Hooz.  Reread my post.  Nowhere do I claim superior knowledge to Coach.  Superior knowledge to you?  Of course, but most of this Board can claim the same so that's no big deal.  Glad to hear that Coach says Welmer has very good post moves because I sure haven't seen them.  Instead, I see a guy who is much more comfortable, on offense, playing on the perimeter than I do in the middle.  Anyway, I get it, you probably were raving about Gillman too after he made a few 3 pointers his Freshman year.

BTW, will every tall white guy who launches 3 pointers be compared to Rob Loe?  I sure hope not.  Rob Loe was a truly talented player.  His JR year was great and his SR year even better.  As to his Freshman year, yes, he struggled alot, yes he got pushed around on this interior, yes he lacked strength, yes he launched 3 pointers... but he also played hard on the inside and did not back away from contact on the interior.  Unlike Welmer, Loe did not shy away from interior battles while still playing on the perimeter as well.  Loe's negatives had more to do with his lack of strength his Freshman.  When the improved strength and size came, along with increased technique and footwork, Rob Loe became a great player.  Welmer not only lacks the strength (similar to Freshman RL) but also lacks the desire/effort/comfort level to play and defend the interior (unlike Freshman RL) -- and Welmer is much older than Rob Loe having both a extra year of high school plus a redshirt year.  And comparisons to Cody Ellis?  Again, I don't see it.  Cody was always a forward who could rebound and defend on the interior while also being versatile enough to step outside and score.  Welmer appears to be more of a tall guard who likes to shoot from the perimeter but not dribble, pass, etc. like most other guards.

I'm curious if you think that EW just goes out on the floor and does whatever he feels like doing? He plays where the coaches put him. Desire/effort/comfort level??? puh-leeeese. Watch some film.

Greatings fellow Hoosier.  (Nice retro Pacer jersey.)  Elliott brings a skill set we haven't seen for a while at SLU, he can play with his back to the basket and can step out and hit a three.  Even Rob Loe, a logical comparison, didn't play in the paint all that often.  Elliott needs to gain a ton of muscle and he will continue to be an asset.

Hines is Hines.  He has been forced into significant minutes due to Bishop's injury and the lack of another point guard being brought onto the roster.  When Bartley left at the start of the school year, the roster was left short.  HInes plays with a lot of heart and I certainly admire his determination.  He can hit the jumper, but as you saw yesterday sometimes maybe doesn't make the wise decisions. [It is easier to second guess a decision after you already know the result.  If he sinks one or both of those threes, he is a hero today.]  (Rammer said he got hit on the elbow on the first air ball.)

Hi HoosierPal. Hines is Hines. I might add that Roby is Roby. And Rammer is the best! BANG!

That's Jackie Moon in a Tropics jersey, but now that you mention it - it does look like a retro Pacers jersey.

I hope my post didn't read like I was questioning Hines' heart. Like I said he played very well! Always plays with heart! Just seemed like he quit looking for others - and I singled out EW because he was the hot hand.

I think some more sharing from the guards, and some more made layups by everyone and this team can stun some big names in the A-10 coming down the stretch and in the tourney.

Thanks for the chat - long time reader, first time poster!

    Go Bills and E-L-E !

  3. Welmer had 18 points with 12 minutes to go in the game. Hines played well, but needs to realize he's the distributor first and find his hot shooter as opposed to trying to dribble the orange off the ball and shooting 2 air balls sandwiched around a turnover down the stretch. Hopefully that will change. Team playing so much better in spurts. Attitudes are great.
