That article was nothing short of horrible. From a writing standpoint, a high school freshman should be able to write better than that. Even more egregious was the fact that the writer of the article repeatedly wrote that KM and WR were suspended for a sexual assault. Since that couldn't be proven by the STLPD or the SLU conduct board, they weren't suspended for sexual assault. If they had, they would have been expelled permanently from the school, not given a suspension.

That writing made me want to hurl. But I thought I heard Willie Sr. say on KFNS maybe, that the conduct board gave him one year for a sexual assault. I do not know if that means the same thing as rape.

[Why Expel vs Suspension]

My semantics say suspension.... you're suspended you don't need to re-apply. You serve your suspension and come on home. Expelled/expulsion or no longer enrolled means you need to reapply, or you've been kicked out of the club rather than you've been suspended for two months please don't come to the meetings. No offense, Bonwich, but you're sounding a little like Clinton asking "depends upon what your meaning of "is" is?" And another thing I don't get is if you've been expelled why do you need a release from your scholie? For all practical pursposes, KM is no longer a student at SLU.... they unenrolled him (if that's even a word). If he has to reapply doesn't that make him a complete free agent? A guy who's recruited here still needs to apply, right? What's the dif betwee applying and reapplying? Point being they didn't need to put either of these kids through a reapplication process. To me a suspension would have seemed a whole lot better way to deal with this than expelled.

SLU72 does have a point here. I got a two day suspension for smoking in high school. I did not have to reapply. Reapply sounds like expulsion.

There is no self-despair or wallowing here, and no seeking in vain for blame. All parties involved seem to have some of the blame for this.

However, I'm not just going to forget how this was handled by the powers that be that could have handled this with more fairness and "move on."

The whole thing just pisses me off. Pissed pissed pissed. If I was Willie's dad I would be pissed too. It is hard to know if the girl is telling a story, but Willie's dad obviously believes him. Everyone agrees the whole process sucked. Willie's dad seemed maddest that the girl had a lawyer and he did not. Kwamain has one of the best lawyers in town. Why would SLU give him a lawyer and not Willy?
