2)It was only about 5-6 months ago(?) Isabel tweeted something in regards to Tigerboard. Some people were talking about him on TB and he didnt like that.  So for a player to be checking a message board of a team, he hasnt played for in about 3 years was bizarre.  Also wasnt the first time Isabel and some mbm sorta got into it.

I believe that's the tweetwhere he said he loved Mizzou and would send his kids there. Correct?

  2. So does this BMI stand for the Bowel Movement Index?:)

I think you're actually referring to the BPI ; some sort of Power Index. Also for the poster "DUFF". Mizzou did not get a #1 seed in 1994 by winning the conference tournament. Nebraska, with Eric Piatkowski, won the tournament and automatic bid. Missouri got the #1 by going 14-0 in the Big 8 and 26-3 overall. No big deal but your logic was faulty. Congrats on a very good season and good luck in the tournament unless or until.....

  3. Just curious, who is Joe Strauss? Also, why would he care about the Bills? Is his MO usually being negative on certain St Louis pro and college teams?

He's the 4th writer(last) on the Cardinals beat for the Post. went to VCU I believe. I thought Billiken fans might like him since he really likes to rag on Mizzou and their journalists. But, except for the SEC, he seems to be an equal opportunity hater. the good news is he'll be out of work in this town as the printed media shrinks and, if you've heard him as a guest on Bernie's show, he has all the personalty and wit of a vending machine.
  4. This would be an example of the past many Stl Hoops Insider posts of exaggeration when evaluating talent. What Goode provides is size, familiarity with one of Mizzou's assistants, etc..

But as has been said, Mizzou needed bodies to fill 6 spots. It's getting those bodies, including some that will have a good impact, experienced players,...who with a year of practicing with the team, would be able to have a good impact.(Ross, Bell)

This is important to fill these needs with some non-Frosh who take more time. And, this allows Mizzou to fill the gaps before the 2013, 2014 kids are ready to contribute.

Mizzou is all over the 2013, 2014 classes in recruiting, at high levels. The transfers are a nice job of filling in some gaps for practice and also in some cases for immediate contribution when eligible, until the younger recruits are ready.

Thus far, in terms of recruiting, Haith and staff are off to a strong start. The expectation is that Mizzou is going to continue to recruit elite level kids in 2013, 2014 and beyond classes. It's in the final 3 for Purvis, one of the best handful of kids Nationally in his class...

Mike Anderson did not recruit at this level.

Brian Oliver(Soph SG, 10+ppg) is transferring from Ga Tech and is being recruited by Mizzou. Malcolm Hill will make another trip to Mizzou next Wednesday and Darius Hill just made his 2nd visit to MU this week. This staff is sure drawing a lot of interest.

  5. Yes and no. Haith is not responsible for Mizzou's recent basketball history, tradition, success as it compares to G'Towne and KU but Haith is responsible for his own poor record these past 7 years at Miami and the lack of buzz or excitement his hiring by Mizzou has brought to the program. Maybe Haith does even better than Mike Anderson. Maybe with a full year of recruiting, Haith gets next year's version of Otto Porter to commit to Mizzou. Time was certainly not on Haith's side. Still, the quick timing of Haith's hiring, the public statements that Porter is a big target for Mizzou and first chance for Haith and the fact that Haith went elsewhere is not a success for Haith. Maybe if Lance Painter took the job that Porter would have gone to Mizzou. Still, it is quite common for a new coach to be hired at a school and immediately land a kid who had not really been considering the school. If a coach makes an effort and lands the recruit (such as if Haith came in and convinced Porter to come to Mizzou), would the new coach, such as Haith, not receive credit? Would the new coach be credited with brining with a new breath of fresh air, a new direction for the program, a new buzz and excitement... Therefore, if a kid like Porter who is from rural Missouri where Mizzou has traditionally done quite well and who has repeatedly made statements that he would like to stay closer to home goes elsewhere after seeing that Mizzou hired a head coach, who was all but fired from Miami, whose former employer (Miami) immediately released him from his contractual provisions requiring Haith to pay Miami if he leaves before the end of his contract with Miami, who had a disappointing and sub-.500 record over 7 years, whose team was no closer to contending for the ACC title next year v. the 7 years earlier and whose Mizzou boosters, uniformly across the state and even within the Board of Curators, pan the selection, then I say it is "on Haith."

If you've done any recent research on Porter and Georgetown, you'd know that the lead recruiter for Georgetown(Robert Kirby) has been friends with Otto Sr for 30 years. It's kind of telling that all the "experts" who said he wanted to stay close to home are explaining it all away by saying the family never spoke about recruiting. Well why were they speculating when they didn't know. Missouri probably would have been in it before Anderson left but that sealed it. Haith knew he didn't have a chance after one phone call. Credit Georgetown for cranking up their effort when it became likely Anderson was leaving.

  6. No wonder Mizzou can't get any local recruits when they have no relevance beyond their own community.

Marquette and Wisconsin have a great rivalry. The papers and news are all over it for weeks. It definitely helps keep local recruits interested in BOTH schools.

the biggest basketball game in St. Louis year-in and year-out is Missouri-Illinois. Two BCS schools with passionate local followings lots of pageantry also covered on ESPN. I can see how SLU fans would like something like that.
  7. Just kind of sounds like sour grapes from a guy who got his feelings hurt because his coach left. English is a junior correct? Very unlikely he would have transferred for his senior season.

You are correct about him not transfering but he was in Anderson's doghouse all year. Played less than stellar defense. The opposing team's 3 position just dominated him. on top of that he took too many unadvised shots. Still, he's really popular with the team and the students.
  8. What a bunch of contradictions by the Missouri folks. On the one hand, the positive spin about Frank Haith is that he will run a clean program and graduate players. When concerns are raised about his ability as a coach, people are pointing to the fact that Jeff Capel and/or Anthony Peeler may become assistants. Are you kidding? Both have questionable backgrounds and would not be wanted on the staff of any team that is serious about cleaning up its image.

Capel as an assistant was a rumor that was never substantiated. Peeler's issues were personal and about 19 years ago as a 22 year old. But a question for you. Why would you hire a known college basketball cheater like Biancardi(the bag man for Jim O'Brien at tOSU and even consider doing it again?
  9. Wasn't one of Anderson's recruits his nephew? Some sort of relation? Was that English? If not, who and what is their status? Did this person graduate or are they still on the roster? Just curious.

That was Demarre Carroll. Anderson also had his son on the roster though maybe not on scholarship; now he's on the coaching staff and another relative is also an assistant coach. I never liked that. Demarre Carroll graduated and was a late 1st round draft pick. Wasn't doing that well but made some good money in the NBA.
  10. He amazingly has no buyout from what I understand. I get the feeling like he's just using Mizzou to get a little more money out of Purdue.

the buyout is $750K until July 1, then -0-. Anderson owes Mizzou $550K for his Buyout. Probably is a leverage deal but when someone like that expresses interest, they have to respond. Now, they're geared up to pay in excess of $2 Million a year, they might as well aim high.
  11. the BCS conference teams got their asses handed to them and no conference pissed down their leg more than the Big East; they embarrassed themseves. Look at the OOC of the top teams of the Big East and you'll see lots of games versus 250 to 300+ RPIs. They get to the tournament and find out they're not playing each other and it's goodbye. No clever alibis or excuses can hide that fact. Same goes for the Big 10 & Big 12. Not a good year o the "power" conferences.

  12. Absolutely. Make them my words. Mizzou and the Illini can play us on equal terms or not at all. Too much pride to do anthing else.

Don't get me wrong. I don't like the mega conference concept and the unwillingness of the BCS schools to play anyone good outside of a staged event/tournament on a neutral floor. At the same time, I am realistic to know that complaining and waiting for the BCS teams to come to town is not the answer. IMO, G'Town should have come to Mizzou Arena and allow the season ticket holders to watch the only decent OOC game. Mizzou should then return to the G'Town next year. These staged events/tournaments are just not good for the college game. Likewise, Mizzou plays the Illini here in the Lou. This is a more of a unique event, good for both schools to come here, please their alums/donors, get exposure and goodwill and play a good game. If we truly cannot get the good teams to town, then we have no choice but to add a BCS game and be someone's buy game. I will stop being season ticket holder, though, if we become Mizzou's buy game.

Sounds like you are aware (correctly) of the story that Mizzou tried to get a home and home with G-Town and was rebuked.Same thing with Michigan State. Next year the conference schedule goes to 18 games v. 16 so the OOC games shrink by two. Unless SLU's willing to take a 2 for 1, you probably won't be on it.
  13. I believe we were one of the first to offer him. There's no way he's still considering MSU.

if not Missouri, SEMO is a real possibility. His cousin, Michael Porter, tranferred there and his dad played there.

    They're seriously involved.

  14. Last year some of the deSLUsional fans on this board were comparing SLU to Butler going forward, weeks after SLU had just been dispatched twice by VCU in the Shop'n'Save tourney--while Butler had recently bested Syracuse, K-State, Michigan State and nearly Duke on a stage that was lit just slightly brighter.

I offered some objective reasoning on the matter. Some of you were kind enough to counter with some blue kool-aid.

I thought that was the peak of deSLUsion...

But now I read that Kyle Cassity is headed to the National Basketball Association. You know, the league that employs JJ Redick is a role player, sparingly employs Adam Morrison, and doesn't at all employ Blake Ahearn.

Do you think he'll even bother staying for his senior year?

Only if he's a lottery pick. No sense shorting yourself.:)
  15. Berkman was signed to a one-year deal, not a multi year deal. It only makes me think they want more offense in the outfield. On top of that, Berkman really is 34. They aren't replacing Pujols with Berkman. The Cards are going to offer Pujols a deal but want to make sure to fill other needs during this winter. Pujols has stated that he wants a contract to be taken care of before spring training.

And, MB, IF you are correct, and that is a big IF because you are usually only correct on 5% of things, then I think Pujols should still be signed to a 7 year deal that runs through him being in his 40s. He hasn't even come close to slowing down, he has brought the Cards 2 World Series appearances and a title, numerous MVP awards or 2nd place finishes and quite frankly owns this town. Him playing anywhere else will just feel wrong and would devestate fans when he comes here in a different uniform.

trade him to the American League and you may not have to see him in a different uniform. Seven years and $30MM is too much.
  16. Boise St. is a glorified Community College no way could they compete in the Big 12 under the Big 12 rules. They would be last almost every year in football.

Arkansas and LSU would love being partnered with so many tier 1 schools. The SEC has 1 tier 1 school and the Big 12-2 has 6. Everyones degree's would be worth a whole heck of a lot more being in the Big 12. Money talks.

ROTFLMAO!!! A ku fan expounding on the value of Boise State's relative value in football. They would not finish dead last. ku has last pretty well locked up especially with Colorado leaving. You're right about BSU's educational value though. LSU and Arkansas are not leaving the SEC for the Big 12(10). Too much money. The Big 12 won't last. The Texas schools dictate everything and probably rightfully so. They have the population and tv sets. They, however, are not a benevolent leader and teams will always be looking at other opportunities. When they get their Texas tv network up and running it will get even worse. They are arrogant pr!cks. In hindsight, it would have been better if there were divided factions and Texas had been split into four states.
  17. IMO, the Big 12 has little to gain by adding another Texas school. They already have the state covered and then some. Expanding conferences are typically doing so in new territories for them in order to broaden their TV appeal. I'm not sure the Big 12 will add teams any time soon. The extra money of a football playoff is somewhat negated by having to share with 2 more teams. Plus you run the risk of having your better team knocked out of the BCS by losing the championship game.

(pure speculation on my part) IMO, if the Big 12 is looking to add teams, Boise State, Cincy, Louisville, and Memphis are among the better possibilities.

Back when the Big 12 was formed, Texas and A&M thought too many Texas schools were being included. If Ann Richards, the Governer, wasn't a Baylor alum, they never would have been admitted. There are many who think the Big 12 is only holding together until UT gets their TV network in place to be grandfathered in whereever they go. They, A&M and Oklahoma can moreorless choose from several expanded conferences. The remaining won't be able to be so choosy and a few, like K-State and/or Iowa State could be out of luck as far as a BCS conference affiliation.
