  1. This type of question makes me wonder about the writer's credentials. Sure, SLU is the most logical team to want to cut loose... new building, more money committed to the program, higher ranked non-conference opponents that help the league RPI and one of the most widely respected and well-known coaches in the nation (much less the A-10).... Yeah, thats the team I want gone from this leauge. GEESH

Exactly what I thought. Why single out SLU?

  2. From CollegeChalktalk

"CCT — Are there any imminent plans for conference membership changes? Saint Louis is a team that comes to mind.

Commissioner McGlade – Well, I would only say to you that hopefully there are no changes in our membership makeup. Two big things when you come into a position in a conference office as a commissioner are that you want to preserve your conference membership and you want to protect your conference revenue distribution and championship opportunities. They are things that are always on my radar and I would hope that we do not have any movement in that regard. Saint Louis is a great university and a great member of this conference. Hopefully we are going to stay strong together as a league and get better as we move forward. "

  3. Actually, he said he'd rather play SLU over Dayton. You've got it the other way around.

Dayton and Xavier have shared conference affiliation since 1988.

X and UD have played around 137 times over an 85 year or so history (i'm not sure how up to date i am). They are a definite rivalry. There's a split on how much the rivalry really matters. You're either for it or against it. There is a segment of the xavier fan population that considers the season a good year as long as we beat UD. I'm not in the segment.

  4. No offense, but you would gladly kick out much of the league to get us. The main reason being to ensure you don't lose the Bluejays.

Count me as one Xavier fan who would rather play SLU every year in a home and home instead of UD. The only way we get back to that is if the conference splits off into divisions.

  5. Dayton, Charlotte, and Fordham

I'm upset that we can't seem to get a home and home between X and SLU.

    Here's X's A-10 tilt:

Xavier, the 2007-08 A-10 Regular Season Champ, will play home and away series against Charlotte, Dayton and Fordham. The home slate includes match ups against George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Saint Louis and Temple.

The Musketeers will travel to Duquesne, Rhode Island, Richmond, Saint Bonaventure and Saint Joseph’s.

So i guess i don't get to see the new building this year. I was looking forward to the trip to SLU.

  6. The other advantage is that the Indiana border is minutes away from Cincinnati, so it's positioned like Illinois to us. Indiana might only be a couple hours away from STL, but it's still enough distance where it gets tougher to pick away kids when all the big schools there (IU, Purdue, ND, Butler), the smaller DI programs in Indiana, as well as some of the Ohio and Illinois schools are also competing. SLU would have more problems convincing kids to go an extra few hours away from home when there are so many other options that close by.

Angres Thorpe was at Ball State for a while, so I don't know what his pipelines were like to the state. He seemed to have a lot more connections to the Chicago area, which is home for him. I'm not aware of many solid Indiana connections with the current staff.

True. Though Cincy is two hours away from Central Indiana on up.

  7. Alcorn and MVS are HBCU schools, are they not? Can't see brad landing there. That would leave only one spot and I can't see them coming for him either. I'm from PA and don't even know where St. Francis is located. Pretty far down the redemption road if you ask me.

The only thing i know about St. Francis (Pa) is that they are one of the schools available when you start a "legacy" in College Hoops 2k8.

Might be time to consider an assistant coaching gig. Ohio St. is hiring.

  8. Why do you think SLU hasn't been able to infiltrate the state of Indiana for recruits like other schools? I would think with Majerus' connection to the state, that there would be some interest. It seems like Matta (and then Miller) established some roots for X (and OSU). Thoughts?

  9. "The 6-foot-10, 270-pound Bailey has played in just nine games in two years, averaging 1.1 points and 0.9 rebounds He has two blocked shots and one steal. He played his high school ball at Passaic County Tech in Wayne, N.J. and then prepped at The Patterson (N.C.) School."

Looks like Kellog has his first "get' from Memphis. I've notice many of the A-10 schools are starting to put some size on their rosters.

  10. Agree.

By the way, was bored and stopped in at the Duquense message board a few weeks ago - some of the clowns on that site were actually comparing their incoming class with the Fab 5. Finally, a couple of their own posters brought the majority down to reality. It does look like a good class, but come on!

Yeah... the Duq board seems to think they've turned the corner. Of course if you go to that board at this time of year every year, they always seem to feel that way.

  11. I don't know why you think X likes us so much. Why were we included with the likes of LaSalle and St.B's as a "who would you like to see out of the A-10". Evidently, the post originator thinks we must be one of the lower rung programs. Hell, he didn't even list Duquense. And before we get on our high horse about St. B's, I'd like to remind everyone St. Welding Tech has a two game win streak against us.

As the originator of the post over at XH, I put St. Louis in only because there is a small contigency of fans who feel it's too far west to be in the A-10. That line of thought only works in my mind if Xavier and UD are also "too far west". I was just throwing some options out there.

  12. We should just accept the fact that we are in a crappy conference instead of advocating for the ouster of any of the schools. I couldn't imagine any school leaving the Valley for the A-10 at this point in time - Creighton and Bradley are perfectly happy where they are.

Oh, and we're 1-2 against Bonawelding since joining the A-10, not 0-2.

    Correct:

    03/01/08 BONA 70 SLU 50

    01/03/07 SLU 69 BONA 74

    01/03/06 BONA 58 SLU 60

    11/30/02 BONA 54 SLU 56

    01/03/01 BONA 63 SLU 76

  13. I agree that SLU will probably spend at least several years in the A10. How are "we" going to kick two schools out of this league and convince Creighton and Bradley to join? It might sound pretty good to us, but it also has to sound good to a lot of other schools.

I have a hard time believing that the old guard of the conference will want to move that far west with any new members to get two games their fans won't come to the arena to see. The philly five could care less about playing Creighton or Bradley.

  14. Not sure why Temple would want to join the MAC. It doesn't seem like a geographic fit and they are leaving several conference rivals in the same city. I would imagine the fans wouldn't be too pleased with the decision. Perhaps they are looking to scale back their athletic commitment?

Or they may be in danger of losing their football affiliation?
