  1. Pretty lame bunch. All of em.

If I was Crews, I'd be taking the first train out to a middling Major after the season. He knows what he's not going to have and it's time to strike while the iron is hot. Don't argue with me. You know I'm right. Alabama or another middling SEC team offers and he's gone with the wind.

Hey, maybe the Lakers will offer [/quoteMaybe Crews will go to coach VCU when Shaka leaved to coach Missouri.

  2. Going to have to side with Taj on this one. They will give you all the exercises in the world to build up the muscles to hold that shoulder in, but once that ligament is stretched, it doesn't stretch back. Get the surgery and rehab. He'd be right as rain next season.

What does right as rain really mean?
  3. In my opinion it has no meaningful impact on our seed. I did not say tank the game - perhaps our younger players could play at a high level and our seniors would only need to support. I understand your point but mine is we can bite our nose off to spite ourselves. I really would just lose quickly and head back to StL to rest up and heal up..

I don't agree. I think a quick loss could cost you 1 seed spot. I still believe winning out could get you a 2 .
  4. Agreed with all of the above except winning the A10. In theory, sure I of course would rather win and I will be in Brooklyn, so yes, that would be amazing to repeat. However, it is truly all about the Big Dance. I think we need to lose in Brooklyn and do so in the first or second round. After winning 3 games and 3 days we looked drained when we played Oregon last year. If that happens, then we fly cross-country to California (which is where most mock drafts have us thanks to WS and Kansas getting the preference for St. Louis) to play a Thursday/Saturday. That would be 5 games in 8 days + a trip cross-country. As we saw against VCU, when the game is tight, we will cut our roster down to 7 and our seniors will average 34+ minutes. I think 5 games in 8 days at those minutes is too much to ask for. While I do not promote trying to lose, perhaps increasing the frequency of rotations and giving the freshman more minutes in Brooklyn is in the best interest of our NCAA Tournament success.

Of course we want to win the A10 tournament. We want the best seed possible. They are not going to send us west again. Never want to lose. No such thing as a good loss.
  5. Biondi did not announce the top 50 proclamation when Spoon was here it was when Grawer was here.

this is correct. It was at a season ending awards banquet. He did very little over the next 25 years to make it happen. I also believe he was reluctant to ask the civic progress types for arena money when he was trying to get their money for other programs. We were also their tenant for Keil /Scott Trade. My belief is it got built in spite of Biondi.
  6. Albums was the force behind the commissioners tourney. In those days you had to win your league to go to the NCAA tournament. The commissioners tournament was for all the teams that came in second . At least one was held in STL. (can't remember how many they had) Bob Knight was here against his desires. I think attendance was poor. Don't know if it died under it's own weight or the NCAA expanding their field.

  7. I don't know doc. Did you watch the Mo. Vandy game. Kept saying Vandy couldn't win shooting the 3 ball. Had to throw it into the middle and score inside. Every time it went inside was a turnover or blocked shoot. Vandy hit 12 three's to win the game. Must have made the point 4 times.

  8. I'd give the nod to last year. That said, JJ has certainly been a more than adequate replacement for KM, and RL's recent improvement makes up for losing CE. But not having CE off the bench complementing RL is a minus. Mc3s been the real surprise, since he's been a more consistent 3 shooter than CE. Just different positions. I think with CE and CR we were better able to handle the athletic big PFs that are giving us so much trouble this year. Would be nice to see GG, TL, and RA be able to fill those roles as DEs too short for a lot of them. Speaking of which, I think DEs better at the 3, however, that kind of falls on GG since he lost his starting role.

I agree with your comments about DE. Having to play the 4 is asking a lot for an undersized player. It is really hurting his rebounding. He's having to screen off the other teams power forward instead of just going to the ball as a 3. At this stage of the season we're not going to change, nor should we. As an aside Tanner is not ready to play defense at this level. Let's hope we can get more from Grandy.
  9. We have had this discussion before and it has been noted that most coaches - including RM - do not think giving points away with FTs is the right way to go - is that good enough for you.

Not the same situation we're talking about but Syracuse doesn't foul last night and Duke hits the 3 to force overtime. Today Craig Robinson gives the foul and it works perfectly. I've yet to see a team lose by giving the foul but I've seen a hell of a lot of teams hit the 3 for the tie.
