  1. I'll choose. It's number 3, obviously. You must have pretty thin skin to whip out "idiot" because a poster didn't know you were a credible source and ribbed you a little. Then you overreact to Cowboy for suggesting you could have handled it differently.

    For PB:

"Creighton, of the Missouri Valley Conference, also has been mentioned as a possibility for the Atlantic 10. Father Timothy Lannon, Creighton's president since 2011, was previously president for eight years at St. Joseph's, so there's a political connection between the league and the school. However, Creighton – the only Catholic university in the MVC – is a poor geographical fit, so the Blue Jays might be a long shot."

Here is BlueJay board discussing it:

    http://creighton.riv...id=1209&style=2

thanks for the quotes.... creighton would be excellent to have in the league

you may have missed some of this since you are new - some of the posters get on here and don't realize who has some real info and then act foolishly and then they don't post. i can name at least 5 posters with good sources of info who have quit sharing because they get fed up with the nonsense.

  2. Not to pick nits but that thread degenerated into SAT scores and all sorts of ridiculoous crap. I'm happy as heck not to have to wade through it to get to a nugget of info.....

Agreed - that thread is getting ridiculous. I think we can cut you some slack considering you have produced the most substance on this board during the last couple of months. It is nice to hear some recruiting info especially after the past 9 months we have had to endure.

Thanks for all of your hard work Blogman!

  3. My brother-in-law and I are going to the Duke game and then heading to Chapel Hill to see UNC play Long Beach State. Should be a fun trip.

Who on here is going to the Duke game?

    Where are you staying?

Is there a SLU pre-game reception?

Look forward to seeing some of you there.

  4. Hes not any different from last year really.

At this point, CE is a 3-point shooter, that's all. That is what he was last year too, but there were more open 3s. However, CE is getting a lot better defensively. He still needs to get stronger and quicker, as well as develop an offensive game, but that doesn't come right away.

I don't know what people were expecting him to do that he isn't doing.

I was thinking about you this evening and when you told me back in April that Loe would not be dominant this year.

  5. The Post sucks. My hometown paper back in Indiana is better than the Post and their operation is pretty weak. When I moved here I had a subscription for a month and immediately canceled it; I haven't had a subscription since. My brother-in-law tells me often that if you want to read the story first then pick up the RFT. He is right.

  6. I have personally had it with Phillips and his constant mistakes and lack of preparation. As an announcer, in my opinion, he is an absolute joke.

I am going to do what I can to get the powers that be to understand how bad he is and how he must go!

The board does not agree on everything--but it seems to me we are all agreed on this one subject. Please everyone, if you agree with my opinion, start an email barrage to the Athletic Dept about this guy and ask every fan you know to bombard the Athletic Dept with complaints. I believe we can make a difference!

    Go Bills!

Billikan, I agree. Guy shows a lack of professionalism by coming to the games unprepared. I think Chris Brose would be a nice replacement. I know he said before that he is not looking to push Guy out but I think he would fit in nicely. Maybe his name should be mentioned in the emails suggesting a change in the PA position. I thought he was great when he replaced Guy shortly last year.

  7. Actually, I think Jordair Jett is going to be our go-to guy within the next couple of months. He clearly has a nose for the basketball and has enough control of his body to not foul when he is driving.

Perhaps he will be the go-to guy in the future but there is zero leadership now. Very frustrating to watch.

  8. Speaking of students not at SLU...Darrin Young transferred.

Figured this much as he was not in the photo shoot. I know McCall, Jordair and Rob missed it. There are two new walk-ons in the pictures. Should be an interesting season.

  9. Doctor Benofy,

So you know when they play summer league games? Is this at the Rec? What days of the week and what time?

That's hilarious - Dr. Benofy! Is he still there? His handwritting was that of typed print. (Dr. B - Dr. Benofy taught physics at SLU in the early 90's). I think Dr. B hails from a town ruled by Kilroys and Crimson and Cream if I am not mistaken. Dr. B - are you from IN or just study at IU?

  10. Skip.

Why yes I can find where you said KM is not a very good passer.

Post #17 of this thread. You wrote "He doesn't really run the offense, I wouldn't call him a great passer either. He's a 2 guard in a pg's body who has good handles and can play the point."

No one is changing your words and I have no agenda. If you want to take back your comments about KM, go for it. If not, that's fine, but just don't blame me.

Just having some late night fun here but you said a very good passer and Skip said a great passer. You did in fact change his words.

  11. Skip, you made a very good point earlier when I mentioned Anthony Booker. But, first of all, the players are punished for transferring, they have to sit out a year. But coaches can kick anyone off they want. Secondly, players are recruited to schools, not vice-versa.

Lets say you have a 33 on the ACT and you decide you want to go to St. Jesuit university. You get accepted and you go there for a year. You stay on top of your studies and get good, but not great grades. But, the school gets a bunch of kids with 36s to apply. They only have so much room, so they get rid of you so that the 36s can come in. That doesn't seem fair to me.

But, If you go to the school and all of your professors and cruel to you, and you don't like the school, should you be forced to stay? Again, I don't think so.

A coach takes a risk when he recruits a player. A player also takes a risk when he chooses a school. But, when it comes down to it, I will side with the kid who is still growing rather than the experienced coach who has been doing this for years.

Hey pal - it's Saint Jesuit University.

  12. I dont see how anything that has happened today would make you thing that things are looking "up". We lost two players, the 9th and 10th players to transfer in the last three years, a disturbingly high number.

We received a commitment from a not-so-highly-rated (I know that doesn't mean he is bad) PG who will most likely serve as a backup for at least two years.

I was looking forward to the team a lot more when we had everyone coming back from a 23 win season.

But apparently, obscene roster turnover is necessary to be "big-time"

The "obscene roster turnover" is secondary to growing pains, especially with large class sizes and being bottom-heavy in youth. This will start to fade and even out as the current sophomores get older. These guys want to play because they are decent players that want to contribute and win. These guys are not dumb either, they see the caliber of guys coming in and know that playing time will be harder to come by. These guys don't want to be role players in the current system - they want to be heavy contributors and will go elsewhere to find it. You have a few stars that are established and these guys aren't going away for awhile - the future is pretty clear.

Things are looking up for a few reasons:

    1. Classes are being balanced by the its own devices.

    2. We lost arguably the 9th and 10th players to more playing time - that means our team is getting pretty good and competition for playing time is reigning king (this makes everyone better and helps them develop and improve).

    3. We gained a new JJ who will likely be more aggressive and create for the other players. I think this guy will get to the paint and make things happen. I suspect this will work better for the system and players we currently have and incoming.

    4. The new JJ has hair consistent with a baller. Instant upgrade.

    5. The usual suspects to the 23 win season are coming back and are getting a better supporting cast and possibly some of the usual suspects will be taking a supporting role to the new guys.

I am not sure how you came to this conclusion about Jett but I think RM has a better scouting report. RM has been chasing this guy for a year and a half - that has to tell you something. You are putting too much weight into the Scout, et al rankings. Jordan wasn't even position ranked or rated by Scout where Jett at least has a position rank. I am sure you have not seen Jett play more than most so I am pretty sure you have no more additional information to support your claim. I have a suspicion that both RL and neo-JJ will surprise you next year. That said, I am looking forward to next season more than ever.

  13. what you believe that rickma goes in to mom and tells her, how tough he is and that the scholarship is one year and the kid is gonna take it and like it? nice joke.

Sounds to me that the parents and the kids should read the contract and ask questions prior to signing. Do you read every contract you sign line-by-line? When you buy a car do you think they are going to discuss all of the possible bad things that can happen or what will void your warranty? No, that takes away from the excitement and the moment. There is some salesmanship going on; I am sure the number of windsprints each day is not discussed to obtain full disclosure.

  14. yes the school should be committed to the kids and not allow jerkoff coaches to send them packing for no good reason other than they found another kid that can shoot better than the one leaving.

the coach made the kid a promise to give them an education and play basketball. if the coach promised them he would be the coach forever, and that is the reason the kid came, well the kid apparently isnt very smart. the kid should be coming to the school for the school itself.

the kid gets promised college not a father.

If these kids were coming to the school for the "school" and not the basketball program then why aren't the Ivy League school breaking into the Final Four every year?

The reality of it is this: the majority of basketball players looking to play college ball are not choosing a school, they are choosing a basketball program or a coach (Look at Coach Cal bringing his Memphis recruits with him to UK - UK is a $hitty school academically in comparison but they didn't care). Look at RL - he doesn't know diddly about the academics of SLU but he sure knows the coach. The coach will develop him because he is known to develop bigs for the next level. He chose SLU for the team chemistry but not the chemistry department in Monsanto Hall. These kids all think they are going to the NBA. School/schoolwork is an obstacle or obligation to many of these guys not a privelege or goal. There are some exceptions like the poster-child to all student-athletes in the Lisch kids. As a matter of fact, I am sure how the coeds look is more important than school and plays more of a factor in their decision making than academics.

So, you are right - they aren't very smart for not caring about school and the academics and making it a large weight in their decision-making; however, they think their brain is less likely to make them successful than their fade-away or 3-point shot which ultimately is their ticket to the NBA (and they all have some delusions of grandeur in thinking they are NBA bound - but it is a little understood since they have heard they are going to the NBA all their life).

One other thing, if the coaching staff is truly an ambassador to the school then shouldn't the school share the blame for kids being "run off" rather than just the head coach. The school is the guarantor of the scholarship not the coach.

Also, can you define above "play basketball".

  15. Yes, really. If JJ just wanted to leave for more playing time (which may well be the case — I'm not trying to point fingers here), then they would publish the press release once he made it known he intends to transfer. Then they would publish another release a couple of weeks down the line when the new recruit's LOI came in. But if Jordan has already decided, of his own volition, to leave but they wait until a replacement LOI comes in, it would appear — to me, at least — that they pulled Jordan's scholarship to make room for someone else.

I think there may be few things in play here.

First, the AD may be waiting for the semester to end prior to making an official announcement. This would allow JJ to finish his classes without any distractions. If this is the case then I think it is a classy move.

Second, I think the AD may be looking for some parity in equalizing the bad news with some good news and doing it in one announcement rather than bringing too much attention to the fact that we had a player leave. Just announcing someone leaving looks bad and I think it takes some of the pressure off the player leaving coupling good news with their departure.

I think you are making too much out of pairing these announcements.

  16. downhill slide?

    9 - 16 - 20 three previous seasons win totals in order.

go d-2? are you serious? while i agree the billikens were not a continuing basis top 50 rpi program they were far from 340ish which would have shown a "go division II or forget about" trend. "a lot of pain and suffering"? i am sure anthony bonner, douglas and gray, claggett, highmark and waldman, hughes and love, perry and fisher, izik, lisch and liddell, ian, etc all really appreciate your analysis. fans like you are actually pretty sickening imo.

again, i never said the program was a top 50 program, but it was far from a d-2 or forget about it. far from a lot of pain and suffering. i am thrilled we are poised to accomplish a nice season and more going forward, but dont slam our players of the past. your post is even worse than big bills post. you should be ashamed of yourself.

    Roy,

I agree that these individuals are fine people and gave their best to SLU while they played. No doubt that the longtime fans of SLU are proud much like a parent is proud of their child/children. Watching the program take the roller-coaster ride over the years between mediocrity and decency has become the norm. I think what these posters are saying is that mediocrity is a thing of the past or at least what we see as mediocre will be redefined. I appreciate your fandom to the program and willingness to stick it out through thick and thin all these years; however, I don't think we are trending like we used to. Mediocrity will be redefined and our players will be better than they were in the past; because our incoming players are getting better some will leave because of playing time. Of course they want more playing time, they are better, more competitive players who are winners and sitting the bench is not in their persona and is frankly unacceptable. They are competitive and want to win by contributing. It is the nature of the beast.

Roy, one other thing. You are digressing from the point of some of the posters by nit-picking some insignificant details in their statement. You have to look at the big picture.

I have to say that just because someone is unhappy with their playing time doesn't mean someone has to be blamed or that a wrong-doing has been inflicted. Sometimes the player just isn't happy. It is part of being a competitive program and it makes me happy that we are achieving this level of competition within our program. We will only get better and this is a good sign of better players to come.

  17. All of these complaints are totally unrelated to the fact that RM is taking us to new heights and is creating a winning program. Complain all you want - fixing his "flaws" will not make this program win more so really it is irrelevant.

By the way, sometimes a little destructive reconstruction is good for a stagnant program.

  18. If Clyburn were gonna commit why wouldn't he have done so. He just added a new school to his list and took a visit there (utah). He doesn't seem to be leaning towards SLU IMO.

He visited Utah in order to load up on muscle milk, try on a few garments and see where RM made his name known (his way of understanding RM by paying homage to history) on Utah's dime.
