  1. That's is exactly what I'm saying. No disrespect to Crews but todays game has passed him by. Read and react motion offense won't work when you have a variety of restrictions put on certain guys. Assistants pushed a bit and I guess JC saw the writing on the wall.

    I'm not arguing, I'm wondering.

Are you making an educated guess/assumption? Or do you have a credible source? I'm not asking "who"' if so.

  2. With no NFL, hockey has a lot of upside potential at SLU.

St. Louis fans enthusiastically supported the successful SLU D-1 team in the 70's, with very high attendance before the Jesuits panicked and pulled the plug. Yes I know the free ride ended at the Checkerdome.

It is a Title IX problem, though, you'd have to pull 25 schollies from other men's teams to offset it. Title IX hurt the growth of men's hockey in D-1.

St. Louis is a good hockey town with plenty of support, lots of experienced, knowledgeable people including potential coaches to run the program; it is worth a look but probably isn't going to get one.

  3. Even if Crews starts to see better play that does not solve the real issue and that is his inability to recruit. I am still in the camp for saying lets cut our ties and if the team starts to play a little better than that simply will make it more enjoyable for us and make us look better to an incoming coach.

What? Only Hines last night wasn't recruited by SLU and we beat a good team.

I like the core 5 last night, Reggie-Ash-Crawford-Hines-Bishop, now see if MY wants to play ball, if he gets with the program, then we have something. Same with Roby. Then all the 5's, one or two muscle up a bit and they can contribute, too.

If this kind of play continues, 5-6 more wins are possible for a good positive season end momentum run, and we have a hand to play next year for a big jump to 18-20 win respectability. Not there yet, but some hope.

  4. No it is not - he is not the answer so don't be confused by the occasional win. My question is why has it taken Crews so long to figure out who his best guards are?

    Hater. It happens in sports.

So you'd fire Miller Huggins? 1923? He didn't play Lou Gehrig. When Wally Pip got hurt, Gehrig got his chance.

2015, Piscotty finally got his chance for the Cardinals this year.

Bishop is a freshman. Hines worked his way up as a walk on. Give me a break.

  5. The star system is a very good resource but I agree it is certainly not entirely accurate, and big miscalculations do occur.

The higher the star rating, the higher the likeliness of it's accuracy. So a 5* is well scouted but still might in fact be a lesser *; a 3* is more likely to be a miscalculation, and 2*'s, who knows?

I think the best indicator is how many legitimate offers a player gets from good schools, either power conferences or mid majors with a high basketball success rate, though a lot of the offers come in later in the process with some.

So in our soph class, DR and MY were 3*'s with most services, and also had numerous offers from Big 10 and SEC schools (Iowa, Ark, Minny, Auburn, Ill,,,)

Others in the 2014 class were 3* and 2* but got few offers and / or mostly from much lower level conference schools.

I would say look at the star ratings + what actual offers the kid got from which schools.

And you cannot usually measure what a kid will do once he gets to school... his heart, will he commit to basketball 100%, weight/strengthening/conditioning 12 months a year, practice on his own, listen to the coach and be a good team player? And of course, the coaching matters significantly. Some 2*'s get better every year, some higher rated players do not improve... knuckleheads.

  6. Yes, but we both know those people are only giving Wiz trouble because he is white. Why waste your vitriolic invective on gambling semantics when what the issue really calls for is playing the race card?

How do I know he is white, ass breath? And you bring up sneaky 'lil race issues (like this) more than anyone on the board X 10.

  7. Semantics. The point is that his model is consistently overrating the team. Nobody is saying this is Wiz's fault or screaming that they are "inaccurate." It's an observation. And if you're going to get your feelings hurt over people pointing this obvious trend out, I'm not sure what you think the point is of setting point spreads in the first place.

You know damn well there have been lots of criticism of The Wiz this year, people who (I assume) think he is "predicting" the exact outcome.

Hell The Wiz even made a post telling people if they do not like him to put him on ignore. You get it, I know, you are just being a jackoff.

  8. Any players with a semblance of talent appear to be head cases (e.g. Roby & Milik)

These two were the key to this year.... so talented. They both were solid 3 star recruits, with numerous offers from Big 10 and SEC schools, (Iowa-Minny-Illinois-Auburn-Arkansas to name a few, and more).

Milik was an A-10 all freshman player last year. If Milik had committed to reducing errors, to better discipline, passing the ball when double teamed, etcetera, and Roby had learned to help at the PG position sometimes, and they both played to their potential, things would have moved forward IMO but with this huge void, we are collapsing.

Something is very wrong... yes most on this board say it is Crews fault. Perhaps. It might be. Either way, he is responsible. These two are riding the bench, so something is up. Something has got to give, and it doesn't look good at all.

  9. Over. WAY over.

Jesus. The term is "lay the points" for a straight bet. "Over" is just for wagers on the over / under total.

And for those criticizing The Wiz, you are way off, he is not predicting the outcome, at least I do not think he is.. he is merely providing an estimated spread, very similar to the point spreads from Vegas or Offshore. Example, The KC Chiefs were -3 points, the favorites, at Houston last week, they won 30-0. No one screamed about the -3 being inaccurate. It happens. Similarly, the Vegas spread yesterday for our game was SLU - 2.5, it is not Wiz's fault that the team continues to slide.

  10. Ladies pack the arena for a huge win over Dayton in a winning season.

Men lose in a bumbling "blue-out" vs VCU with 5k in the building

    #FireJimCrews

They had 200 for the previous game, and usually 1000 or a little more, give or take. Fine.

This game was a huge breast cancer fund raiser, multiple forces artificially stimulated, enhanced ticket sales significantly for this very worthy cause.

Do not make an apples to apples comparison, smart ass.

  11. Do you think the Ferguson/Mike Brown Protests have any impact on the decision in the Rams relocating? Maybe when Stan saw the protesters and fans fighting over flags, hitting and spitting on each other after the Rams game, he began to lean towards relocation. Thoughts?????

To some extent, and I bet Kronke brought it up behind closed doors as he trashed SL.

FYI I'm told applications are way down at the 3 major universities in SL.

  12. Have you ever stood up for an AA player this obstinately...

Again, everybody knows that I was one of the strongest supporters of WR and KM re the incident. They were not treated fairly. I wrote numerous posts for months.

    Admit it.

    You are completely wrong.

  13. I don't believe we've taken any in the last decade, but I don't think it's all that common of a situation. And the fact that we haven't had any recently (although I believe Justin Tatum was one) doesn't mean we wouldn't accept a partial qualifier should the situation arise. Many comparable schools do. Marquette had pretty good luck with one a few years back as I recall.

    Right.

SLU does not let kids like that in anymore.

They mostly cannot make it. Sure we have some easier courses for athletes but not outrageous joke classes like at, say, Mizzou (Biology for Non Science Majors).

IMO Mo Alie Cox would not be admitted at SLU. He sat out a year at VCU before becoming academically eligible.

    VCU!

And if you think being all conference scholar athlete means anything, wow, you are clueless. It sometimes is "for show". I know athletes personally that didn't even go to class but made "all conference scholar athlete".

    (VCU!)

  14. He was a partial qualifier (which SLU accepts), but he made the A10 All-Academic Team in 2014-15. I think he'd do just fine at SLU.

I didn't know that. Curious. Provide names of partial qualifier basketball players SLU accepted in the last 10 years. Thank you.
