left or what but the big guys are getting hit. See Usc-Tenn-Nc and others.
