I read on Twitter that the women's team drew between 4,000 and 5,000 last night. Whatever the promotions staff did, even if it was nickel beers with no carding, that's damned impressive.

Ahh, y'all missed two subtleties in that article:
1) I could see the point of tossing in Mizzou and Illinois because of the whole "wow, 1989 was a golden year in St. Louis basketball" -- except that Hochman was eight or nine years old in 1989, so it's very doubtful that he can "remember then," man.
2) Did you see the cutline on the photo? Huh, huh, didja, didja?
"Saint Louis head coach Travis Ford watches during the first half of an NCAA college basketball game against BYU, Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, in Las Vegas. (AP Photo/John Locher)"
We MBMs simply must have a recurring *****-fest about how we're actually Saint Louis University, or it just isn't the board. Insider scoop: That cutline was provided by the AP. Official AP Style is Saint Louis University. In a bit of either irony or arrogance (or both), the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is one of the few newspapers in the country to violate AP Style and go with St. Louis University, as in the lede paragraph of the article.
Carry on.

I didn't see his name at all when I pulled up the link.
Well, no. It's a search engine that allows you to see the property records of everyone who lives in St. Louis County. That's what the "Name" field is for on the lower left. We do expect you to do some of your own work.

Nope, the metro as a whole has had the biggest population loss of any region:
That whole article strikes me as another case of the innumeracy of journalists. To wit:
"The Chicago area lost an estimated 6,263 residents in 2015 — the greatest loss of any metropolitan area in the country. That puts the region's population at 9.5 million."
That excerpt makes it sound like he's using gross numbers and not percentages. Well, yeah, a shrinking SMSA with 9.5 million people is going to lose more residents than an SMSA with, say, 2 million people. And 6,263 in a population of 9.5 million is basically rounding error.

I don't see any proof of that of course.

St. Louis County real estate records confirm this. Or at least that he owns a house there.
It's clear why someone might think that he lives in Springfield.

Fair enough. But what is your position on the City-County merger?

Yes, as I said above, they really did strive for a contiguous development that made sense for the site. Doesn't stop me from being disappointed in some aspects of the ultimate result. It was more New Urbanist (TM) than I would have preferred. But they certainly didn't follow your advice to completely ignore objectives like density just because the City's population has been declining for a half century now...
I think you missed the second half of my post. My comment on density was qualified by defining the site by Grand, Chouteau, Spring and Park. So they simply redefined the site (shrunk the footprint, as I think you said somewhere) and made it dense within its own context.
In other words, I think we're basically saying the same thing, but my density comment was interpreted in a way it wasn't meant to be. Like that never happens in written discussions of short burst where there's no tone of voice.

I could have sworn I'd seen discussion of a lot of this several months ago, and indeed, the most recent P-D article presents nothing new in terms of renderings or overall site design. NextSTL has a lot more pictures to that effect here, from February:
https://nextstl.com/2017/02/new-renderings-unveiled-550m-ssmslu-hospital-project/
That posting shows a few things not apparent in the single rendering (which isn't new) in the P-D article:
- The new hospital actually does come out to the curb, or very close to it.
- The green space in front of which someone is illegally riding a bicycle on the sidewalk is actually a setback for the parking garage.
- The backside appendage on Firmin is being bulldozed and "green space" is going in there, but it won't be visible from the street. IIRC, it's supposed to be a "healing space," or somesuch New Age concept.
The larger question, and the one that I think will truly determine how well SLU/SSM does in restoring somewhat of an urban environment, will be what ends up happening to the Pevely lot.
-
800,000 -> 300,000 means that "density" is pretty far down on the design criteria these days. And if you bound the area by Grand, Chouteau, Spring and Park, there simply isn't enough SLU Hospital and associated buildings to fill up the space anywhere near dense.

OK, pre-emptive strike: It says OT.
But first: Interesting that someone who had such a rep as a playa is settling down already.
Second: Always examine the pix you post. It's just an optical illusion created by the wind and her shirt tail, but it isn't immediately obvious that the tail involved is her shirt.

Jayson Tatum. I'm shocked you haven't heard of him. He's from Saint Louis and played high school basketball at Chaminade. He was a McDonalds All American in 2016. He went on to play for Duke and recently was drafted number 3 overall in the NBA Draft. He was conceived while his father Justin was a basketball player for the very same Billikens that this site is named after.
It's not in blue. Maybe he just forgot.

@bonwichare you saying Pitbull was at the new Katie's Pizza and Pasta? Her husband, Ted Collier, looks quite a bit like Pitbull, so I assume that would be who people saw. He does a lot of the art that is displayed around her restaurants.
The report I got was that Pitbull was seated at a table eating along with three bodyguards. I shall tweak the reporter to see if he was pulling legs on Facebook, but that's not his usual style.

No, really. You could have cued Pitball last night at the new Katie's Pizza and Pasta. At least that's what my spies said.
I have no idea where he's dining this evening.

You said there was a Proposition P in the City. There was not. Proposition P was only in the County.
There was not an initiative called Proposition P in the City - unless you have proof?
I see that in addition to all of the other issues you might have, you haven't learned to scroll back in a thread. Let me help:
QuoteProposition P, passed in both the city and the county, established a sales tax to assist in the funding of the CityArchRiver project. I'm guessing he means that the Taylors want a similar regional contribution to match or at least supplement their own funds. (I'd also guess that a certain tech mogul is still involved, but I may be wrong.)
Golly! There have been multiple Prop P's in the last few years. Who knew? Don't you suppose that would confuse voters? (It apparently did for at least one voter.)
And in case you aren't following yet, that was in response to The Pelican's statement and others' subsequent requests for clarification.
QuoteWhat the article doesn't tell you is that the Taylor's are the bankroll and it hinges on a quid pro quo a la "the arch" funding
Now quick! Change the subject or at least post something that's irrelevant to the information I just provided.

Mizzou is almost certainly plummeting because of Ferguson/"we need some muscle over here" fallout. Plus it's really interesting to see the Politico analysis that schools that attract wealthier students bias the rankings towards themselves.
The fact that MUST tread water was encouraging.
Oh, PS. As long as the state political structure continues to be dominated by raving Jezoids, we're screwed.
