  1. From Andy Katz's Daily Word:

    • The MAC meetings are going on in Chicago, and according to a coach in attendance, there was more talk about expanding the league to 14 teams with adding Temple (Atlantic 10 for all sports but football) and Western Kentucky (Sun Belt) as full members. Temple plays a MAC schedule in football and has added MAC nonconference games for basketball. This kind of decision would be made for football, but if they did ever join the league in hoops, it would make this league even tougher and potentially put it in position to earn multiple bids (which hasn't happened since 1999).

Not a move forward for the A-10 if we lose Temple. My biggest fear is that the A-10 will be hot to replace Temple, and won't be very choosy in their replacement.

  2. Well... i'm sure there is some sort of pecking order. It's just not announced publicly in the form of points. I know as a member of All For One that i get some sort of priority in getting tickets, but I have no way of knowing how many people have that opportunity before me or whether it's first come first serve. I suspect you're correct though, the high roller's have better access to tickets.

  3. Outsider's question:

What do the points get you in years where you're not necessarily moving into a new arena. It seems you get priority seat placement at the new stadium, but what does increasing your points gain you next year? We don't do this at Xavier, so I don't understand the system and am curious how it works. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

  4. Just a guess on my part, but payouts are based upon a six-year payout. SLU was not a member of the A-10 during four of the last six years and didn't have a single NCAA appearance during that period. I presume that Charlotte received some credit for their pre-A-10 apperances, while SLU only receives a "non-generating" share of the A-10 payout for last season.

That could be it. I read an article about this recently, but can't remember enough to apply the formula though. I think you're onto something.

Why is SLU only getting 67k? we were curious about that over at Xavierhoops.

  6. XU didn't have any scholarships when this news came out, but the coaching staff and Holloway knew that "Death Wish" Charles Bronson was going to transfer out. He wasn't much of a factor this year and didn't appear to be next year, either.

I'm sorry to see Bronson go and actually thought Graves would be the one to transfer. I'm also not sure where all the guards are going to get playing time. But that's why Miller makes the big bucks and i post on message boards instead. Good pick up for X and the A-10.

  7. Hope not, keeping good young coaches in this conference will be a key to its long-term success. Its nice to see Xavier fending off the BCS prowlers like Marquette. I hope UMass finds a way to do the same.

Ford took his name out of the LSU chase. I'd be surprised if he wanted to go to Providence.

  8. I remember Martin fondly for his days at Purdue as a player. He's been an Assistant for awhile up in West Lafayette. Glad someone's going to give him an opportunity to try the first chair out. I"m sure he'll pick a staff that will increase his ties to the state of Missouri.

  9. Lavender said yesterday that he will probably play. Nothing is certain, though, and I would imagine they are more concerned about having him healthy when March 20 rolls around. They can beat other A10 teams without him, but they won't go anywhere in the Dance without him.

The word around xavier fans is that Lavender will in fact play tomorrow. Honestly, nobody but Lavender and Miller will know until game time.

  10. I haven't read any of the posts in this thread besides the first but i was told today by a friend of mine who is a student at slu that has a class with DM that for the first time ever he was not wearing SLU basketball gear today just throwing that out there

Is anyone concerned that other coaches might use Majerus' decision not to renew scholarships against him on the recruiting trail? Just an observation from an outsider.

  11. Please...nobody give any money to CSTV. That company will not get another dime of my money. If they are streaming on CSTV, I'm sure Dunga will have the direct links on the A-10 board or they will be available at channelsurfing.net. I will be watching in my office.

Good point. I'll probably just wait until it's posted on the A-10 boards and then try to sync up the video as best i can with the radio feed.

  12. I hate that. Our filter here is sensitive, but fortunately not THAT sensitive.

Looks like it's $9.95 per game.

Will that link allow me to listen to SLU play by play? I'd like to watch the game, but without the Dayton announcers if at all possible. Good luck Billikens. Look forward to playing you guys again in the second round.

  13. In the XU game it looks like local boy Alex Moosman might have had a pretty good defensive game. He played 34 min, 5 points, 0 reb, and 0 ast. But, him and Hayes held Burrell and Lavender to a combined 13 points, 5 ast, and seven rebounds in a total of 72 minutes.

Miami of Ohio played well last night. Hayes (or Haynes can't remember) did a great job. He was very quick and disrupted Lavender's game flow all night. I can't give him that much credit on stopping Burrell. Stanley does a good job of making himself ineffective with his shot selection. Miami deserved to win that one, and really no excuse for Xavier losing.

  14. Fordham plays at Mizzou and St. Joes at Syracuse. Both games are part of tournaments where the hosts are expected to win so that they can get to the semis with 3 other big name teams. Hopefully the conference can pull a surprise or two and piss of the organizers.

Xavier plays a road game against Miami of Ohio that would be a nice win.

This is the time of year when conference RPIs are determined.

Xavier seems to struggle at Millet Hall. But after seeing them play in person Saturday night, I'm confident in a Xavier Victory. I expect St. Joe's has a decent chance of beating Syracuse as well. A nice little night of College Basketball in November.
