I would also be 'offended' at 2:37 am (granted, he's probably not on central time) if someone said they were going to eat OUR guards alive on a foreign board, and he makes a reasonable point re: the players they've already handled.
That being said........ our guards are better than yours. Leggo.
Your guards are very good, but better than UNM's? I really don't think so. I've seen both teams play this year and I expect a good hard fought game but really New Mexico does have the better guards. And better post. That said, it's extremely hard to win on the road in college basketball. Good luck Billikens (whatever that is)...

If no one else will, I would really like to congratulate UNM for its win the other night. UNM's fans' interest in posting on the Billiken's board is a testament to how far SLU has come this year. It is patently obvious that UNM fans want to parade their own program on this board so they can rub shoulders with a program they would like to count as peers. Kuddos to them! UNM is a very respectable program, and I feel wonderful knowing that UNM is looking up to us and trying to emulate our program. It is rare for any mid-major to be in this spot, to be a key leader among strong mid-majors, and so I think all SLU fans should really breathe it in! To be able to count the UNM faithful as SLU followers is an honor. Thank you UNM, thank you very much!
Keep it up and your team may well be in the same league as the UNMs of the basketball world. You've got a long way to go though.

I don't get it. Perhaps the crowd affected some calls but I didn't see it. I mean, what are SLU fans complaining about? You just aren't going to draw fouls (although you did get one) by shooting 3 pointers. We drew fouls by driving and we gt called for several charging violations, many of them could have been called on SLU.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't unless the neutral fan knew nothing about basketball. UNM usually takes many more 3 point attempts but the SLU defense was overplaying so aggressively (it really was their only chance) that UNM did what good teams do: we adjusted. Our guards started slashing and your guards had no answer so they fouled. Maybe coach Alford taught the old dog a few new tricks last night.

It's just amazing that you are are still blaming the refs. There were bad calls for and against both teams!! What about that blocked 3 pointer with 7 seconds left??? The refs actually TRIED to let you guys win that game.
The fact of the matter is that your team stood around the arc and heaved up bricks while our guards drove to the hole and forced the refs to make a call. Many times it was a charge. But you can't just look at the FT disparity and assume that the refs were jobbing you. Seriously, you guys would make great byu fans.

With 1:40 to play, New Mexico got the stop when Ellis didn't put enough on a pass to Cassity and Kendall Williams stole the ball and laid it in to put New Mexico up 60-55. Ellis answered with a 3 that made it 60-58, and Conklin then drew a charge that gave SLU a chance to tie the game with less than a minute to play. But after working the ball around, Jett drove the baseline and was called for a charge with 53 seconds left, and that chance was lost.
Williams made one of two free throws with 34.5 seconds left, giving SLU one more chance to tie, but Ellis' next 3 missed. Williams kept SLU's hopes alive by making just one of two free throws with 14.6 seconds left, and Ellis was fouled trying a 3 with 7.4 seconds left. Ellis made the first two but missed the third —
A couple of points: 1: Kendall didn't just lay it up but threw down a Pit igniting dunk. 2: That charge that Conklin drew was weak and 3: Gordons foul on Ellis's 3 was most bogus. The refs gave you every chance to pull that game out!!!

I think you have to forgive their fans some. They are just not used to big games or big time atmospheres. They haven't been to the big dance in twelve years and this is the Fat Man's fifth year there and the first real good team he's had. This is all new territory for them and they don't know how to react when things don't go their way. They're like children who aren't used to success or the failure that can sometimes go with that when you are trying to move up the ladder.
Consider that UNM fans have packed the Pit for an eternity, we've been in wars for conference championships in front of 22,000 in Provo, huge games in places like the Thomas and Mack and Viejas in recent years, and it's just a different level that Lobo fans are at. We know big time basketball and big time battles. SLU folks don't. They got a lesson in it on Saturday, but they don't know how to take it yet. Their first stage was denial. Let's see if they progress.

Shoot 18 shots from 3 point range, you won't get fouled a bunch. Drive to the hole possession after possession and force the team to either play perfect defense, give up an easy score, or send you to the foul line. It's pretty simple. Our strategy worked and theirs didn't. Too bad so sad. Guess our coach is just better than theirs.

Really? Conklin had 20 and 9. Gordon had 18. I would hardly call those b!tchmaking numbers. Every offensive foul on unm was deserved. I would happily go back and watch the game and point that out.

We're you even paying attention? The biggest acting job of the night had to go to unm. Just because a team takes a charge doesn't mean they flop. You can't face the facts that the lobos played like sh!t and got the the calls.
Ok, whatever. All I can say is that we would have won by more if it werent for the refs keeping it close. Good luck in the AC-10, losers. I have a horrible feeling that, like other UNM defeated teams, you will start showing your true colors by dropping easy games. I hope I'm wrong.

I can appreciate you being a diehard billeken (whatever that is) fan. But you just sound like a total pvssy by playing the ref angle. Are you Mormon? because you sound like a typical byu fan. Why don't you face the fact that there is a valid reason that UNM got to the line more than SLU! And for the record, I was cursing the refs myself. How many offensive fouls were called on UNM? What happened on that play that Gordon made Conkiln his b!tch?

I'm starting to think majerus was high when he mentioned lobo fans being good basketball fans. You don't even know the rules. The refs called a charge on the billikens when the player's feet were off the ground.
Why don't you go back and see who had the most offensive fouls called against them. Drew Gordon made Conklin look like the slow punk that he is and they called him for some BS travel (I guess... I couldn't hear why the call went against UNM but whatever). The bottom line is that UNM took it to SLU. Period. UNM drove more and SLU looked like the pvssies that we all knew they were by playing out of position and tying to flop. Sure the flops fooled the hapless refs a few times but more often than not they had to blow the whistle and send the better team to the line.

Well, had you guys showed up against Santa Clara, we'd have seen it firsthand in Anaheim. I give UNM credit for winning the game...but I'd take my chances anywhere, anytime in a rematch. Sounds like you would too.

Win on a neutral court? I think not. Why don't you take a close look at the replay and find the REAL reason for the free throw disparity. Lobos were called for more BS charges than I've ever seen. If not for the refs, the lobos win by 10+!!!
