  1. Thanks for contributing, but I'll take the opinion of our coaching staff over a "recruiting analyst". Rick doesn't just hand schollies out to any kid with a basketball. My guess is that his upside is huge and will be a fantastic player by the end of his tenure.

  2. Nothing listed on Channel Surfing to watch the game, but I did not know if Duquense may have a local sports package/I could go to a sports bar to watch. Any thoughts?

It's listed on the Duquesne athletic site as having streaming video tonight. It may pop up on channelsurfing before tip off.
  3. I apologize for not attaching any of the countless bonerific pictures of these fine models for fear of getting fired (maybe those of us snowed in can assist the thread). Am I the only one who didn't know that the hottest collection of females in the world is the Oregon cheerleaders? They blow NFL cheerleaders out of the bedroom. I tried going to their website last night and it was down due to high activity. America! :D

I learned this about a year ago on this board. We had an influx of super hot Oregon cheerleader pics. Good times on Billikens.com!
  4. My experience with academic administrative bodies is that they do what they subjectively feel in their collective gut to be right, damn the precedent and reasoning. Nothing about their mode of operation is "set in stone". Hope you are right that this is a done deal so long as Willie and KM hold up their end of the bargain.

    +1

If precedent or reasoning had anything to do with the process, we wouldn't be in this predicament to begin with. My gut tells me SLU will screw this up and we're given the shaft.

  5. Why wait until Jan 3? That is ridiculous. They laid out the requirements...if they meet them, they are in. If they don't meet them, they never show up. What is the big deal here? I know we're talking about academia, whose employees live in some sort of fantasy world, but this is insane. Regardless of the basketball outcome, if SLU doesn't let them in, they have now forfeited an entire year of EDUCATION. Can't really apply and enroll in a new school on the first day of classes. It seems like some sort of power trip by somebody or some group at the university.

  6. drew it should be shut down for a lack of reading comprehension. the number of posters that took my original post on the subject out of context and twisted the words is beyond incredible.

i do want to thank my normal adversary, cowboy, for having the intelligence to actually read what i posted. thank you cowboy.

Majerus himeself has picked him to be the next academic all american at SLU. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility with enough hard work, a few good breaks, and a continuation of a shift of Kyle's mindset on the court that a sniff at the league could be possible. Kyle is not ready now and wouldn't even be in the conversation to be in a European league. But I think the base is there for a possibility.
  7. I agree. If they dont mess up the reinstatement we will be top 2 in the A-10 next year.

Agreed. Just about our entire deficit was a result of points off turnovers. We defended them well (er..well considering they are the best team in all of college ball). We couldn't hit the broad side of the barn in arguably the hardest arena to play in across the country. We got smacked, but it could have been worse. There were glimmers of hope on Saturday. I know i'm the eternal optimist, but things really could have been worse. We cut our turnovers in half and up our shooting percentage just a few....then we're looking at a very respectable loss instead of the blow out. All is not lost and if we get those two guys back, we're looking up over the next two years.
  8. I'm starting to believe this is really going to happen.

Lets just say they both come back, decide not to redshirt and are eligible to play starting with the Temple game. What do we need to do between now and then to make a 2nd place finish in the A-10 an at-large candidate?

Given the A-10 is way down this year and only Temple and Richmond look like realistic at-large teams we need to do a lot between now and then. We need to win the home games, that goes without saying. With all due respect to Doc and his double digit blowout predictions we need to and will beat Jax, Bowling Green and Dayton. We will lose to Duke and Missouri St. so at a minimum we have to win 2 of 3 in the Cancun tourney.

Doing that would put us at 8-6 for the non-con. Even a 13-3 A-10 record probably wouldn't be good enough although we would certainly be debatable given the composition changes on the team. Now, a 14-2 conference record and a first place finish in the A-10 would be a different story.

With all that being said, I don't think 13 or 14 wins in the conference even with these guys is realistic. To much rust plus too many road games against good teams. Still, it'll be a much more enjoyable January-March if we are in the mix then if we are middling along around .500.

This is awesome news. I think, if they both play, we'll have a pretty good idea of our chances by the end of 2010. We're not a very good team right now. Is it because we don't have the horses? Because we're inexperienced? Because kids just haven't found there niche? I dunno...but if we finish the end of the year strong, I think we'll have a good chance at a really strong conference run with the return of KM and WR. If we continue this crappy play, I think Willie and Kwamain may be enough to get us into the CBI again.
  9. Put me in the camp against redshirting them. I am sick of always waiting for next year and the time it is constantly buying Rickma before we demand results. If both players are cleared to play it is time for Rickma to produce results in the second half.

Also, if by the 12-13 season we don't have players in the program that can at least replace ( if not improve upon) the production of WR and KM........ then the Rickma era is going to be a big dissapointment. Six years in you better have brought in the talent to replace and improve upon the guys you brought in as your first true recruiting class.

+100. Screw redshirting...i want them to play now. Also agree that if Rick needs these players in two years, he hasn't done his job.
  10. Here's some facts that I got from a real good source. WR will be back at SLU by Jan 3. The Reed family and their attorney have met at least twice this month with SLU and all parties are moving forward to put this behind them. WR will have to keep his nose clean because of other issues such as academics but look for him to return soon. The main question is will he play this year or not? I've heard he will choose to play if allowed. I was told that Sr wanted him to rs and concentrate on his grades and come back next year bigger and stronger WR has decided that his first option is to play now if possible.

That would be sooo awesome. I hope you guys are right.
  11. I went with Duke 8-14. This could easily be a blowout...but I have faith in Rick. There is only so much he can do when we don't have the horses, but i'm hopeful he comes up with a defensive plan to stop these guys. Doubling down on the block will probably be a necessity and slowing down transition is a must. I think we can stop transition...we have always been able to do this...and I think we can do it against Duke too. My fear is points in the paint. The key will be to let the guards beat us. If we do that...they will still win, but I think we can keep it close. We have a lot of guards and they are damn good defenders for the most part, so you never know. Rebounding is obviously another issue, so we need a lot out of Jett, Evans, Remekun...and dare I say Ellis. I'm not confident that Rob will be able to do much for us Saturday other than rolling off the pick for a trey. I'm hoping Ellis comes out with a fire from sitting last game and steps it up in the rebounding and defending areas. It could get ugly, but i'm ready for Saturday!

  12. I have deleted the girl's name. Thanks to those who pointed it out.

I think it's bull$hit to erase the girls name. If our boys can get dragged through the mud, why not this chick? (this isn't an attack on you Steve, it's your board and I respect everything you've done for the Billikens...it just pisses me off that this chick's name is not out there too.)
  13. That "Go" button is unnecessary. Just select the option you want from the drop-down menu, and it will take you there (I presume javascript must be on).

I like the go button as well and immediately noticed it missing. It is a quick way I always used to get back to the message board when reaching the bottom of the page. I can live without it though.

Edit - just noticed that there is now a link under the drop down to get me back to the main board page. That works for me.

  14. And Nashville, how are we going to finish second in conference?

I'd say a good start would be to win more games than 12 of the other teams. I'm not sure what else you want me to say. I'm not predicting a national championship here. I just find it a little absurd to mail the season in after losing two games. I've already said that NIT would be a nice accomplishment, so i obviously don't have some sort of unbridled optimism. I'm just a glass half full kinda guy and would prefer to have a positive outlook. Saying we can't even make the CBI is pretty depressing!
  15. As I said before, please give me a scenario in which we get an at-large bid this year. Win out?

Sure....as well as any other number of scenarios. Top two in A10. Beating Duke and finishing strong. I think there are a few options.

I'm not trying to argue with you. I think we just approach things very different. I'd have a hard time enjoying the season if I had your outlook.

  16. What indications have you seen that this team can win all but the Duke game in the remainder of non-conference play? We were talking about how sweet it would be to run the non-con slate except Duke before we found out our two best players were gone, and it's clear this isn't close to the same team without them. We've blown leads, gone obscene stretches without scoring, committed turnovers in the last minute of the game, been outrebounded on our home floor, and shown we have no floor leader. I'm waiting for a win against a D-I team (tonight, perhaps?) and you're talking about losing only one more non-conference game. We have to go to Portland, to Missouri State, to Cancun for three games- none of these are givens, nor are any home games for this team.

I hate to be a pessimist but I grew up a SLU fan.

And yes, mathematically, we're looking at a near impossibility to still be relevant for the postseason after losing these two games and substituting Rockhurst for a D-I opponent. Our schedule simply is not strong enough to absorb 3 or more non-conference losses without running the table in Atlantic City. I can't believe we're even talking about the NCAA Tournament at all; the term 'must win' means nothing right now, and if you disagree, please feel free to show me a scenario that demonstrates otherwise.

As somebody already alluded to, what game is there on the schedule that you feel we can't win (minus Duke)? The Cancun tourney was widely accepted as a crap tourney this year and the rest are a bunch of teams on SLU's level or below. What have I seen? Well, i have seen a tremendous improvement by this bunch over 5 games. Tremendous improvement. And we will get better. The talent is better than in most years (even without KM and WR) and the coaching is superb. To say we have no shot at an at large, IMO, is incorrect. Sure, the room for error is low, but at this point, we have 1 bad loss. How many at large teams come in with more than one bad loss? And, by the looks of things, will APSU really be a bad loss by season's end? We shall see.

Please don't confuse the above with me being naive or having some sort of delusions of graduer. The odds of this happening are low, I agree. We aren't winning a national championship this year any way you cut it. An NIT will probably be an accomplishment for this bunch. But, I sense a hint of doom and gloom and some are ready to chalk this up to another failed season with hope for the future. I'm just trying to bring some reality to the discussion. We've lost to a good OVC team and a good SEC team. I wager both will finish better than 150 in the RPI. All is not lost.
