  1. I agree Billikan. These guys need to get a life. They are making more money than I could ever dream of AND they are doing it playing professional basketball. That is a dream millions of people have everyday. These two could be great and be remembered as some of the greatest players of all time, but instead they are acting like two year olds. Who really gives a $hit "who's team" it is or how many shots per game they get. BOTH are needed to win championships..and they have won more than there fair share. Stockton and Malone never got in these dumb arguments and they will always be remembered as a hell of a combo. Everybody knows how good these two are so there is no need to "prove" themselves. I lose more and more respect for these dudes everyday....

  2. "what the hell is Soderberg's problem?"

His problem is that Marquette is essencially getting another home game. Many more people in Green Bay will be rooting for MU than southern miss...that's for sure. Why does marquette get this unfair advantage? Because they got to the final four and can afford to spend some money to have a better schedule? The bills road record sucks...we could sure use another neutral game at the Dome. I think he has a legitamate beef considering how close the conference race will be this year...

  3. That is exactly the problem I have been worried about since the coaches started talking redshirt. I really think we would be fine on the offensive end if Frericks get injured as IO could probably dominate a center with his speed. However, on defense we would really be in trouble. IO is too thin to bang with a center and Varner just doesn't have the skills IMO. However, with the tenacity of Sloan and the heart some of our players have, we may be able to compensate with a double team on the blocks. Rebounding could be a different story....

  4. Well, to answer your question, nobody really knows what to expect from this team. With the loss of Brown and Perry there are still some questions to be answered. Practice is closed for the first week, so we haven't gotten a good look at the team together yet. Anyway, to speculate....

Reports are that Reggie can stroke it from outside and has the ability to get to the hoop if necessary...hopefully picking up a lot of the scoring provided from Marque. IO has put on some pounds and is growing accustom to the American game, however he is still a little soft downlow. Though his size will create some mismatches in our favor. Sloan has been working real hard this summer and wants to prove that he is more than a role player. He was on the same team as Bonner and David Lee this summer, taking home the title in the Bonner league. We have three big men coming in, including a 7'+ center, who will all be fighting for minutes...which is a good thing. Fish will be manning the point with Clarke and Drejaj backing him up. Justin Johnson is going to be playing this year and is supposedly a very athletic foward. Hopefully this added athleticism will help us on both offense and defense. He is still a little thin and the jury is still out on his contibutions this year.

The national media has us picked to finish in the middle of the conference (what else is new), however, if everybody lives up to there potential and plays with the same intensity we saw last year, we could be the suprise team of the conference. I'm sure others can speculate a little more and better....

  5. Calipari has a point and I kinda feel sorry for the Memphis fans (although I could give a $hit less about Cal). Memphis has been doing pretty good the past few years and are on there way to becoming a consistent winner. With these shakeups, the basketball program will be in some trouble if left in C-USA. Their RPI will likely suffer tremendously from the conference schedule and therefore allow very little leaway in scheduling out of conference opponents. Not to mention that they will have to probably go looking for a new coach soon.

  6. Not much to talk about now (who'da thought I'd be saying that with practice starting this week), so I was just wondering if anybody has heard anything about Marque lately? Last I heard he was going to be playing in the NBDL. I see their season starts in less than a month so I thought someone may have some info on his status. Thanks...

  7. While I agree with you that the SLU media relations department can certainly do a better job, I don't know if the MVC fiasco could have been avoided. Officially, we have not been invited anywhere yet. From the get go, we were all pretty sure the Big East would not invite us..or at least it was a long shot. But the one thing we were all certain on was that C-USA was not where we needed to be after all these splits came about. That would leave us in a vulnerable position and we would not want to burn any brideges. If the A-10 hadn't mentioned SLU's name, the MVC is probably where we would have to go (although we all know that's not where we WANT to be). I think this could have been handled differently, but to come out from the get go and say the MVC is not even an option would have been a little premature IMO.

  8. Steve,

Whenever I open a post, I get three or four runtime errors. It still allows me to view the page, but this happens everytime i click a different post. I am using Explorer and Windows XP. Is anybody else having this problem or is it just my computer? Thanks

  9. Those are pretty much my thoughts too. I think there is a lot of speculation, but also quite a bit of excitement with the upcoming season. With these new signings and some success last year, SLU's fan base is growing and many are excited for the season. Maybe Brad just wants to have some time to get things going and make sure his team doesn't diminish the excitement by some bad/freshman mishaps. That may be a reason he says the first week will be "basketball 101". On the other hand, i know somebody mentioned it was a marketing ploy...so maybe he is trying to get something together for the fans that he needs a week to practice. Who knows....

  10. You could be right Taj, as I am not a native St. Louisan. However, I would think seeing and talking to somebody like Larry could be very big. He came from the same lower income neighborhood as these kids, went to the local university and is now making millions of dollars playing in the NBA. Not to mention starring in a rap video for arguably the most popular artist in the country. I would be thrilled to meet any NBA player for a one on one discussion. And if that player had some good things to say about a university i was planning on attending, that may influence my decision.

  11. Yeah, that sure would be nice. I know Larry comes back to campus from time to time to visit people and play pick-up games. So it appears he does some things with SLU...I'm sure UB could convince him to talk to a few kids. That would sure help with recruiting in STL.

  12. My understanding is that this was said at a Billiken lunch last week. Apparently the new marketing guy said that practice will be closed for the first week and that we won't be disappointed. I guess we think it's something to do with marketing since the marketing director made the announcement.

  13. I definetly think we need to take risks too. But we have already taken two risks. As you stated above, what if Polk's knee never fully recovered and if Liddell doesn't qualify? Then we pick up Terry and it turns out he too is injured. We have then wasted 3 out of 4 schollies. There has to be a few sure things in there...
