  1. There were about 150 people at the meeting. Frankly, not too much

    Information, if any.

Both Crews and Lisa Stone fielded questions. Most revolved around recruiting or the new conference.

Both coaches are pleased with their kids and their effort. Both were very impressive and interesting. With the privacy required on recruiting and the new conference, they couldn't say much.

Stone discussed the health issues on the team. They're down to six full-time healthy players and one that's unable to practice. A report was given of the six recruits who sogned letters of intent in November and she indicated that there may be one additional signee. I've been all her games, and her team has really improved. From my observations, the team is in terrific hands.

There was no discussion about Carter or his status. Responding to a question about the most improved player on the team, Crews mentioned Manning, McCall and Barnett. He also discuss GG the high-energy he brings to the floor. All in all, Coach Crews was very interesting. He tells a good story. I think he'd be a real good next-door neighbor, My definition of a good guy.

By the way, the women play VCU Saturday night at 7 o'clock atChaifetz. All season-ticket holders have free tickets to the women's games in their packages. If you haven't gone, give it a try. I think you'll enjoy it.

I would add a couple of things. May did say that the University is out there selling SLU to the C7. We are doing our part . Crews said recruiting is going well but when did a coach ever say recruiting was going poorly. Don't look for any local players next year but hopefully the year after. Knows we need bigs but there aren't many out there.Wants more playing time for Manning and Grandy. As stated above he was warm and friendly.
  2. I'm watching Illinois and OhioState and low and behold there is last night's short white referee. It is hard to believe any of those guys last night would ever work a big 10 game. He just got in Groce's face. Very unprofessional. Whatever happened to the Steve Wellmer, Ton O'Neil Eddie Hightowers of the world. Last night was so bad that I almost wish Mike Sancere was doing our games.

  3. JJ and CR are both obvious targets.

JJ has entirely stopped his high school side spin free throw. Which is good. He also has stopped shooting as much of a chest push shot so he can see basket better.

Last couple of free throws CR was 6-8 inches behind line. How can the coaches let him keep doing that.

Also RL used to be in our top four free throw shooters- if he gets knocked on his butt he needs to take time to collect himself. I though he was going to wimp up an air ball.

I'm not sure I agree with your chest push comment. That is exactly what I thought he was doing last night. In any event he should not handle the ball as much late in games. Kevin Lisch he is not.
  4. Lots of weird, vague information being posted in this thread. First and foremost, everyone please put the name Paul Reinert into the board spellcheck. ;)

Reinert was president from 1949-1972 and then chancellor, which was his fundraising role. O'Connell succeeded him, followed for 2 years by Father Drummond, who was perhaps the "very old" person confused in a prior post. Then Father Fitzgerald followed by Biondi.

Of all of them, Reinert and Biondi were the ones who made significant marks, although Fitzgerald shored up the finances and allowed Biondi to pilot a sound if not terribly attractive ship. The difference was style: Reinert gave us the fabled Chaifetz episode and was pretty universally loved; I doubt anyone would say that about Biondi. (O'Connell, by the way, was very well-liked by the students, and we see where that went in both the short and long terms.)

Another small irony was that Reinert was responsible for laicizing the Board of Trustees. I'm reasonably sure his intent was not to make it the hypersecret rubber-stamp board that it eventually evolved into.

I also finally found at least one article that completely debunks the whole "move to West County" thing about Reinert -- and I continue to contend quite strongly that Biondi never once has had the opportunity to do so other than using it as a bluff.

Fr.Fitz saved the university from going broke. This was the era of 18% short term rates. The university was a heavy short term borrower and was quickly going broke. Fitzgerald came in and floated long term bonds and got off the negative cash flow.
