  1. I heard it too, Soderberg sounded confident, that they can contribute, and especially MR sounded like someone that could make a difference. Said 3 others have visited and 3 more will visit son, and they were mostly JC'ers.

    No names, though, of course.

Hope he gets two JC big men from the ones that are rumored! But I am not optimistic that he will...

  2. I will worry about Imus when I hear apologies from Sharpton, Jackson, and The Black Panthers RE: the Duke case.

The Black Panthers attended Seliegman's first court date, one stood in the first row behind Seliegman and his Dad and shouted "dead man walking" and "rapist!" several times. No one stopped him.

Did you know that before they moved all of the Duke lacrosse players out of their dorms/etc, they needed 24 hr. protection from Durham police... there were real reports of some local, uh, "associates" of the accuser saying they were "going to go over and shoot those boys". FACTS. Not much in the media about either.

I do not worry too much about the Rutgers women. Imus was stupid and wrong, but this is not as signifcant as is being reported. Now Hussein Obama wants him fired.

  3. >Roy Roy Roy....what did you just post?

    >Bobby Knight's man man is successful

    >Denny Crum's D, also a success.

    >Jim Boeheim, guess what, is a success.

    >This is why they NEVER changed anything. Brad's defense,

    >not a success. Good one, blame the poor defense on lisch

    >and liddell and not the fundamentals that Brad (supposedly)

    >teaches at practice.

    >EXCUSE #????

    >

    >When something doesn't work, you use a different approach.

    >you make ADJUSTMENTS in the locker room at halftime. ever

    >heard of this? seriously, roy, stop. give up.

    >

    >Oh, wait, Biondi is in the locker room at halftime doing the

    >coaching. and cheryl levick is bringing the ball down the

    >court. and the billiken club members who DON'T donate

    >enough are setting up the "motion" offense. blame everyone

    >else but the coach and the kids he recruits.

SLUSER is right about this, Soderberg failed to adjust many times, on offense and defense, the seasaon finale GW game was painfull to watch, no adjustments even at halftime, and we have all of those guards but couldn't beat the "trap".

BUT I do not hold Soderberg to blame much for his recruiting, no BCS 4*-5* or even 3* recruit in his right mind would go to SLU for reasons out of his control. Now that Romar is at Wash, he get's McDonalds All Americans.

  4. Carbondale-Springfield-Omaha, etc:

I would say they all have:

-better, cozier campus basketball facilities (until Chaefetz is

    finished)

-better central located conference with more natural local rivalries

(who wants to play in Rhode Island on a Tuesday night??)

-better recent NCAA tournament participation / track record

-MAYBE some softer courses for marginal athletes (I am not sure but

I'll bet some of them have PE or health management/cake courses

    -MOSTLY friendlier-type campuses

-football at SOME, even though not "big time"

SIGNIFICANT STUFF; not deal breakers, but important.

  5. Lousy facilities, no TV, campus is not very attractive, no football, questionable conference 1000 miles away, no PE-basket weaving courses for dummies (like MU), no winning tradition, no BCS, etc.

    Not "excuses".

    "REALITY"!

You are all dreaming thinking we're gonna get some big JC PF's out of nowhere to come next year to play with TL and KL.

If you do not think this is REALITY, tell me, for example, how would you have "spun" Stremmler to SLU as opposed to Indiana, that has "positives" for all of the above, if you are so smart, smarter than Soderberg? Can someone tell me, please, what you would have told him to persuade him to SLU?

  6. But Sluser is right.

No SLU girl that came from a small catholic high school (with a graduating class of 31 girls) would dare dress like that and pose like that or they would go to hell... at least, that is what Sister James Marie convinced 'em.

SO Suggs, Brandenberg, etc... to Oregon, Florida...

(Courtside... is this a legitimate recruiting excuse or not, you know all this stuff)

  7. Hey I wish I was optimistic like you but seriously we have two quality players and that is it.

This year we had three, V disappeared in the middle of the season and even worse Lisch missed several games and could not shoot for several others because of the web-hand injury. Done, game over. No margin for error.

So losing V, I cannot see improving. Recruits? I doubt any will put us over the top, still will be too small, cannot win with Polk at PG, Luke is a fighter but a propotype / stereotype SLU small-forward-when-we-need-a-power-forward.

No big time quality, not even a few guys in to help with size and muscle, no PE courses for them like MU, Gonzaga, etc... (hello, "Courtside").

SO we will be small again next year, struggle, hope, and pray.

Get real, in '08 guys like Suggs will not come to SLU with Florida, etc, courting them, telling them about NCAA Final Four and NBA.

We got lucky once, Larry Hughes had a personal reason to stay here, other than that, we have little hope for big time help next year or the next.

  8. Courtside:

The academic issue IS a factor, not the ONLY factor, but a big one in their situation: no PE / cake courses.

Obviously, a west coast McDonalds All American would take Stanford (Pac-10 / BCS, football school, superior campus, superior athletic facilities, winning tradition, California weather, etc.) over SLU.

BUT when we need a few muscle kids to compement V, TL, and KL, we cannot get 'em. Wouldn't a certain 6'9" 260lb. power forward at Mizzou have looked good at SLU the last 2 yrs, just what we needed. He is studying to be a "personal trainer".

    JC transfers? No chance.

It is tough getting out of the hole, and SLU is in deep trouble.

Would be nice if a few power forwards could get in to help the big three, now the big two.

Yep, Stanford and Vandy (SEC) and a few others have made it... but they have other advantages as well.

  9. Gonzaga has a PE major.

    Look it up.

You can go there and study to be a gym teacher, take "Roller Skating 101".

Cannot do that at SLU, correct?

But everyone says "if Gonzaga can do it..."

SLU cannot ever get those key 2-3 guys into school that can provide muscle up front because they cannot hide them like MOST schools can.

  10. Courtside:

I GET IT... but you've only "mentioned" a few privates, GT, VD, and Marquette.

It is the reason Duke cannot compete in football, cannot get 60 knucklehads in school for a sport like that...

But SLU is always compared to MU, MO State, SIU-Carbondale, etc, and they CAN hide athletes when necessary.

AND I suspect that some of the privates have hiding spots, I do not question VD and GT for the most part. Who knows what goes on at Gonzaga, etc, I have to wonder, I do not claim to know.

BUT we all know about MU, etc.

  11. Again, does SLU have "cake" courses like MU, where you can hide athletes that cannot survive their standard curriculum, e.g. Kalen Grimes, personal trainer of the future?

Yep, maybe J. Noah at Florida is smart, but I bet they have several players hiding in PE-land. That is what I am saying... and asking.

THE KEY is being able to hide 3-4 guys that you need that cannot cut it in accounting, etc... my oservation is SLU cannot but a lot of other schools, even with good academics, CAN hide them.

Do we really know if goddam Gonzaga (always used as example to disparage SLU) has PE type courses for those that cannot cut it??

  12. These academic rankings are MUCH less reliable than RPI or coaches polls, which as we all know have issues.

BUT the MAIN ISSUE to me is that SLU has integrity of academics and does not have the "flexibility" to accomodate marginal athletes that some schools have... like PE majors for athletes.

I know the Mizzou guys hate this, but they just do not call it "PE" anymore, they have re-named PE, and other lightweight courses, sounds better.

Perfect example, I this year I believe SLU needed, more than anything, a "banger" or two to complement "V", Liddel, and Lisch.

Two 6'9" 260 pounders, just score 6-8ppg, get 6-8 rebounds per game, and clog the middle, give us deeper rotation.

Good one would be MU's K. Grimes... not a star, but SLU never gets guys like that... my understanding is that he is taking some sort of Health Management major and wants to be a "personal trainer".

My question is to you all, do not even many schools ranked ahead of SLU have majors that SLU does not offer for their "athletes"... you cannot tell me Florida (for example)doesn't have some spots for their football and basketball team like that... and they are ranked ahead of SLU.

    True or not?
