  1. SLUBillikens.com will be streaming the game online.

Thanks, TVACH....much appreciated. Now just to decide if I skip softball this week, or rush home for the second half. Touch decision right there.

I haven't heard back from the request I submitted, but I'll let you guys know if we can listen to earl and rammer this year.

  2. slubillikens.com has all the contact information.

Thanks so much for the help. One of these days you may find yourself leaving home and you will understand what it is like to follow SLU from another state.

For everybody else, I submitted a "support request" and will report back what I hear.

  3. You should email or call them and find out!

Who would I email? I figure the AD has better things to do (hopefully). If you can give me the appropriate contact, I'd be happy to do so and report back for the rest of out of town fans.
  4. I can't believe the first exhibition is just two days away. I'm getting pumped!

Anybody know if the exhibition games will be streaming online? How about a new arrangement with the radio deal that will allow us to listen online if video isn't available? From what I can tell, the U has made tremendous progress utilizing technology to market the program, so I hoping the years of constant "technical difficulties" are behind us.

  5. nice to know whether these are day games friendly for kids or Saturday night games; things like hunting with the guys or taking the grandkids

to Dr. Seuss Christmas program at the Peabody-

Who in the world prints tickets without times on them?

    SLU, is the answer.

I was a Vandy season ticket holder for several years and gametimes were never printed on the ticket. I hated it, but i guess more than just SLU does it.
  6. PS: Roy's photo is not displaying on my work machine. Is that universal, or does it maybe have something to do with my browser?

    I think it was a joke... :)

And I agree with Metz, actually. We call people out all the time. Her name is listed on the sports website that is a public site. She oversees marketing. Fair game. BUT...I have noticed that our marketing is improving, so I can't speak as to who's fault it is for some of the stupid decisions.

  7. 9,300 the second last year and 9,600 the last year at Scott.

Not to make excuses, but we probably need to factor the economy in there somewhere. Ticket prices go up and the economy tanks....probably has a good deal to do with it. Not that I disagree on the marketing comments though.
  8. exactly

i doubt this was the AD's drop though. he got all he could get. he needs cooperation from all concerned for a complete success.

Just curious who you mean by that. I've agreed with everything to this point, but i'm reading between the lines that you may think it is Rick's fault. That cannot be the excuse. Rick is at the mercy of the AD and SLU (as we saw with last years fiasco). So...I have to disagree that this blame lies on anybody's shoulders other than the Athletic Director or perhaps other administrators in the dept.
  9. This was a joke. They schedule the damn thing and get people out and then act surprised the kids have class and exams. Seriously?

Could you really call that a scrimmage? Cassity and Conklin couldn't be there. MM, JJ, CR, KM, and maybe more leave at about 6:45 to study for exams and for study hall. Then at about 7:00 after having the crowd ask maybe 1 silly question aloud for the players, RM says come down and meet them, they are good kids and very engaging and all, Declan comes over and says they have studying to do and have to go so make it quick. I left with the thought of F>>K YOU in my head.

The lady in front of me brought 4 kids, how pissed would I be as a parent if my kids had looked forward to this and I brought them.

Really, could they not plan something and dedicate 2-3 hours to the fans.

Oh yea, free munchies, I'm so excited.

On a good note ... We're going to fall in love with GG over the next 4 years. Endless energy and a personality and smile that doesn't seem to quit

Obviously didn't attend, but have to agree here. It's not about studying over bball, it's about the fact that it is even part of the discussion at an event like this. 2 starters don't show then the rest need to cut it early for exams? Here's an idea...have it when the rest of the country does...on a Friday night. OR...wait another week and have it after exams. How do people not think these things through? Is my fine Alma mater really run like this?

However, thanks for the reports on player development. GG sounds like he could be that tough guy with hops we've been looking for.

  10. i've been told by five different people they did not renew their tickets this year mainly because they have finally given up on being anything more than mediocre AND no one on the team they care about (i.e. no locals).

I think this just goes to show how small time we are at this point. If fans are not purchasing tickets because of a lack of STL players, they were a casual fan at best. Are there really that many high school bball fans out there that they purchase tickets simply because they are playing at a local university? I doubt any high major schools are selling tix based on local high school players.
  11. Well, I actually met and spoke with Coach Whitesell at length on the 1st day of the practice sessions for the Canada trip (Essentially HIS 1st day as well). I had a fantastic interaction with him as he seemed incredibly up beat, positive, energetic. During my personal interaction with him, which you have had zero, I found him to be someone who I would think would represent the University well to a potential recruit. After that first day, Whitesell made sure that he acknowledged me on every occasion that I was at practice...again, they type of interaction you would expect from a coach/recruiter. All positives in my opinion...AND energetic. I'm not a recruit, but he paid a bit of attention to me...wonder how that translates on the recruiting trail with someone he's really going after...

In your earlier post, you admitted that you " don't know much about SLU's recruiting, but I have a fairly decent understanding of the recruiting game and our situation isn't a good one."

Umm..which is it? You claim to not be an expert AND an expert in the same sentence.

Your perception about youth seems very out of place since you have apparently not met the man.

    Oh...and Whitesell is 51.

Just to name a few other coaches who are older than Whitesell ( who I assume you think don't have energy in recruiting)

    John Calipari 52

    Tom Izzo 56

    Rick Pitino 59

    Roy Williams 61

An expert? Never have I claimed to be an expert on this board...much less in recruiting. I am not an insider in SLU's recruiting, but I have an understanding of what recruiting entails. I assume you are just trying to be a smartass with that comment. No problem.

Please don't compare coach Whitesell to anybody on that list. 4 hall of famers? Seriously?

I have nothing at all against Whitesell and I take it that you think that I do. I have seen his interviews and he seems upbeat, positive and a great ambassador for the program. Hell, Soderberg was the nicest man you could meet, always showed up for his radio show and did charity all over town....but his recruiting pretty much sucked.

Whitesell is a retread. If he is our top recruiter, I have concerns. Yes, 51 is not young when it comes to recruiters in 2011. I will take back the word "shambles", but the fact that you cannot even acknowledge that this tremendous lack of continuity in our recruiting efforts is not a major setback is a little ridiculous.

  12. What do you base this perception on? Have you personally spoken to Whitesell to garner that opinion of him?

I have not. All I know is that he is not young. Please tell me of your personal interactions with him and what he is bringing to the table recruiting wise. Enlighten me.
  13. How does this leave recruiting in shambles? I don't know much about Crews or the inner workings of our recruiting practices but I suspect you don't either. I feel you are probably overreacting.

I guess. But we had our top assistant leave, then our second top assistant leave. I perceive Whitesell to be like Majerus....an older guy who just doesn't have as much energy as a young assistant. Then Crews comes in and we say it's going to be a one year deal...meaning he won't add anything to recruiting. So that leaves Tony, Hariman and the Majerus name. I don't know much about SLU's recruiting, but I have a fairly decent understanding of the recruiting game and our situation isn't a good one. That is a fact.
  14. Beat me to it. This cant be good for recruiting and having to replace an assistant at this point in time. Not a good situation.

What?! What the hell is going up there in STL? An assistant leaving a few days before the first practice. Wasn't he promoted to top assistant coach or something? All indications were that he was an up and coming coach. I don't want to be quick to place blame but does anybody know why he is leaving for a dead end D-League job?
  15. Obviously not having any streaming or radio it's hard to really evaluate what we learned about the Bills on this trip. Started out great, but the 2 pretty bad losses to Carleton can't be sugar coated with excuses like still learning each other, or playing 5 games in 6 days, or not having pre game planning/strategy sessions. Granted, Carleton shot 3's at a phenomenal clip in the 1st game and we were missing KM and JJ for game 2. But still it appears this team still has a ways to go to be considered a legit candidate for the big dance. It sounded/read like the guard play of MM, KM, and JJ will be the team's biggest asset. Also, it appears BC, DE, and CE made a good showing for themselves. Didn't hear much from RL and JB, however. Is it possible RM over-hyped JB? Does RL have to toughen up to play with the A-10's inside bruisers? And where did our perimiter defense go? To say the least it was a confusing trip. 3 blow outs then 2 blow out losses. Maybe Carleton being the Duke of Canada equates to a really solid mid major program in the US. But we have to beat those level of teams to have any shot at a dance invite. Agree with those who say it's not time to find the nearest bridge, but the trip definitely took a bite out of our expectations for this being a breakthrough year.

I take away that my expectations were too high for the team. It is the EXCEPTION, not the rule that teams playing late in March lose to D2 or International teams in the preseason. The first game with Carleton was a blow out. I think everybody has valid points as to the excuses for the poor play, but in the end, we did get blown out by a team that we should beat based on our (wrong?) expectations going in. Do we need a hall of fame coach to beat a substantially inferior team? Do we need our star player to beat an inferior team? I say that if we are is good as we thought, we do not.

I know i'm going to get blasted, but I had this vision that the Billikens of yesteryear were gone. What this told me was that we aren't as far along as I had assumed (probably incorrectly). I'm still pulling hard for the boys to be playing in March, but the chances in my book went from "near guaranteed" to "decent chance".

  16. Yeah blame the athletic department for something a Canadian site did. Tyoical

Go ###### urself 05. SLU has been screwing up streaming video for 4 years. Glad to hear it wasn't SLU's fault, but leave your dickwad comments to yourself.

    @SLU_Billikens

Sorry to report, but our two games against Carleton will not be streamed online. Keep up-to-date via live chat on SLUBillikens.com.

Are you ###### kidding me??? un######ingbelievable. I've been looking forward to this for two gotdamn weeks and SLU comes out on game day to say sorry, ain't happening. I can watch the ###### LaSalle game from last week, but nope...not SLU.
  18. And the most ridiculous post of the day goes to....

Why is that, "Randy"? I'm guessing you are a new fan, but we never even had highlight tapes...not to mention a tape that shows a recruit with some skills. What was it about my post that is ridiculous? Or is it that you have no reading comprehension?
