Ellis answered with a 3 that made it 60-58, and Conklin then drew a charge that gave SLU a chance to tie the game with less than a minute to play. But after working the ball around, Jett drove the baseline and was called for a charge with 53 seconds left, and that chance was lost. Williams made one of two free throws with 34.5 seconds left, giving SLU one more chance to tie, but Ellis' next 3 missed. Williams kept SLU's hopes alive by making just one of two free throws with 14.6 seconds left, and Ellis was fouled trying a 3 with 7.4 seconds left.
