  1. Does anybody know much about Harry Giles and his recruitment? From a google search I can see he has cut his list to 8 with the other same 3 as Jayson's. Just curious if anybody follows recruiting closely enough to know if he has a couple favorites. I could see if he goes to Duke that would big a bigger pull to get Jayson to go to Duke but if he goes to Wake Forest, it might help SLU slightly.

Also, will Tyler Cook plan on cutting his list down? I don't even know if SLU would make a cut on that list as he seems to want to go away to school but just curious who his top schools would be.

  2. Tatum simply needs to keep doing what he is already doing and that includes working out with his own trainers. The real growth and training is not done by Chaminade's head coach nor will it be done by his college coach for one year (whether Coach K or Jim Crews). NCAA rules simply prevent college coaches from working kids out for a limited time (1.5 hours or so per week) in the offseason. So even if we concede that Coach K is the better coach than Coach Crews, the amount of time with your college coach for his one year is simply not enough to make that big of a difference. Instead, the real training for Tatum will be with his own guys all year long -- not during the limited season - and/or with strength and conditioning guys. By comparison, 3 of our SLU rostered kids are/will be working out with Pure Sweat guys Alex Bazzell and Drew Hanlen - who was/is the private trainer for David Lee and Bradley Beal. I do not know if Tatum is being trained by them or someone else but am sure others on this Board can tell us.

I believe Drew Hanlen is Jayson's trainer. Frank had him on his show a little while ago talking about all the Duke coaches coming in to watch him.

  3. It would be impossible to break it down to a % but at this point we are the leaders and Duke is closely behind. It's been like this for a while.

I would have guessed that Duke would be the leaders with us following closely but I have no inside knowledge. If we are in the lead, I would like our chances mainly because the pull to go to Duke will be no bigger than right now after they won a national championship in my opinion.

  4. I have heard that Mizzou is still very much in play. I heard this from a reliable source for SLU info but not sure how much he knows about Tatum's recruitment. I would see Mizzou replacing either Kansas or UNC on that list if he is correct.

Mizzou would surprise me to still be in the running. They lost any coaches that would have been developing a relationship with him for more than a year and that program is a mess right now with rumors they could have more than just their top scorer transferring. I would think if he wants to stay home, SLU would be the leader otherwise it will be an elite program with a big name coach where he will end up. Mizzou with Anderson does not fit in that category.

Not to mention there are people talking that if Anderson has a bad year next year, he could be gone after that as this is a new AD that did not hire him and has been known to make quicker changes.

  5. Exactly... if I am a top 3 recruit, I would be looking at our current roster and worried that the team might actually hurt my draft pick. Tatum may be all about being the hometown hero, not give two craps about winning it all in the tournament, but I have to believe that he is thinking about his draft pick. Do we have a team that can compliment him? Do we have a point guard that can consistently get him the ball? Tatum cant take on 5 guys by himself. Just a thought...

Which is why I think his quote of him being at SLU "every other week" is very interesting. If this spring/summer, he heads down and just plays some pick up games with our current freshmen, then he will know if he can play with them. And that's all that matters is if he thinks it's a good fit playing with those guys. He will most likely make his decision before we even know how improved these guys will be next year, but the fact he has said a couple times he is down at SLU every other week leads me to believe there is a chance he may have a good idea.

  6. lol.... no way Tatum comes to SLU. As a SLU alum, I am not afraid to admit that SLU is not very exciting for a 1 and doner.

What do you mean by exciting? I would think being able to bring his home city some of the greatest success they have ever had in college basketball would be pretty exciting. Being treated as a home town hero would be exciting.

If he can help lead them to a final four, he would be remembered for his success here forever. Can't say the same thing at Duke or Kentucky.

  7. Yea I'm curious about his at SLU "every other week" comment as well because I saw that in another interview. Does he hang out with some players like Roby and Reynolds? Or is he just referring that he travels by SLU?

I think I remember on twitter an exchange between him and Reynolds around the start of the season where he said he had Roby's number but don't feel like looking for it.

  8. I saw this today about how the big east is not getting good ratings on tv.

    http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/big-east-basketball-scoring-foxfox-sports-1.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=big-east-basketball-scoring-foxfox-sports-1

If you believe the old rumors that the big east had an option to expand the league and size of the tv deal proportionally, this seems like bad news. Fox certainly realizes this was not money well spent and won't be pushing the big east to expand anytime soon if the have to pay more for an underperforming product.

If you want to stay positive, maybe fox goes back to the big east and tells them this isn't working out great right now and they need to shake things up. Not sure SLU is much of a shakeup but any movement might be a good thing.

To go along with this, I read last month that Dayton is seventh-best in the country in college basketball ratings during the first two months of the season. Perhaps it's the Dayton market they are looking at to shake it up and then it will be SLU trying to get the extra spot as they expand to 12.

  9. Talked to him at the Wichita St Alumni Event...he didnt come out and say it, but....we aren't going anywhere.

Wonder if anything has changed since then. His answer of "There will most likely be another wave of conversation about that" and "No one knows where conference realignment is going, but I feel strong about our position today and opportunities in the future" leads me to believe he thinks there could be something up. But I could just be optimistic and reading into it too much.

  10. We are currently pretty much at the bottom of A10, do you really think this makes us an attractive candidate for inclusion in the Big East next year?

I wouldn't think they would make a decision on who to invite based on 1 year performance of the basketball team. I would think there are a lot of factors they take into account like market size, arena, how competitive are the other athletics, and the commitment they show to improving their athletics. SLU has shown commitment to it's basketball program recently so having a down year after graduating 5 starting seniors I can't believe would be a deciding factor.

They have also built the track stadium and baseball and softball hitting facility as Chris May mentioned in the Q&A.

  11. Anybody else read the Q&A with Chris May in the post? The second question was about conference realignment and it sounded like he knows there may be talk of it coming up again soon. Also mentioned how they would want to be with schools that are "like-minded institutions" and a few items that would be attractive to the Big East (Top 20 media market, good corporate support). Curious if anybody has heard anything or if anybody else who read it seemed to think he may know of an opportunity coming soon as I sensed he was hinting at.

Could just be me being optimistic.

  12. A writer for duke/UNC Rivals site

@clintjackson1: Watch out for St Louis -- yes, SLU, in the race for 2016 stud Jayson Tatum. More of a player than most think.

I think this is one of the more surprising positive developments. Somebody who covers those teams saying that SLU may have a shot against them must mean he is hearing something. Seems like a random time yesterday to just have a tweet like that unless he was being asked questions or something.

  13. It's tough to say because he is a fan of SLU and said it was great to receive and offer from the team that he always rooted for, but it sounds like he wants to get away from St Louis and play for the biggest name he can get.

They aren't a package deal at all but I do think getting Tatum would help our chances with Cook.

Yea I think I sort of had that impression on the biggest name. I think he would be a great get especially since, as others have mentioned, he would be here for 4 years. Having a local kid with offers to big schools like Kansas, Michigan and Florida on our team for 4 years and talking to other local recruits in the area when they come to visit would be a big help in my mind.

Hopefully him and Tatum will both decide to stay home.

  14. Has anybody heard anything on Tyler Cook and his interest in SLU? I think I remember from following Ben on twitter last year that he attended 10+ SLU games last year so I thought there was interest on his part but this was before the Kansas offer. I haven't heard if he has been to any games yet this year or made any visits down to talk to Crews but I know he has an offer.
