  1. This is correct - O'Hagans is the official Billiken bar for game watches this season. Garrett is the owner (moved operations from Halsted Harp) and is a great supporter of our efforts and Billiken basketball. We had a test run after our Make a Difference Day event a few weeks ago and we were able to have the entire party room downstairs. We will use that room for larger game watches and special events.

We are working on getting a "season beer cup" for discount drafts as well as dates for official game watch events (more food and drinks specials, give-aways, etc.) I will be updating the FB and Twitter feeds with details and will also post here.

As always, O'Hagans is the place to meet for all Billiken games; Garrett will have the game on and sound for all games being broadcast on cable.

  2. The owner said he will have the game on Saturday with sound - just can't promise how big the St. Pat's parade crowd will be. They usually have quite a large number of people there since it is an authentic Irish pub and not one that has just an Irish name and stupid green food coloring in cheap beer!

He did say the early start at 12:30pm will be better for dealing with the crowds. Sunday (if necessary) is all us!

Hope you all can make it!

  3. You have to remember that Brooklyn itself is bigger than St. Louis. We do a good job of avoiding trouble in North City or the East Side. There is no reason to think that there will be any issues at or near the Barclays Center.

Agree. The distance (about 5 miles) from where that happened to Barclay's is the same as from Chaefitz to I-70 and Florissant.

  4. Friggin' domers. Good riddance!!!

Do you know how many sports their athletic department fields? A whopping 24! Most of the Catholic 7 fields 12-16 teams. The ACC is the best landing spot for the Irish:

    Men's Sports (12)

    FOOTBALL

    BASEBALL

    BASKETBALL

    CROSS COUNTRY

    FENCING

    GOLF

    HOCKEY

    LACROSSE

    SOCCER

    SWIMMING & DIVING

    TENNIS

    TRACK & FIELD

    Women's Sports (12)

    LACROSSE

    SWIMMING & DIVING

    TENNIS

    SOCCER

    BASKETBALL

    GOLF

    FENCING

    CROSS COUNTRY

    ROWING

    SOFTBALL

    TRACK & FIELD

    VOLLEYBALL

  5. An ND alum friend of mine posits that ND made a mistake in joining the ACC, as the new Big East would be a great fit, all sports, except football. ND gets to keep all the football money without any strings, like 'must play four ACC teams a year' stuff. (ND couldn't see the new Big East coming, but if they did, they would have been all over it.)

I wouldn't rule out ND trying to rectify this error with the $$$$$$$ they have. I don't know what this does for SLU, but it may not be good.

All the ND alums I spoke to and from my own knowledge is that ND could never go to the new BigEast due to their massive number of men and women's teams in Olympic sports. Many of those Catholic schools do not field most of NDs successful Olympic teams. Their athletic budgets are tiny compared to that of the Irish. And this is before mentioning the biggest reason and that is a landing spot bowl game for the football team in the event of not making the Final Four of the BCS in a given year.

ND to the new BigEast never would have been a marriage.

  6. If my flight is arriving at LaGuardia at 10:35am, our hotel is in mid-town Manhattan and the game is at 12 noon, can I drop off my bags at the hotel and get to the game in time? I assume it would be best to take a cab to the hotel. What would be best way to get to game?

  7. We will again be at Halsted Harp for our final regular season "official" game watch party at 8pm. The SLU Alumni office will again be hosting the event. I will be there at halftime after I get back from a SLU college night recruiting event. Hope to see everyone there!
