  1. RM says a lot of stuff that doesnt happen. CR will not redshirt and I think he has a chance to play good minutes. His defense and rebounding will be key to the team.

I hope you're right. Based on Cory's performance at the end of the year and his supposed strong summer so far, I agree that he could be a huge part of our success next season.
  2. Are you sure Jett is not on campus? My son went to the Billikens Basketball camp at Whitfield, and Porter Moser ran the camp. Harrington was there and various players were there different days. The one day I view part of the camp, WR, KC, BC, PE, Young, KW and CR were all there. However, there was another guy a little taller than KM and thicker. I presumed he was Jett.

Anyway it was a good camp, worked the high school age kids hard, my son was whipped by the end of the day.

    Femi?
  3. I thought that was a great interview. Seems like somebody has been coaching Rick on his interview skills. The last few have been pretty solid. Also, re:scheduling, it really sounds like Rick is trying to get those games. Even makes a comment about michigan state's weak schedule. Just sayin...

  4. we need a strong athletic dept for all sports. the more slu registers as a competitive program the more it helps other sports and slu in general.

what both conway and hendrickson have accomplished is pretty darn good considering what they are given to work with and what they have to sell.

Agreed. It is in SLU's best interest to have competitive sports across the board. I've never seen a women's softball game, but it is embarrassing when your coach leaves for a better deal at a D2 school.
  5. If KM is our best pure pg lets hope he makes considerable improvement in finding the open man and protecting the ball next year. Name me all the pg's who lead their team in scoring and not in assists. I guarantee you there isn't many. KM wasn't even close to the top 10 in the conference in assists or assist to t/o ratio but he was in the top 10 in scoring, fg%, and 3 pt fg%.

Of course you may be right B) but the stats say otherwise. So if you are, lets hope he's working hard over the summer we need much better from him next year.

Agree with this. This is Kwamain's team and he is our point guard, but feel he has trouble finding that open man. Kyle makes a lot of passes that nobody on the team can make. I even saw some of that out of Ellis. Kwamain is a solid point guard, but he has a scorer's mentality. I generally like my PG's to have a pass first mentality. Which is better is debatable and people have made a lot of money as either. That's not really the point. KM will get his minutes...probably the same as last year...but it will not be exclusively at the 1. I think all three of these guys (KM, MM and JJ) will get time at the 1...with KM and MM getting some solid 2 minutes. We have a ton of talent on this team at the 1 and 2 and I have no idea how it will shake out. If we are truly running, we could even see somebody play the 3 for a stretch. I could see Cassity at the 3 as well in certain situations.
  6. "The new tournament will feature 12 games through three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated will face off in a championship match. Conference USA will serve as the event's sponsoring conference. "

After reading this, i'm a hell of a lot less enthusiastic about this tourney. I figured, well worse case scenario, we get some good publicity on ESPN as more or less the marquee team in this tourney. Well, if i'm inferring what the article has to say correctly, we will not even be ESPN or the Deuce. Looks like we can hope for ESPNU at best and most likely some BS broadcast on the ESPN college basketball package that will be blacked out on Direct TV. Sure, I still like the fact that we get in the next two tourney's, but think this regional ESPN stuff is bull****.
  7. The comment i'm curious about is the "ESPN has been really good to us". What does that mean? Obviously they haven't been good to us in the past 2 years. Does it mean we will have a number of games on ESPN this year? Or is he only talking about getting an invite to the tourney. I really hope we get to see these guys on high definition. Maybe we'll start getting to split some of the A-10 ESPN games with Xavier...those guys were on at least half a dozen times.

  8. in case you havent checked out the A-10 board this is a recent post i find very interesting:

    http://media.nj.com/ledgerarchives/other/colorBIG10.DT.pdf

I also wanted a SLU breakdown of this situation.

If this exact situation occurs (Not likely but generally i see most of those football teams in some super conferences) i guess SLU would have to join the MVC..which i do not support currently but if it did break down this way, really our only choice.

the problem with this map that i see relative to the A-10 and SLU is the fact that charlotte is in the A-10. Although Richmond plays football in the CAA, i would hope Charlotte becomes more dedicated to football then basketball and joins a football conference like the CAA and brings its other sports along. This would leave Saint Louis as the only team in the A-10 currently not in the proposed A-10. I would hope that as BustedDreams49 stated in the A-10 thread that the facilities and dedication SLU has showed recently will propel them towards the new a-10.

    Thoughts?

I don't see it shaking out this way. The complaint from the Big East is that the conference has become too big. We even hear that in the A-10 as not all teams play each other. This proposal shows HUGE conferences (20 in the Big Atlantic). I'm in favor of the smaller conferences.
  9. My personal opinion is that the kids were out partying. Everybody had too much to drink. Girls goes back with the boys and they consensually get a little crazy in the bedroom. Word gets out and the girl starts regretting it/gets embarrased/sobers up. She claims rape. Investigation unsues and finds the girl consented and probably has a bit of a reptutation. There are some potential moral issues here, but nothing against the law. Certainly not worth ruining these mens life due to a poorly judged sexual encounter. Obviously this is just speculation, but everything i've seen and heard over the past few years indicates we have stand up guys on this team. Sexual promiscuity is a bit of a cultural thing as well and can be misconstrued by those with more conservative views. That being said, a men's basketball player needs to be held to higher standards as national/international ambassadors of the school and program. Regardless of the legality of the situation, some sort of disciplinary action should be taken (but NOT expulsion).

This is just an opinion and an attempt to leave my personal morality out of it.

  10. Isn't there some responsibility on the coach to fit the kids into the coach's system and/or have the coach augment the system a little to fit the kid? It just seems that RM gets a free pass when the kids don't pan out or don't "fit the system", etc.

I think JS could be a nice player off the bench that can change the dynamic of the game for SLU.

I'm not saying this is all RM's fault or that better players aren't filling these spots. Nor am I saying I want RM gone. I'm just saying that he seems to get a free pass a lot of the time.

I agree with this. It's a two way street. Rick shouldn't recruit players that don't fit the system, and players need to make educated decisions on where to go. I feel sorry for JJ because when you look at it, he's the odd man out in terms of minutes based simply on his size. With the talent we have, it will be tough for somebody like JJ to get minutes and he needs to be somewhere he can play because he has talent. Still think his shooting is something we have room for.

In regard to Jon, I keep hearing how we want to pick up the pace. Jon brings athleticism and length to this team that we don't have. i still remember that 15 second stint against SIU where he had like 3 blocks in a row, including 2 on booker. That is what this kid brings to the table and he can get big minutes in the right game situations. If we are to run, I think Jon could be a huge part of that. BUT, i certainly see his point in not seeing where he fits in. If we play a slower game, Jon will suffer. We need to exploit his athleticism and our system, as it is currently run, would not do that.

  11. Best of luck to Justin. I always hate to see kids leave, but he obviously realized playing time was going to be real hard to come by with the talent we currently have and have coming in. Nobody wants to work as hard as Majerus makes these kids workd then never see the floor. I'll continue to follow his career as he seemed like a good guy.

  12. According to my sources, Jett has not given a commitment to SLU but its possible that he could in the next few days.

Nate - why do we want a guy like Jett? We have a starting point guard the next two years in Kwamain. We have his backup in McCall and shown that Cassity is a solid third option if we need to move that far down the depth chart. Does this guy really come in so highly regarded that we would sacrifice a current player for a third point guard? If we want to fill a need, my thoughts would be that we need a true center long before we need another point guard.
  13. Thanks for posting the vids. I DVR'd the game the other night, but it didn't start in Nashville until the 3rd qtr.

My assessment is the same as watching his brief stint on Saturday night. I think this guy is a perfect fit for Majerus' system. Those who thought the next Demarcus Cousins was going to show up on campus this fall will be sorely disappointed. Those who think he's a stiff are way off too. This guy has skills. He seems a bit timid and needs to work on his strength (probably the reason for the timidness). However, for a 6'11 guy, he is very coordinated and moves very well. He reminds me a bit of Ian. He seems to look for the pass a lot and definitely has a bit of a stroke....and again....he's 6'11. I'm not sure if he'll come in as a starter, but he'll be quick off the bench. I think Willie would toast him right now (as he should being older and more seasoned), but not sure how the other bigs would fair. Corey has a little more athleticism and strength (at least best I can tell from these 6 vids), but not the ball skills yet.

I think he'll be the first big off the bench and might move to a starter position before the end of the season. I'm REALLY excited to see how this guy progresses with Rick's coaching. He could become a big time player....just not there yet.

  14. Big feature on Porter Moser today in Green Bay paper:

    http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/articl...25/1227/GPG0201

Ok, so two things stand out for me. First off, with all the BS in college sports and coaches leaving all over the place....what could possibly be preventing SLU from giving Porter a fresh contract?! Sign the guy...name him the associate head coach. WTF??

Also, why does Rick say "but I would think that'd be the way a lot of the significant players (at SLU) want to go, and it's the way I would want it to go." Why does what anybody on the roster thinks mean a single thing right now? That concerns me more than anything. Other than the freshman coming in, Rick SHOULD be around to see the entire team graduate...assuming he plays out his contract. I feel like i've read things here and there recently that lead me to believe Rick may not be around as long as originally thought.

  15. God, I hope he is transferring under his own decision.

That would be a ###### move.

I've seen this coming for awhile. I know everybody reacts to concussions differently, but I just see the way that whole thing went down (i.e. never even attempting to come back for school and/or games) and I just thought he didn't want to be here. Based on the way Rick was quoted, I feel he left on his own. The guy was getting a lot of playing time among the frosh and looked like he could be a big contributer before he went down. Best of luck to the kid.
  16. Yes.

I don't think Loe is wrapped up.

I think SLU has a good chance to get him, but I don't think he is wrapped up.

Yeah...that's a little overboard. But for him to say something like that, I get the impression that SOMEBODY is wrapped up. Until it's announced, anything can happen, but he went out of his way to say we should get good news here shortly, and I gotta think Loe is the man. Anybody brought in at this juncture would have to be an impact player, IMO.
  17. Majerus just said "I think we're going to have some good recruiting news coming up soon."

    And boom goes the dynamite.

    Let the craziness begin.

I heard it too. You gotta think that means Loe is wrapped up and we don't want to go there until after the season. That is awesome, but I hate that somebody has to go. We'll see how it goes down, but I truly think the person who ends up leaving will probably be leaving on his own. Nobody wants to be the weak link.
  18. I wanted to post this yesterday, but talked myself out of it as i didn't want to overlook the Princeton.

(Great game by the way for the Bills. Awesome offensive game. We scored 20 more than expected)

So, is someone putting together anything special for a mass viewing of the first game of the champioship series on Monday?

At the very least there needs to be several locations where a die hard Billiken fan can get together with a large bunch of fellow rowdy fans on Monday before the real fun starts next Wednesday.

Again, a large organized viewing location or two would be great, but if not; where is a good place to gather that bleeds Billiken blue and will definitely have the game on?

I'd just stay away from this guy...

  19. That is the official stream.

I was the last cat to get a flat screen but I still haven't upgraded to HD. Therefore, I have to HD net. I am now in panic mode. Please be online, please be online, come on channelsurfing come through for me.

The thing is that they generally stream the webcam through channel surfing...we now know that won't be in operation. And, HDNet doesn't offer anything online (from what I can tell on the site). So, the only hope is for somebody to stream the feed from there cable box. My thoughts are JustinTV could have it. I'm calling up mom and dad and will be hijacking the satelite dish for the night.
