  1. According to the Notre Dame site SLU will play Iowa State on the 27th and then the winner of the Notre Dame/Northwestern game on the 28th. With those four schools hosting first and second round games.

First I just wanted to know who is SLU playing for sure. It would make my life easier if they play Iowa State first...lol.

Second is the fix in or what? How can they guarantee these will be the final four teams when they are saying there are going to be first and second round games. Something very fishy is going on here...lol

  2. Brad Beal is a difference maker. He is the type of kid that can come in from day one and change the game. The big question in regards to SLU would be - Would he have that opportunity? If they only need one scholarship his year that means they should be a veteran laden team, and he is the type of player that should be starting from Day 1 as a freshman, assuming he keeps progressing at this rate. Every tournament he has been in this season he has played in the championshp game and at the very least made the all tournament team and that is high school or in the summer. He has been selected to tryout for the U16 National team when he is young enough for the U15 team and he has an excellent shot of making the team. When the rankings come out he should be considered at the very least a top twenty player if not higher. He has the work ethic and personality to not only be a consensus all american but just maybe a national player of the year. Bottom line he is a winner.

Personally I think SLU should work their tales off to recruit him. Work every angle and get it done, because it is a recruiting trip you make on your way home from work. It doesn't cost them anything to recruit the kid it is simple and easy make sure he has tickets to every game access to every practice and just throw the doors open to him to build that relationship. It is not like they have to go to Minnesota to see him and plus you have a whole city of people constantly in his ear about SLU not to mention all of the sports loving Catholics. To me to recruit him and to do it aggressively is a no brainer. Now if SLU gets a verbal from a kid that they have a high regard for then they need to accept it and still recruit Beal. Because I am pretty sure they can figure out some sort of scholarship to give somebody or they can just take one away from a current player to make room for Beal, because from what I can tell he is the type of player you want on your squad he is a difference maker. One last thing it doesn't matter what UNC Florida Mizzou and so on have done will do or could do you just preach what Saint Louis University CAN and WILL do to make Brad the best player he can.

  3. Somebody mentioned SLU not recruiting kids they don't think they can get, but they never really did anything to recruit Beal. Sending a graduate assistant out to watch one of his games is more to get Billiken fans excited at the thought of getting a player SLU could really care less about getting. a GA are they serious, Billy Donovan, Bill Self, Bruce Weber, and SLU sends a GA.

  4. Nate. Can't (shouldn't) have it both ways. If "park just like everyone else" and if you have expenses like other vendors, then go ahead and charge your fees. While you're at it, do your own marketing. Here, unlike other websites and publications, you come on this Board and, like Roy says, start a teasing post yourself. IMO, you should not have been able to do that. Next time, have someone else start the post, then you can post that you have info but that it's on your premium site. Doing it all yourself looks bad.

So are you saying it would be better for me to come on here and say I know there is at least one kid that is going to transfer and another kid that is going to be forced out. I am sure Nate will have some information on that later since i told him about the possibility a couple of weeks ago.

Or I should come on the board and say that one of the non black players is disgruntled with the way things are going with the offense and he wishes coach would try something different I am sure Nate will have something more on this later.

Or any of the other things that I hear about that I pass on to specific people to look into. Just so they don't come on to the website to do some self promotion?

From what I understand this is just the tip of the iceberg. But if I were to post that then people would say you are just hating on SLU because you are a Mizzou and Notre Dame fan.

I will finish this and clean it up later I must get to school. Go Adam's High School Soar Eagles!

  5. Does St. Louis have an orange Julius location? I love those things

The more I read that the more I have no idea what comparison I was trying to make. I think I meant to talk about South Bend being as dull as possible and somehow my brain translated that to Chicago... You know a comparison is poor when the writer doesnt even have any idea what is going on!

This rumored game, is it for the 2009-2010 season or the 2010-2011 season?

Also, I heard a commercial on the radio here about an auction for coaches vs. cancer and a golf outing to follow. Rick Majerus' name was in the commercial but I missed a part of it and did not know if he would be here or just something of his is at the auction? I know he is a tough man to track but does anyone with connections have any idea if he is going to be in attendance for this event? I would love to attend if I could play some golf with RM for a day

South Bend is my new boring hometown. What do people do for fun here?

  6. I grew up in south bend and have seen first hand the migration from SB to Chicago. We should have our own neighborhood there by now - like a really boring Chinatown! But honestly, if you have been to SB you cant blame us for heading to the city...

Hey watch it there that is my new boring hometown that you are talking about.

  7. I thought I remember reading or hearing that SLU and Notre Dame were supposed to play each other next season. Originlly I heard it was going to be at ND but then I heard it got moved to Chicago. Is there any truth to this or was I just dreaming?

  8. Someone close to the program told me that Eshaunte Jones, one of the top unsigned recruits in the class of 2008, was in town checking out the program over the weekend.

I think he was at the Elite Camp. The kid can score, it will be interesting if that is the case. Almost like Majerus is lining up his next group of kids that he might suggest get their education elsewhere.

  9. I just hope Norte Dame has a great year this coming season. Then we can look forward to the Post assigning two reporters to the Hansbrough family beat. We could have a special Hansbrough section in the paper during the tournament. Not stop Hansbrough coverage from around the country.

    Edit

That won't work Ben has to sit out next year. At least we know the Post has a coverage option for the next two seasons after Tyler "graduates".

I hope so because the South Bend Tribune SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. I'm sorry, but I can't agree with that. I sat with Derek Thomas (WIU's former coach) for the past three weekends and had many a long conversation about Josh well before that article was written.

The reason WIU kept Josh to his LOI the first year was cause he told WIU so late that he wasn't coming. There was no way they could fill that scholarship. Derek also felt that Josh was "tampered" with by some other programs.....

There was NO way that the new coach was going to hold Josh to his LOI for the second year. If he had, he would not have been able to use that scholarship on a new player.....meaning he would have only 12 scholarship players instead of 13. What new coach would want to hold a kid to an LOI that he never recruited and never has a chance to have play.....none.

WIU would have been releasing Josh to go elsewhere regardless of any article written. It would have made no sense to try to hold him to his LOI another year and forfeit the scholarship.....the new coach had no intention of doing that.

So, while it's nice that local media support the cause, it was not the reason Josh got released. Josh was going to be released long before the date on that article......

    mm

Yeah um if that were the case why did they grant Josh a conditional release and not a full release? Also why would the AD wait until his e-mail inbox and phone lines were flooded with messages about the whole affair before doing anything? Finally, I am also pretty sure that WIU will not use all of their scholarships again this season.

  11. EJ is a good kid and he can play. I like his stroke but like his brother he likes to put it on the floor and attack. He has been to St. Louis University at least twice over the past couple of years and he also played in the Springfield TOC.

  12. and how are the kids protected when the school changes their mind? The school recruits a kid, he comes he's on the team a year, the school decides he's not good enough and pulls his scholarship, now the kid must sit a year before moving on. I don't want to hear about fair. Make it fair, the school is allowed to drop a kid at any time with no penalty whatsoever, so the kid should be allowed to drop a school at anytime with no penalty whatsoever. If a penalty is deemed neccessary, fine ... make it go both ways. Btw ... I'd be saying the same thing if Tommie wanted to leave this year. The school could just not renew and move on ... Tommie should be allowed to do the same. See the schollarship is not renewable on an annual basis for the kid, just for the school.

Just make it fair ... that's it. Whatever is good for the school is good for the kid. It's simple

I have heard lots of coaches comment on that very thing and most of them have said that if they make a mistake in recruiting a kid they deal with it and bite the bullet, but if they recruit a kid who is a bad seed they do everything in their power to make it uncomfortable for a kid to get him in line and if that doesn't work then they have to discuss the kids future at their program.

Remember you just can't go all wild and crazy and release kids without any repercussions. How easy is it to recruit against a coach who sits in a parents living room and says he is going to take care of a kid and they just continues to release kids left and right. Two things about that scenario one it should be easy to tarnish that type of coach's reputation and second that is where it is important for a kid to do his research before comitting to a coach. There are very few schools were a kid is commiting to a school and that is just the truth the coach is probably the biggest determining factor for a recruit no matter what the Letter of Intent says.

  13. Also, if I am not mistaken, that schollie is still reserved for JH so they can not even give it to somebody else for 4 years - I know that they only have to make sure that they do not exceed the 13 schollies in any given year but if JH decides he is coming to WIU then they have to take it away from somebody or not give one to some one else they wanted.

I forgot about that so technically WIU is being punished. The moment they use all of their scholarships Josh is released. So that is the schools protection and punishment. If they use the scholarship Josh is released, if they want to personally punish Josh they cannot use the scholarship. I remember at one point last year Josh was hoping WIU would sign another kid but it never happened.

  14. Here are a few things:

A coach can recruit a JUCO kid through the JUCO coach. I don't know what kind of contact the coach can have with the player but he can tell the player's coach whatever he wants.

If Josh is good enough to go to the SEC or Big 12 is it safe to assume that he could have been the conference player of the year at WIU. That attendance would improve and better recruits would come and the AD would get a raise as well as DT not to mention he would stll have a job.

I am not sure that SLU was interested in Josh. They watched him a lot the summer after his junior year, but they never pulled the trigger. I know Josh had a few schools telling him to wait to the Spring to see what comes available, but I think SLU still had a few scholarships for the taking in the fall.

I have been told by some reliable sources that there have been several schools that have contacted Josh after he signed his LOI. So there was some tampering going on with him.

If I am not mistaken he had offers from SEMO and WIU at the time he signed. He probably could have waited but then again he could have ended up with nothing after the season is over. Of course the ironic thing about that is he would end up where he is now.

Most important of them all you guys keep going back and forth about players sign to play for a specific coach vs the school. My question is why did Josh sign with WIU if he didn't have a fondness for the coach and he didn't necessarily like the scool that much? What other outside sources prompted him to verbal and then sign when there were a lot of people telling him not to sign.

The rules are stated plainly and clearly on the LOI. If a school releases you that is them being nice, but they don't have to. Recruiting takes up time and money, you spend time recruiting someone and then when he decides to come to your school, you pretty much stop recruiting for his spot. So when a kid changes his mind it cost more money and more time to recruit someone to take his spot not to mention that you have to look through the leftovers and then there is a good chance that you end up with players like Obi, Horace and Bryce.

Just a few of my thoughts on the situation. I like Josh a lot as a kid and a player and I really do want the best from him, but things could be terribly worse for him. Right now he is on track to not only play at a high level of JUCO basketball but of D1 basketball as well not to mention getting his associates degree and bachelors degree and all for free. So either way he is far ahead of most of the people in his graduating class and a most of the JUCO players in the country.

  15. so what you are saying is that the entire team was based on ppg. just line it up and list them out and top 5 are first team, second 5 second team, etc?

because if you ever saw daniel play you would know daniel is a very heady player, a tremendous defender and a goto kid that scores when they need it.

Wow they must have won state if he scored whenever they needed it and they only needed him for ten points a game. Wow! Not to mention the three rebounds and two steals and assists per game. He must be an all state selection. Maybe just maybe I should call Mike Brey and tell him I have the steal of the 08 Class.

  16. This is Jayme's Old Man and also the director of Team Missouri. Yes, we did play at Nike Memorial Day Classic/Nashville in 2006, and Howard Pulley in 2007...In fact the Eagles played us and beat us by 20...so check with Mister G. We have been invited to play at Howard Pulley again this season and will be there in May. We should have most of our roster this time around in Minneapolis, so we should do a little bit better.

Good Luck and I enjoy reading the board, even though you take quite a few shots at my kid. The Zac Efron references were a classic.

I am sorry I was wrong about the tournaments. There are always teams saying they were at tournaments and I don't see them, but I forgot your group has always played 17's so I wouldn't have seen them in Nashville and I didn't go to MN last year.

Just so you know I would never and have never taken a negative shot at a kid I know, and I have known Jayme for some time now. I am happy that he was able to lead his team to state.

Maplewood's schedule is hamstrung by our weak conference and teams reluctance to play us, because "we have nothing to gain from playing Maplewood." We pretty much had to trick Gateway Tech into playing us and drive out to Linn to do it. MICDS and Meramec have come up with convenient reasons for not allowing us into their tournaments, while letting far inferior teams from our conference in. But we got into and won the most important tournament we could. The thing is Bryant's numbers remained pretty consistent throughout the playoffs with that of the regular season and he has a lot of D1 coaches in the gym every night to see him and quite a few have offered him. So maybe just maybe our schedule is perfect for what we want to accomplish free college educations and state championships.

  17. First of all, I'm not "V." You should really get your facts straight about the schedule that Team Missouri plays. They've been to the Nike Memorial Day Classic and the Howard Pulley Sabes Invitational. (Those events are usually exclusive to Nike programs only, but Team MO got the invites.)

They were not at those tournaments.

  18. I don't know what I have said to make you think that Torres is my favorite player in the area, but that is not necessarily true. I think he is one of the top ten to fifteen players in the area, but he is not my favorite.

If Cassity sat behind, Booker, Femi John, and Tyler Griffey shame on his AAU coach....what kind of sense does that make. Booker was ranked in the top one hundred by the end of the summer, SLU offered Femi and Griffey a long time ago.

I think you are right about Kyle making his team better and being a good player. I think he is a pretty good player.

Michigan who still hasn't offered KC just got a verbal from a 6'4" guard from out of Indiana so they might not be in the picture anymore.
