  1. I'm under the impression that this issue was all Durando's doing.

Are you saying that they were going to wait to announce the hire until a later date? Like after the NIT wrapped up to make it seem as though Drew was a real possibility.

  2. I will support the team. I think this is a bad selection from a PR standpoint. We just had a coach who demoralized the fanbase and now we hire a guy who did the same to his fans (see twitter reaction from OSU people if you doubt me). Why not hire an up and coming coach and/or assistant who came from a winning program? It would give fans hope.

  3. I don't know the triggering event...it could have been a simple no (as in I changed my mind)...it could have been ....I can't make a decision now ( as in let's wait 2 days or more ) or it could have been let's negotiate some more ( as in we agreed to this but I want to make some changes ...remember their are agents involved)...I don't know what the trigger event was but once it happened we moved on....quickly

Wiz, so are your sources telling you that Ford is definitely our new coach?

  4. I have said in a number of posts , it was his job unless he refused. This happrned once before with Iowa St. He "turned them down" or did he? Many think Iowa St either turned him down or didn't want to get involved in a long negotiation ..so they moved on. In this case like the Iowa St case we will really never know what exactly happened. Time to move on

Wiz, did someone tell you this or is it your own intuition?

  5. -I stepped back and looked where I was a month ago and that was doubting a change would be made, so big step #1 was taken and I appreciate it

-that being said, I really think almost anyone is an upgrade from where we were

-if Ford can recruit, put the ego aside. learn from his mistakes and have a couple good x and o assistants, we'll be fine

    -we'll see

But that is the problem with hiring Ford. We will have to wait and see - much like many us of said after the 2014-15 season with Crews. Hiring of a new coach usually brings about the feeling of a new start, fresh potential and a sense of optimism and euphoria for the next season. We get none of this with Ford - he was just fired from a job and lambasted by his fan base pretty much the same way we lambasted Crews - nice guy but terrible coach.

  6. We are a laughingstock..

I know that Travis Ford is a national punchline, but considering where Saint Louis is as a program, that's a solid hire.

Travis Ford lit a flaming turd on Oklahoma State's doorstep and somehow got someone to sign up for the same treatment within a week

@jerrymeyer247 how does same school that hired the brilliant Majerus hire the putz Travis Ford?

  7. Per Hoopdirt.com (Nothing really new)

    • On Monday, I mentioned FGCU head coach Joe Dooley and Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings and their involvement at St. Louis (Daily Dirt – 3/21/16). The “hot” name here now is Valparaiso head coach Bryce Drew. His team had a big win last night in the NIT, and he’s now one win away from 30 on the season. The former Valpo star and NBA player is currently 123-48 in his 5-years as the head coach of his alma mater. More on this one as I hear it.
    • Speaking of St. Louis…former Alabama head coach and current Oklahoma City Thunder assistant Anthony Grant’s name has also come up here. BUT, his name has been even stronger at Tulane. In addition to his six seasons at Alabama (118-86), Grant spent three seasons as the head coach at VCU (76-25). It depends who you talk to, but is sounds like Tulane and their search firm Eastman and Beaudine, have a top 2 or 3, and Grant could be in that group. Other names mentioned here: Purdue assistant Greg Gary (a Tulane alum) and Yale head coach James Jones. Apparently CBS Sports’ Doug Gottlieb has expressed some interest as well.
  8. The program might not be but the ceiling for which our program can go based on facilities and league is leaps and bounds higher

Valpo plays in a high schoolesque gym - much like Tom Gola. I believe ductwork is visible, pull out wooden bleachers and a snack stand inside the gym. The facilities difference between SLU and Valpo is night and day.

  9. Around the time Jensen left, I remember reading on here that he quit in part because he did not like the recruiting grind. Is there any reason to even think he would be interested in being the head coach other than people remember that he coached here for a few years?

Also, remember this is a guy who quit on Majerus and a good team about 1 month before the season started and that is how we ended up with JC.

  10. Forbes is one 182.3 but apparently miscalculated on valentine, 176.4. I would also say that the cutoff of 180 is just my recollection, so if whoever posted it before says it is lower I would go but that. However as a yardstick to say someone is an elite shooter, one would not expect to find someone on every team.

Hield on Oklahoma has the highest I have found 185.5

Steph Curry has 187.5 this year. Hield is pretty good.
