F#@% that! I'm thankful for this year's team! I have really enjoyed watching every game this year, with the exception of the Ball State game. The team is getting better each game. Thank God my enthusiasm is back. Let's kick Samford's ass!

1000% on point. TF is not playing around this season at all! Boys are buying in. Great to watch the growth taking place on the court.

  2. I think past history allows everyone to think it will be the same kind of season as last two but I think it will become very clear to many this is not the same go around.

Ford has laid a strong foundation and I think has predictably kept expectations low to get everyone into a wait till next year mode. He is a fierce competitor, the players believe in him, he believes in them, and he has righted the ship. When a coach has high expectations of you as a player and shows you the way to achieve it, that can only have a positive effect on players that are now playing for each other. Talent level at SLU has always been high but Crewsplatt did not know how to harness it. Calling it now.....18+ wins. Final thoughts.....dunk city is back at SLU. Mentality around the program is high. These boys will compete! Beating SLU is not going to be a walk in the park.

    Go Bills!

  3. Congrats to Grandy, people know how bad a coach Crews was the last 2 years but I am pretty sure those same people will be shocked how bad he really was. Some of the same players that people on here have dogged to no end will be the ones having similar or better production this season and next.

  4. I'm going to attribute Ash's less than expected greatness to some very poor coaching and a very young not very good supporting cast. I don't think Ash was ever expected to be the legend, but will agree had he played with the "self coached" 5 of Jett, Evans, Mitchell, Loe, and Barnett he would have delivered more. In fact, Jake probably would have been the 6th man not a starter.

Ash had some good games here but playing in the Crews helter skelter offenses he was doomed.

    10000% correct.

Ash never had a chance here to be the best he could be. I think his talents were misused here and he is 1st real victim of the Crews era. Not only could JC not develop him, he did not do so for any of the other players. It will be interesting how Coach Ford works with MC and RA to put them on a real trajectory.

  5. I have low expectations for our AD to act quickly. I'll be worried if he isn't gone by April 1st

I doubt it will take that long to do it. Transfers will decimate the team if they try to pull that. The players are frustrated too and are not going to accept a slow trigger on this one. The faster it happens the better it is for the program. Additionally if the replacement is a bad one kids will leave regardless.

  6. -who cares? AY will play and Crews will coach one more game and then they will be reduced to entries in the Archive section of the SLU website

-thanks to AY for his contributions, wish you would have had a better on court experience while at SLU but I am proud/happy that you are going to be the first in your family to get a college degree, wishing you much success

AY is the first victim of JC era coaching. The kids talent was not that of role player. He was always a star! Unfortunately he started to play right after the RM boys graduated and his development into the potential player he should have become was stunted by this staffs inability to fine tune his game. An outstanding rebounder, scorer, and defender that will hopefully find his game by working with a good trainer. The energy he brought should have been harnessed for Billiken success. Another gem about to be lost!

  7. It's hard to argue with the above. Some of us, of course, would place more blame on certain deficiencies rather than upon others... but at the end of the day, Jim Crews will likely be gone because his teams did not play hard or smart. By that, I mean that his teams simply have not played good defense or worked hard to get needed rebounds which would have give us 5 to 8 more games per year. Ask yourself: how many times have our teams these past two (2) years played really good team defense to come away with a big stop at a key point of a close game? Or gotten that big rebound to give us another chance to keep the game close or to pull away? I say next to none.

In short, this has been going on for years. Yes, MC, RA and TL did not play good defense when they arrived on campus as Freshmen but they also did not play good defense when they finished their Freshman year -- and therefore could not help our then Seniors very much. Even guys like MM who turned into a defensive specialist for us did not play good defense when they first arrived on campus either. Defense and rebounding requires hard work (effort) and being smart (knowing angles and mentally processing distances and percentages). RM was a master at both motivating and teaching angles, percentages, etc. Crews has been completely deficient and even taught our guys to concede rebounding - both on FT's and on our shots preferring for our guys to cut and run back on defense.

No, had Jim Crews' teams at least played good defense and rebounded, then despite all of the other mistakes mentioned above and even with our existing talent level, we would be a mediocre team - probably good enough to finish out his contract. Instead, we are a truly bad team and Crews must go now.

Cannot disagree with you. Defense first has been dying under JCs watch. Only with that in place can you truly compete at this level.

  8. I think SLU could do a lot worse than Kelsey. But I think SLU could do a lot better than Kelsey too.

I like Kelsey but like Dana Ford better. Head man at Tennessee State,at 31 is the youngest D1 coach. Just named Ohio Valley Coach of the Year after inheriting a team with one returning player on a 5 win team 2 years ago to 20 wins and number 4 finish in OVC after taking down Belmont in season finale. Fastest regular season turnaround in D1

  9. Reggie and Crawford brought it last night. They've brought it throughout their careers. I hope they have a successful senior year away from an incompetent coach/staff and away from a group of selfish, hot-headed teammates.

    +1000000000000

Could not have said it any better. I believe that we are just scratching the tip of how good Crawford, Reggie, and Bishop could be with the right staff developing them.
