  1. "And you can back-up your comments how............

    a) You were on the search committee for Iowa and Creighton

    B) You read it on their schools blogs

    c) You heard from a friend of a friend who knows the AD's"

    http://www.globegazette.com/articles/2007/...ab528022334.txt

that link is for the iowa job, if you want more resources; in which there are countless, just google 'majerus and iowa'... and the creighton job, he was ready to take it, but their head coach decided not to leave nebraska for arkansas....

"Be real and realize that even if what you post is true and he turned down Iowa, Creighton and other D-1 jobs, why would he take the SLU job?"

Because, it is more than obvious that he wants to coach at a jesuit college... and that is VERY evident in his rejection of: usc, iowa, etc... and SLU will be a very successful program with the right guidance,..... and majerus would fill the void oh so perfectly.

  2. i disagree... once again, have you considered soderberg doing something wrong or unethical; in which, meritted his firing... and the university is protecting his reputation despite this. but, even if that is not the case, when a business fires an employee, the employer does NOT have to give a reason to the public, muchless the employee himself for the particular layoff. Its over, whats done is done... onward and forward.. bring on majerus!!

  3. "From what I have read there is no way he could take the grind of being a HC from a physical point."

"With his poor health, work ethic, and years out of coaching, this would be a terrible hire."

And.... thats why more successful programs such as iowa offered him the big bucks to take over their program in earlier this month... in addition to creighton, who was ready to hire him before their head coach decided to reject arkansas' offer.. trust me on this, many.. actually tons of DI programs would love to have majerus as their head coach for a variety of reasons, and SLU would be VERY privileged to have him on board.

  4. maybe they are hiding something that soderberg has done in order to preserve his reputation as being such a "great guy"... if that is the case (which i think it is), biondi does NOT deserve all the crapp he is getting,.. but even if that proves to be untrue, biondi never deserves to be bad mouthed by anybody in the stl area (especially bernie).. biondi has done SO much for the university AND most importantly the city of stl... i believe he has the jurisdiction to do basically whatever the hell he wants to do because almost all of his moves have proved to be very successful and positive.

  5. okedokee... errr, i'll remember that... but no matter how great of a person he is, the bottomline is a winning record will not get it done anymore.... and trust me on this, there were more successful coaches than soderberg who got the axe this year,.. and by the way, every DI or even collegiate coach "does everything they can to make it work"... and also, what "positive direction" are you talking about???? i had no idea no postseason tournaments for the past 2 years, and lousy recruiting constituted our program being headed in a "positive direction".... if you want to see true injustice in college basketball, just take a look at stan heath's firing from arkansas, or tubby smith being run out of kentucky....

  6. I hope Brad Soderberg was dealing heroin out of his office.

    Or sleeping with a student.

Or embezzling cash from his budget.

Or at least drinking Natural Light at a college party.

Because short of a scandal like that the timing of his Tuesday firing makes no sense, and I refuse to believe the Saint Louis University administration is dumb enough to wait until six weeks after the season to remove its coach and start a search for a replacement smack-dab in the middle of a recruiting period.

    How crazy is the timing?

According to research done by the St. Louis Post Dispatch's Vahe Gregorian (I'm into giving credit where credit is due), only one other Division I coach in the past five years was fired after April 15. That casualty was Iowa State's Larry Eustachy, and it took pictures of him with a can of beer in his hand and a young lady on his arm at a college party to make that happen.

In other words, this is unprecedented if it's not scandal related.

That's why this had better be scandal related.

If it isn't, SLU's administrators should be next to go.

Meanwhile, there's another opening on the coaching carousel.

    Yippie!

I was worried it might end soon, but it won't. And while it's impossible to predict which direction SLU will go given how it was impossible to predict it would go this direction to begin with, some candidates likely to be considered are Western Kentucky's Darrin Horn, Wright State's Brad Brownell, Purdue assistant Cuonzo Martin, Texas A&M assistant Pooh Williamson, former Virginia coach Pete Gillen, former New Mexico coach Fran Fraschilla and former UCLA coach Steve Lavin.

  7. a new chapter in slu basketball... i am so pumped.. if majerus comes on, i have no doubt in my mind that we can be VERY respectable immediately with lisch and liddell leading the way. i am smiling ear to ear baby, ear to f-ing ear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. >"Apparently his health is not an issue now. The question

    >that remains is just how serious he is about returning to

    >coaching. Frank C says that he is a coach and coaches

    >coach. Frank also said that Majereus was ready to take the

    >Creighton job but then Altman changed his mind so that fell

    >through. Frank said that Majereus wanted the job since he

    >was very interested in working for the Jesuits - I guess he

    >has some Jesuit connection. He would be a big name hire but

    >how long he would stay would be the issue. With that being

    >said, so he came and stayed two years - he would have

    >elevated the program nationally and would allow SLU to then

    >hire a new coach from a plus position."

i couldnt have said that better myself...

  9. many people on this board are in the state of mind that our program is heading in the wrong direction and that we are basically screwed for the next few years... but i ask, at what point during the past 2 seasons did you guys believe that we were heading in the right direction? its humorous that the 'pro-brad' crowd (pre firing) often ridiculed the 'anti-brad' crowd with the sentiment that "we have to stay positive" and "brad is going no where"... but now that brad is gone, the 'pro-brad' crowd is more negative than the 'anti-brad' crowd ever was pre brad-firing. i just do not see any negative aspects of this firing other than the untimely fashion of it, but regardless.. it had to be done. brad has left our program.. boring, mediocre, and talent deprived (besides a few players)... geez, i do not see how many of you could not see this coming along time ago. its not the end of the world, soderberg will eventually get over it... and probably become a decent dII coach or a juco coach... its just a better fit for us and for him.

  10. yeah, i highly doubt chaifetz would come in and demand changes... i think this was all biondi. think about it, he went to georgetown and from what i have read he is an avid basketball fan. he was probably spoiled with great basketball teams at georgetown, and he has developed so many other areas of SLU he probably felt that it is time to move onto our bball team. once he saw our dismal recruiting class this spring, coupled with bad news with the class of '08, he knew we had to make a change... i feel bad for soderberg, but he obviously was not the right man for the job, and i have said this once and i will say it again, he is probably a better assistant coach than a head coach.. at least on the DI level. goodluck to him though, he seemed like a decent guy, but that is not enough to justify furthering his time any longer here at slu. lets just wait this thing out.. change is not always bad,.. and i have a feeling we will all be smiling ear to ear come tournament time next spring (i know, i know.. way optimistic, but why not?).. grace & peace

  11. as we all know, biondi is ALL about business. just take a quick glance at the drastic improvements he has made to the SLU campus and reputation during his time at SLU. he knows that collegiate national attention is very dependant on athletics. in SLU's case, we have no football team, so we are in dire need of a very competitive men's basketball program. as rash as this decision might appear, it was necessary. with biondi's businessman like approach in mind, do you guys/gals really anticipate biondi not using or finding the necessary money to hire a 'frontline' head coach? biondi is not stupid, as much as many people hate to realize or admit, he knows what he is doing. it would be bad business to fire a coach who was mostly liked and respected around the slu community, and replace him with a 'no name' coach (or a coach of lesser value). it is easy to be sour with the firing of soderberg, but in the wake of 5 seasons of mediocrity, this decision was better suited sooner rather than later. to seriously think biondi will allow money to get into his way of finding a head coach that can lead us to respectability, recognizability, and beyond... is almost senseless when considering the public pressure being put on biondi to get this thing figured out.

One other thing... where do ya'll think soderberg will go from here?

  12. "Because he is the head coach and the face of the team. HE WILL BE FOR THE NEXT 12 MONTHS AT LEAST. Not a damn thing any of us can do about it. You can either whine about it constantly which is your favorite thing to do or you can support the team and hope for the best."

Being critical or calling for a coaching change does not mean that one does not "support his team"... in fact, I think it is more supportive than accepting the status quo as you are endorsing. In all reality, our coach has done nothing to merit support from us... especially with the past 2 years ending with no postseason. Even if he does remain here for 2 more years, we will only be silenced by postseason appearances.

  13. ""In fact, I'm saying that the people who were kicked out are better than you and should be allowed to return."

i would guess that mkia is one of the people kicked out and now is back with a new moniker and e-mail address."

nope, you couldnt be more wrong... just because i disagree with you on certain things doesnt mean you should constantly take cheap shots at me.

  14. "He will be telling everybody that will listen to him about all the money that is going to pay off the debt on the new building and thus no funds are avalible for what needs to be done to capitalize off the new building."

What???? Why does Soderberg need more money in order to recruit? Wasnt the new arena supposed to be the focal point of Soderberg's recruitment process? I just have no idea on what point you are trying to get across...

  15. "Because he is a better recruiter than they had previously.

His style of recruiting was more effective at Wash. It's

easier to get west coast recruits to stay on the west coast. Did he get juco's? If he did they probably transferred in

easier than they could at slu."

It is not very difficult to transfer into slu from a juco or a community college... just to let ya know.
