  1. I also agree that JC should show a certain amount of loyalty to GG and other upperclassmen that have put in the sweat the last couple years. Freshmen should earn their stripes, and have to take that spot from the upperclassmen. Have heard from a couple players that GG and RA have fought like alley cats for that starting spot, but RA has been banged up for a little while, and that in crunch time in a tight game RA would probably be the better option due to his skill set and being able to get almost any shot he wants in the halfcourt and ability to finish through contact.

  2. imo glaze had no business on the floor last year. it was painful to watch his minutes beyond his enthusiasm. he truly did not grasp the system and spent a lot of time just running and bouncing around. he indeed did it with great energy and enthusiasm, but he was always the first one subbed out and the vast majority of times never played again until the second half when the beginning of the first half was repeated. he never played in crunch time.that said, he has ramped up his game tremendously and while he still is making fundamental errors though not nearly as many, he is making up for that with with an obviously increased basketball IQ and the highest fitness and athleticism on the team.

    +1

I like very much what I have seen from GG so far, but very interested to see how it transfers over to higher level. An energy player is normally just that. He is in possibly the best shape of his life and to me that means he will bring that much more energy, but I still think when it counts the 4 spot will require more skill then energy, especially late in a tight game. So far we have had a d3 opponent and a depleted and undersized d1 that GG's energy should have been effective against. After all he was physically bigger then what SEMO had.

  3. This has nothing to do with votes or lack thereof. If you please check the Team Rankings site. On their home page for NCAA basketball, they have a "College Basketball Preseason ratings for 2013-2014." Before the Fontbonne game we were listed as #35, today (probably it changed before today) we are listed at #29 in that list. This board is likely to be interested in noting that VCU was listed prior to their first game at # 13, and now they are listed at #20. Food for thought here. To further confuse things, the same site Team Rankings has a page for the Overall Rankings, they have just released their overall rankings for 11/8/2013, SLU is listed as overall #16, VCU is listed at #26. Please check the pages, the numbers are correctly posted here. Now, it makes absolutely no sense that in one place of team rankings we are listed at # 29 and in another we are listed at #16. What this indicates most likely is that this site uses different methodology in their preseason previews, and in their main overall rankings list. It also indicates without a shade of a doubt that before playing starts in earnest all of this ranking business is largely a matter of guessing and projection. They need to see the results of a number of games actually played to establish a team ranking. There is no need to lose sleep over this kind of thing at this time.

Old Guy, nice post. I don't pay attention to preseason rankings. In my opinion that is how the media guys sell whatever they may be selling. Talent is one thing, but until these guys get on the hardwood and all the personalities, game strategy, and the like come together, its anybody's guess on season outcome.

  4. HoyaBilliken it is not a matter of thinking whether it is right or not, it is not right, period. It is not right, period. By this I mean if there is no cause for dismissing the committed students other than getting someone with better sta

ts or prospects. I am not debating the fact that other schools do this regularly, that is the way they wish to operate and it is up to them to deal with this. I just do not think it is a good way to do things on the long run. For example, Kentucky had a totally stellar roster in their basketball team 2012-2013 and did not make the NCAA tournament.

Old Guy, I actually agree with you that it is not right, and not the direction we should be going, but I have a hard time thinking of a high level program that isn't doing it. So question should probably be is this the direction we are headed.

  5. Acccording to Timmerman, Agbeko is banged up and wont play tomorrow night. I wonder if the staff will think about redshirting him

No redshirt here. Kid will contribute mightily this year. From what I heard this young man suffered a dislocated finger on his shooting hand several weeks ago and recently suffered a seperated shoulder or similar injury.

  6. The letter of intent is a one year agreement for the school. SLU has already dumped players because they were not good enough basketball players. It will happen again.

I am just being honest about the situation ahead of time. Many of the same people saying they want no part of it will twist themselves into knots trying to justify it when it does happen. We will start getting posts about how the staff already knew some player was being a problem child or was homesick. Maybe we will get a kid all of sudden deciding to redshirt like at ND. About the only person who will be consistent in their outage will be Roy.

It may not happen this year, but it is coming. It is what big time college hoops is now. It is far from perfect, but I have made peace with it.

This is the norm in big time college ball today whether we like it or not. SLU may have to implement this strategy at some point especially if we expect to be in the Big East.Whether we think this is right or not is a whole different story.
