Fisk is TSU's Harris Stowe. We should win this one but nothing is a gimme this year. Don't know much about this years squad, but watched them play Vandy in a close game last year. I'd say this team is on the same level as Austin Peay (then again APSU looks pretty good so far).Tennessee St is currently 1-3 with a fairly tough schedule. The beat something called Fisk and have lost on the road at Miss State (by 10), Illinois State (by 5), and Air Force (by 15). The have a forward and guard each averaging about 15 pts per game.
I'd like to think that we'll take care of business in this one, but...

I think the image is starting to become clear as to the cause of some of Willie's problems over the past few years (the Milestone transfer, the purported "other" issues, this latest incident). It's obvious that his father is not the strong male influence many of us have had the luxury of growing up with. Willie seems to be a good kid and WANTS to be a Billiken. That's enough for me to give him a second chance.Willie's latest facebook post...
Willie Showtimenwg Reed Everyone my dad has no impact on my decision to attend slu in the spring semester... If slu wants me back then I will be back! I love slu!
The saga continues...

Woah, wait...Stamos really does come to the games? I thought you guys were just messing around and really talking about the Big Heads. Is he from STL or something?LOL. If I hear word he's coming. It will be made.

Unbelievable. This article just pisses me off. Sure, it is not a catholic thing to do....many would say it's "immoral". But cause for these guys to be kicked off the team? No effing way. This chick is walking away scott free when she obviously consented (PUT THE CONDOM ON TWO DIFFERENT MEN FOR THEM?!?!) and regretted it on the way home. I'm just in shock.

I agree with most of this. I was devastated after the loss and took the weekend off, but I'm feeling a little better about it now and Roy has put it into perspective. A few additional thoughts...while it is depressing that we lose to austin peay, especially the way we lost (missed free throws, uncontested turnovers horrible three point shooting), it can also be said these are reasons we shouldnt be that bad.
i would bet rickma fixes the turnover issues. take away 4 of those just passes to nobody, we win friday night.
no way salacich misses that many free throws in a game again. he was far too solid of a free throw shooter to do that. he makes three more free throws we win. (no i am not saying we should expect christian to be 8-8 i think he missed a couple front ends of 1 and 1's as well)
loe, ellis and cassity were 2-10 from the 3 point line. they make 2 we win. i would bet the three of them together will average 40% from the 3 line this season.
the point is, while it seems dismal after a bad loss, i think there is a light to still look towards.
the two biggest issues imo are inside toughness and step up scorer. cassity acted like that scorer it in the second half. but we need that in two halves. and there is no reason that ellis wont do it as well. plus i hold out hope for one of the freshmen to step up as a top scorer yet.
the inside toughness might be hard to get. conklin desparately is trying, but i am not sure if he is good enough. same can probably be said for dwight(sic) evans.
the three that have to give a better (and smarter) effort under the basket are remeken ellis and loe. when they dont have the ball they have to be rebounding and defending. if they dont, we are going to be at a huge disadvantage that will put far too much pressure on making threes and steals. that isnt going to equal success.
1) I disagree about CS. I hate to say it, but I think he's gone the route of Polk and has completely lost the mental game. I hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling he will continue to slide down the bench. His handling of the free throws led me to this conclusion more than the airballs.
2) Collectively, this teams needs to grow some balls. We have no edge...no attitude out there. We came out against an inferior team with no aggression. My hope is that this is because it's game 1 and the team is trying to figure out roles. The start of the second half was MUCH better and give me some hope.
3) JJ and MM give me hope at the point. I think RL will be a great player.
4) Ellis needs to step it up (see number 2 above). He has obviously not embraced the role of a go-to guy....or his 6'8 body.
5) We miss Willie more than Kwamain (as I predicted). Willie's out there and the game is a blowout, IMO.

Link is now up on slubillikens.com. Now it's time to party!! I gotta big bottle of Dewar's calling my name. Got a new Billiken shirt in the mail last week and will be playing "Saints" on the way home from work. YES!

Depends who you ask. CBS College sports claims you can watch them anytime. With SLU it's a different story. They are SUPPOSED to have the games archived within a few hours of completion to watch again. That has happened for maybe 2-3 games. I have called and complained but have never gotten anywhere with it. I'm pretty sure whoever manages the game production is forgetting the archive task.Another question - I popped for the Billiken Access today. Does it by any chance work like a DVR? Can I watch the game anytime? Or can I only watch it live?

I'm in the camp of thinking this is not a gimme at all. We could very well lose this game. I'd like to think not, and I believe that we have more talent. Problem is that we haven't all played together, it's the first game for many freshman that will be required to play a SIGNIFICANT role, and we've lost our two best players. Sure, we'll probably win...and should win...but if we lose, I won't be totally shocked and throw in the towel. We're going to have some growing pains.Yes, it's hard to live down the infamy but there is no way this Billikens team is as bad as the one Uncle Brad trotted out in 2004. Just to relive the pain, I looked up the article on that one.
http://www.slubillikens.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/122904aab.html
Dwayne Polk led the Billikens in scoring that night. Without Reggie Bryant, that team was toast. Even without Willie and Kwamain, this team still has talent. When did an Uncle Brad team ever have a PF the caliber of Cody and Rob? I guess the point is that this team isn't pinning its hopes on just one or two players to step up and fill the void. McCall, Jett, Cassity, Salecich can all score at guard. On any given night, we need two of them to be on. At forward, we have Cody, Rob, and Conk who can score. And I still think Evans is going to be that Luke Meyer glue guy who defends, grabs boards, and find his points somehow, someway.
Agree with everyone who says this team is vulnerable because there could very well be games where all the freshman suck in unison and we look like a very bad team. But I think cockstrong is the difference maker. I trust he can right the ship if it takes on water. The first few games are especially ripe for trouble and especially at the PG position. We have a lot riding on Mike McCall's shoulders tonight.

Really? I thought that once you paid online, you could get all the game. I was almost sure that was the way it worked, but I'll take your word. As to the person who mentioned Channelsurfing...that link generally won't show until the school AD posts the link. It streams the same thing. Now, if something in the STL has a slingbox or something....I'd be very grateful...Unfortunately, yes. Each school has their own site. You can pay a fee for year to all colleges connected to our provider. I think it runs around $130.00, but I'm not sure. I just buy the away games that I can't find anywhere else. I'm able to watch pretty much every game. Again, if you use another school's site, make sure to cancel it after the game, cause they'll keep charging you monthly.
-
Thanks for the information. I assumed they would be online, but when I didn't see the link, I started to wonder if maybe they weren't getting the ROI or something. I'm thinking this may be mandated at the league level, so who knows. Either way, I'll be signing up...it's much better now that the damn Silverlight interface has gone away. I hated that thing. All home men's and women's basketball games are available on-line through Billikens Access. $9.95 per month or $70.00 a year, roughly. Almost always the same when we play on the road, for $9.95 you can pick up the home team feed on-line. If you go to away game sites, be sure to cancel the subscription after the game, otherwise they'll bill you $9.95 a month forever.

I've been checking all week and SLUBILLIKENS has not yet posted a link. I have to believe it will be online. Epic fail otherwise. Not in St. Louis, so I don't get KPLR - anyone know if the game is available on-line?
-
+1Were you in your 50s even in your late teens and early 20s? Your expectation for this young man are unreasonable. Or you've forgotten what it's like to be young.

Great report, ARon...thanks. I thought this was an odd lineup. I would say this is our strongest OFFENSIVE lineup. But, it sure seems weak on defense. I really like it, actually, but seems to be outside the norm for Majerus who seems happy if we score 10pts...as long as the other team only scores 5. I wonder what brought the change on.-As a result, starting lineup for Friday (and I expect until further notice) MM,KC,CE,BC,RL.
-
oh...good point...didn't catch that. Still curious about my question though if anybody has an answer. It means that John Manning will sign.
-
What does this mean? Mid-season transfer?Keep your ears open. Not the fall signing period.
Are there any scenario's in which a player can come to us mid-season and play immediatly? JUCO transfers? Foreign players? I know Ellis did that last year, but he was already committed well before January.
-
And I'd have to guess that these games will be aired on stations only available in St. Louis. Brilliant!I was told by a member of the Athletic Department, an additional 7-9 games would be announced soon. Unfortunately for those of us in St. Louis, most are home games.
-
I agree with this, actually. But where we're getting killed right now is on that weak side defense or defensively down low. Between Willie or Jon Smif, if a guard got beat on a drive, there was a very high probability that the layup was gonna be swatted into Biondi's lap. We don't have that anymore. We went from having 2 ultra athletic guys who can intimidate people from driving, to having several very skilled players who can barely dunk. No, the game isn't about dunking, but you gotta have the guys who can play above the rim with all those BCS guys. I really hope I'm wrong...and maybe an Evans/Remekun combo can become what we need down low....i'm just pretty concerned after our two games on how we're going to handle athletic big men. It's been the age old question for Billiken fans...first let me qualify i am talking willie AS A FRESHMAN compared to loe.
for my money, i will take loe over the freshman willie reed. while willie is explosive dunking and blocking shots, loe is further along overall offensively. second, while loe is getting pushed around the very under weight freshman willie reed also got pushed around.
loe has made great strides imo in just a week. leading me to think he is also very coachable.
let's watch this play out. loe might turn out to be quite the freshman surprise imo. one things for sure, i am betting he has a higher free throw percentage this year than willie ever did or will have.

I was not going to accept anything less than an at large bid to the dance....when I thought KM and WR were returning. Without them, I'm HOPING for a chance at the NIT. After our two exhibition games, I continue to think the loss of Willie will be too much to overcome. There is simply no "presence" down low. We'll miss Kwamain and he was our only true "go to" guy, but I honestly feel good ball movement and solid offense can come close to overcoming that. You can't teach what Willie brought to the game in terms of the athleticism, height and skill combo. These guys are spot on, IMO.66. The preseason loss of Kwamain Mitchell and Willie Reed will prevent Saint Louis from contending for an NCAA tournament bid.
Not anything we all didn't know...at least we got mentioned?
Hope they are wrong though.

um...I don't get it. It's a girl that wants to be called a "He"? Seriously, I'm not quite sure what this even means. Doesn't sound like there was an operation. And it sounds like it is a girl by anatomy. Is it just a new word for lesbian?? What's the big deal here?A NY Times areticle about it: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/02/sports/ncaabasketball/02gender.html?_r=1&ref=sports

Sounds like it's free tonight, but yes, this is a subscription service. I believe it's 9.99/month or like 70/year. I stopped giving my money and used the free links as available last year because of so many problems, but I'll probably sign back up this year and give it a shot. A small price to pay, IMO...Maybe a dumb question. I noticed it was through CBS Sports on that link for the video: this is a subscription service, yes?
-
I've been checking every day for the past week and it just showed up....we go the WATCH link on Slubillikens.com! That means we'll be able to see the game streaming. If anybody finds it elsewhere, we can post here. I'm super pumped now. Listened to the band's version of Saints twice this morning on the way to work. Giddy up!

So, if I'm planning on going to a game, I can't buy these online and redeem over the phone? I am definitely planning to come up there for one game but I don't want to wait until game night to get the ticket. Am I out of luck? Also, what is tier 2 and 3? Good seats? You can buy a groupon no matter where you live in the US. You just need to go to STL to redeem the Groupon.
It looks like as of now that they have sold 488 so far. I hope we sell a lot of these. When the arena is full we play well!

Cal's comments actually remind me quite a bit of something Majerus would say. Either way, Josh will always be a ****** in my book. -
As somebody who works in healthcare and is privy to the money invovled, I can tell you that the revenue generated by the hospital will far outweigh anything being brought in by the university. Hopefully that will get you those updates. Biondi isn't stupid...How about he upgrades the baseball field and softball field before buying a hospital...Unreal
