  1. This game was fun to watch. I honestly think Crawford is stronger and quicker than Lisch but can't tell whether he has Kevin's three point shot-which was terrific. Most impressed with ability to twist and move quickly to the basket, and his outstanding demeanor on the court. He has a presence. Really has it.

  2. Friends and I traveled to Tipton Indiana to watch Mike Crawford and his Tipton Devils ( ranked First in 2A) take on The Frankfort Hotdogs ( ranked high in 3A). Crawford started slow as the guards couldn't get the ball to him and Frankfort was leading at he quarter by 16. Then Crawford started bringing up the ball and hook over the game. He is a slasher, quick, strong and great body control, twisting around defenders for layups. Outside shot very good, but primarily a driver. All FTs swishes until one miss and then an intentional miss with seconds left. He didn't have lot of support, Frankfort was bigger and stronger, but they tried double teaming Mike but failed. Not sure how many he scored but probably in the 30s. He is going to be valuable. Strong legs and good leaper. He is an athlete! Modest and unassuming too. No showboating or whining but class kid. SLU is going o love this kid, who people there said is an excellent student.

  3. Sorry, Cassity. Looking forward to seeing MC play. Most of the reports I have read are positive, but after I read we beat out Yale and Stetson for his services, I am more curious than before. Someone told me Crawford is a candidate for Mr. Basketball in Indiana, he has come on that much. I am going to Tipton with an open mind and no preconceptions. I really don't know what to expect.

  4. Couple friends and I are going to Tipton Ind to watch our signee Mike Crawford play. We went to Pinckneyville some years ago to see Brett Thompson of Vienna and wound up impressed with a guard fom PHS named Kyle Cassidy, who we never heard of but who dominated. Met his mom who was selling tournament sweatshirts at halftime. At that time SLU was not interested in her son. Things changed after that. I today called the AD at Tipton who told me Pizza Shack is The place to go before and after the game. One hotel otherwise stay in Kokomo. Love these little trips. Small town hoosier hysteria. Tipton is near Terhune, a real town whose high school was one of Hickory's opponents in Hoosiers. I will report Sunday. if anyone interested meet us at pizza shack at 530 ET. We will be drinking and wearing SLU garb. Heard Crawford coming on strong.

  5. The Bills were shorthanded without Carter, and wihout Jett for a half. McCall played hard, and Evans was tough. Ellis after playing poorly in first half ( except for taking charges) came on. Loe seemed to be intimidated. We didn't give up though. One official, who I saw yakking with the Kansas players during breaks in the action, was a true homer. Had Mitchell played, he would have controlled the tempo. It would have been a closer game.

  6. Does anyone believe John Manning will see significant minutes this season? I was hoping he would see more time last night. Last year some posters thought he would be a force this year. CR didnt play last night. The fact that JM did not play until the final minute appears to be meaningful. Right now I don't see him contributing a lot. Hope I am wrong.

  7. This statement has little to do with country clubs or rebuke to Biondi. I think Biondi has had a lot to do with SLU's rise among Catholic universities. It's easy to criticize his arrogance and other irritating personality traits, but not to recognize his leadership in transforming this sleepy college into a real force is wrong. The trustees are making a statement for which they should be commended. I am proud of SLU. No one thought we could build a stadium or make the campus attractive, but it happened.

  8. Question for Board: Will Crews install his own D system or use Majeurus'? I seem to recall he was influenced by Bobby Knight's D theories while an asst at IU and at Evansville. Seems crazy to change RM's system ( I love how we send two or three back after our missed shot and rarely get burned on a fast break for eg--RM staple) but maybe he can't teach it like Rick so wonder if he might morph to his own system if more comfortable.

  9. Never understood the hatred towards Dayton. They seem to have a fan base most similar to ours.

I cant believe we are discussing Notre Dame's graduation rates. If I cared enough I could write a dissertation on all of the disgusting behavior that Notre Dame players, coaches, officials have perpetrated. Does it go on everywhere? It does. Is there one school that claims they are above it all? There is. There is no other school, with a possible exception of Brigham Young, that alumni tie their religious faith into some blind support for their teams, but Ive never heard anyone from BYU claiming moral superiority. ND's denial-mindset reminds me more of Penn State. They both havent been relevant in fifteen years but cling to the past. Penn State clung to Joe Paterno the same way Notre Dame faithful cling to Catholicism to prove to themselves that they are somehow better than everyone else. It didn't work out well for Penn State and it certainly isnt working out well for Notre Dame (ie looking the other way on rape, total failure to take meaninglful responsibility in the death of that student manager).

  10. Hatred of other schools? I don't hate X, Dayton, ND or Marquette, or even Duke. These are good schools. Here are rotten pples everywhere. We have had our issues too I repect SLU for beefing up its academics, campus and basketball program. Easy to *****, but we are doing well without becoming a joke school. The schools that were a joke were Miami in Jimmy Johnson's tenure, UNLV under Tark, where the schools themselves let totally unqualified players in. There were others but to dis schools because jealousy is silly.

  11. Maybe I was seeing things but he seemed to be moving like Bryce Husak when I saw him. Happy to read what you said. I must have seen him when he was gassed. As said, I trust RM. But the fans around me were kinda wondering about JM's speed too. Agreed Loe is slow and suited for half court game.

  12. I keep reading posts that say RM says he will be all league, dominant etc. But watching him as a freshman he didn't seem to run well. I trust RM's judgment but you can't teach speed. Has anyone else noticed JM's ability to get down the floor? We can't always be in a half court offense, and getting back on d is a Majeurus trademark.
