  1. I had the chance to watch the Billikens for the first time this year over the holiday. They looked incredibly polished for this point in the season (a time in which many other teams are not). Should be a very good A-10 team and I suspect a sleeper in the NCAA? Nice to see the revival (even if it is one year later than expected).

  2. X fan said this was coming. Not too surprising given that. I think this will be an interesting change for Xavier .... I don't recall them having a whole lot of kids leaving, more like kids coming in (Crawford, that diminutive PG from the Big 12 as I recall, the current kid from the East Coast). And these were two "Top 100" recruits once again (everyone knows my rankings rants). Nothing neither here nor there, just an interesting difference in he Mack regime.

The only thing interesting to this story was that the players went on Twitter and denied they were leaving... Anyhow, X has to fill two open scholarships.

  3. Scout has reported that Canty and Latham are transferring...probably because Wells is sick...

Also, Justin Martin, a Top 50 recruit last year, was declared ineligible for his freshman season (due to grades, I think). He will become eligible next season, adding to Xavier's ample arsenal...

Plus, their sharpshooter Redford comes back from an ACL tear...

Latham has come out on twitter and said he's not transferring FWIW. Not sure about Canty at this point either. It would not surprise me if both transferred.

  4. Maybe they weren't doing what he asked, but I've seen more structured play in the rec.

I remember Sean Miller wanted to bring him in at X to be an assistant or Director of Basketball Operations. Apparently X has a no nepostism rule, and it wasn't allowed. This could either be a great hire for UD, or a bad one.

It does alarm me more than some other hires. If he turns out to be as good as Sean was at X, the whole conference could be in trouble. Guess we will wait and see.

  5. This guy couldn't recruit in the ACC with a program located in one of the most glamorous cities in the world.

I guess MU's program is just too good for Kim Anderson.

That's an interesting .... development for Mizzou?

When I looked at this thread I had to pause and place Frank Haith. Good luck to the Tigers.

Have they run Alden out of town yet?

  6. Amazing how a crappy coach can find his way into an ACC job if he gets a little lucky.

I wonder if Staten will think about returning to Dayton now that Gregory is gone.

How is he any better than Hewitt? Maybe the GT AD thought, "If I can't get one A-10 Coach (Mooney) I'll just substitute another? They're interchangeable right?"

  7. Here is the latest

Hard to say how this affects basketball. If they add only 2 more football do they also add 2 in basketball to form a 20 team league? Are they content at 18?

If Villanova is one of the 2 "added" in football then they would only need one more. Do they go find one basketball only school (Xavier) to make it an 18 team league?

Now for the Kshoe sarcastic rant: if people really think the basketball only schools currently in the Big East, which are addicted to the money from that conference and won't even give us a home and home because it cuts into their revenue, are going to "follow SLU's lead" in trying to form a new league, then they should have their head examined.

We should hope that in whatever reshuffling that results from this:

    1) Xavier and Dayton don't ditch us

    2) By some miracle the basketball only schools break off we are attractive enough an option and the size of the league isn't too small so that the first picks (Xavier and Dayton) don't take the only open spots.

I believe that UC would attempt to block X coming to the Big East.

  8. whatever the cost of lessening the effectiveness of street agents and aau scums (not all aau guys are scum but enough of them) is well worth it.

So if that means Majerus can't recruit outside of a one state radius on a consistent basis, you're ok with that? I'm all for reducing the influence of Agents, Runners, and AAU scam artists. But there has to be way that doesn't seriously limit non-football schools ability to recruit.

  9. From things I have read in the past, it seems that Dayton and X also prefer to play us twice each year so this is a tough conf schedule but overall a good thing for us.

I prefer to play SLU home and home.

    1. There's no reason they shouldn't (UD, X, and SLU are the three closest "western schools").

    2. I enjoy my trips to SLU and I'm anxious to check out the arena.

  10. My guess is Marquette, Butler, Creighton, and Bradley all do fine financially.

More seriously however, the always talked about All Catholic/Private league is the only good thing for SLU that can come out of a major blow up of the current conference format. Anything else would not have the same benefits of the A-10.

I'll grant you Marquette. I'm not sure about Butler, Creighton, or Bradley (though I truthfully don't know much about Bradley).

I just haven't seen any proposal for a new league that is more beneficial than the Atlantic 10 for the schools involved.

  11. The lineup in our waning days in the MCC was actually pretty decent:

    SLU

    Butler

    Dayton

    Detroit

    Evansville

    Loyola Chicago

    Marquette

    Xavier

Switch out DePaul for Loyola and maybe Creighton for Evansville and you've got a nice lineup.

I just don't see that as a conference that anyone will pay attention to though. The A-10 gets some benefit from being in those East-Coast markets, media wise.

  12. backed out of draft along with YouDee's Chris Wright. So only Jordan Crawford leaves the A10 earlky?

Richmond looks strong, but losing Butler and Gonzalvez will hurt some. They seem to be the preseason bet. Temple lost a lot in Brooks, but Dunphy is good. Xavier tends to reload but wihtout Crawford and Love, I don't know? Might take them a wg=hile to find and define themselves. I know Dayton lost a lot of bodies and practically the whole backcourt. Can a frshman take over? Sure --- but is Staten John Wall? Rhode Island lost Ulmer and Cothran --- big shoes to fill. That leaves us as returning almost the whole team from a fourth place finisher.

Richmond. Temple. Xavier. Saint Louis. We will have both Temple and Xavier on the road next year.

Anderson has my early vote for pre-season A-10 POY.

  13. I have a feeling this conference will happen next year as an "aftershock" to the big changes that will come this year. My predictions on its members:

    Marquette

    SLU

    Dayton

    DePaul

    Xavier

    Butler

    Belmont

    Creighton

    Drake

    Bradley

Charlotte (temporary - 2 yrs or until football program is established)

I hope not... I see X, SLU, and UD carrying that league financially. That's not a good deal.
