  1. There is no doubt in my mind we are going to win this game against Xavier. I think I speak for the other 10 BLUE CREWers going when I say: I refuse to drive 12 hours in one day for a 2 hour game to see us lose.

Oh, and I can't WAIT to mess with Mario again...I wonder what the clinical title is for "fear of flags"...

  2. I don't know how the GW coach did not get a technical fouled on him. He was yelling at the referees and he spent more time on the court than any of his starters. I heard he was thrown out of GW's last game...as he should have been.

A few things that stick out in my mind from the game:

    1. Bryce looked strong and confident under the basket. I guess he's starting to feel that competition with Knollmeyer for IV's place next year. The BLUE CREW section was talking about how we think that game was the first time we'd ever tried chanting his name (it still felt weird doing it haha).

    2. WE MADE OUR FREE THROWS! You have all been witnesses to how we've lost games because of free throws. They were on point yesterday (especially KL)...way to be.

    3. I liked the quote from the Post this morning about KL: about as long as they have gauze, tape, gum, etc. he will be there.

  3. >What's the point in watching anymore?

To see them beat Xavier in their own house next Wednesday...don't tell me we're going to lose...we've got 10 CREWers going to cheer on our boys. It was one point...granted, we shouldn't have been in that hole to begin with, but such is college basketball...it can be unpredictable.

You can rest soundly knowing that we're gonna beat GW on Saturday (since they're a good team and apparently we can always win those). Just being optimistic...sorry, is it too early for that in the day? :)

  4. The only word I can use to describe that gym is "PHENOMENAL"!! I'm an avid gym-goer and the fact that we had 4 treadmills for 7000 people confused me. I have been there everyday since. I'm in love.

To tie this in with basketball, I do have an amusing antecdote (to me at least): On Friday a few minutes before the ribbon-cutting, I saw Jan from Humphrey's walking in with Anthony Bonner and I think his mom. Either way, I said hi to Jan and talked to her for a second. As they start to walk away, Jan turned to Bonner and says, "This is Diane, she's President of the Blue Crew!" I puffed up a little bit...but I was quickly deflaited when Bonner--with a very confused look on his face--replied, "What's the Blue Crew?" Jan then said, "BLUE CREW! Yeah!" As they started to go down the steps to the new extension, Bonner again asked her, "What's the Blue Crew?" I'm not sure he ever got an answer...

  5. Tonight (Tuesday), the BLUE CREW is having a general member meeting to talk about the rest of the semester, etc. The freshmen from the women's team as well as the freshmen from the men's team are going to be there to tell us how things are going and answer some questions. I know I'm gonna get a lot of joke questions on this, but do you guys have any questions you want us to ask them?

  6. Their team is obviously still growing. This is the first year that the women's team has really been able to bring in a competitive recruiting class (no offense to the non-freshmen players), and next year's is going to be even better. If you notice, a lot of their losses are only by 2 or 6 points. I suggest you all go to more women's games. They are consistent in that they try hard every play, fighting with heart and throwing themselves around to make things happen. Besides that, Shimmy is a phenomenal coach. She has really brought something out of these players that had always been there but never been reached before. She's doing big things.

Mark my words: next year, the women's basketball team is going to be an A-10 powerhouse.

  7. Bernie said:

"And what about next season? Vouyoukas will be gone, replaced (apparently) by the little-used Bryce Husak. Liddell and Lisch will be flanked by pretty much the same nondescript cast of supporting players."

He says BH is going to take over, but what about AK? I think we've all seen his potential. He has strength and can have a lot of power when he goes to the basket, he just needs a bit more experience.

And what does he call LM and DP? If we didn't have one of them, we would be really screwed...especially without LM.

The other thing is what explanation do we have for why we were so good 2 months ago and bad now? Did Brad all of a sudden become a bad coach over the last 4 weeks?

  8. I can't see why they would ever call a press conference to give their support to Brad because that would only stir up more of this talk. I think we all have seen in the past when a topic starts to come to a head (like last year's thing about Tommie Liddell leaving for the NBA), they do not give it more press as not to fuel the fire.

If there is in fact a press conference, it must have nothing to do with replacing the coaching staff or trying to kill said rumors...in my opinion at least.

  9. This is the FIRST DRAFT of what I proposed for the internal marketing position in the Athletic Department (many things would be added to it):

o Working with the Saint Louis University Athletic Department to develop a strategic plan for internal marketing.

o Serving as the liaison between the Saint Louis University Athletic Department and the Student Government Association, Student Activities Board, Fraternities and Sororities, and student organizations.

o Serving as the liaison between the Saint Louis University Athletic Department and the Office of Student Life.

o Serving as the liaison between the Saint Louis University Athletic Department and on-campus news and media outlets (e.g. KSLU, University News, SLU TV).

o Serving as advisor and resource to the student spirit organizations (e.g. Blue Crew, Legion 1818).

o Working with student organizations and the Office of Student Life to create activities and events aimed at creating awareness and attendance at athletic competitions.

o Working with Alumni Relations to comprise a working e-mail and mailing list of Alums who would like to continue their involvement in Billiken Athletics post-graduation.

o Creating open communication as well as strong and lasting bonds between the Athletic Department and general student population.

o Promoting athletic events to all Saint Louis University students through on-campus promotions (e.g. signs, tailgates, pep rallies).

o Helping to build on the current "Traditions" page on SLUBillikens.com to include stories about past Billiken teams and their accomplishments (e.g. an Online Hall of Fame)

o Serving as the Saint Louis University Athletic Department’s voice and presence at SLU 101 sessions as well as any other incoming student events to promote athletics and to obtain new student season ticket holders.

o Developing promotions to take place during athletic events aimed at creating student interest and attendance.

o Keeping ex-student athletes connected to the current student body through organized events and updates.

    P.S. Thanks Billiken_Roy ;)
