  1. Nailed it.

And Crawford should play the most minutes, he has the best court awareness on the team, makes the offense flow, and is a legitimate threat for 3's to compliment AM.

He looked high potential last year and if it is true that his illness slowed him down earlier this year and he is looking better the last few games, then that is even a stronger point to consider him for much more action.

And Manning helps more than his stats and more than some of his brutal critics realize.

Right there with you re: Crawford though I think brutal criticism of JM is appropriate sometimes. His work at the line last night was excellent. If he can keep that % up, he's going to get some minutes.

  2. That's been my take as well. We seem to build a lead with players who are doing well, then the line-up rolls over and the guys who got us the lead disappear. Next thing you know, we have a tight game and appear clueless on offense. I certainly hope when we get into the conference schedule, the best players PLAY.

There seemed to be a couple of possession last night when the a lead had been established and UTPA was about to be in obvious foul mode and AM was not yet on the floor. Yeah, it's only one or two possessions, but it may very well have been the game. Also, there seemed to be quite a stretch in the second half where AY wasn't on the floor, we were having obvious problems scoring. I started to wonder if he was in foul trouble - nope - 2 fouls.

  3. Interesting. So defense doesn't matter, only offensive FG%? What about rebounds, assists, A/TO ratio, steals, blocks, plus intangibles that don't have a classic metric attached to it?

Sure they matter - it's one of the reasons I'd think Jolly is on the bench (his defense seems to be primarily based on his ability to take a charge) and also why Manning gets some play (although his defense was pretty awful in the SD State game - especially the end).

It's just one way to look at. My biggest takeaway from the list provided was Gillman and Yarborough need more time - does anyone really disagree with that? Gillman is a potential liability on defense, but he is putting it in the bucket.

  4. Long time lurker. Happy to be here despite the on court performance.

Here's a brief look at what I'd like to see

BJ & DR haven't been cutting it - BENCH

AY isn't proving the need for more minutes, but the prospect is still tantalizing.

AG, MY, & MB need increased minutes

Honestly, if you're putting it in the bucket - let's find a way to get you on the court, here are the FG%'s for the team thru 10 games:

    Player - FG%

    MY - .582 - needs more time

    AG -. 516 - needs more time

RA. - 481 - needs more time, might have to play some five due to JM being JM; draws fouls, needs to improve at the line

    MC - .471 - same

    TL - 458 - same, maybe a slight increase,

AY - .388 - same, waiting to see this, growing tired of waiting

AM - .374 - same, move to the 2 - will JC do this?

    MB - .355 - increased minutes as the 1

JM - .348 - decreased minutes; someone has to play some at the 5 other than AG

    BJ - .333 - bench

MR - .300 - someone needs to take some minutes at 1 other than MB and AM

    DR -.250 - bench

That said, if things aren't working out (improving), JC is going to have to play with this all year long
