  1. For those of you in the St. Louis area, contemplating staying home and watching the game on CBS Sports Network...

I personally advise that you come and join us at Chaifetz Arena. You will you be witnessing a great basketball game, and be present for most likely the largest and loudest crowd at Chaifetz Arena. In addition, (I believe this has been stated before) everyone in attendance will be receiving a free WHITE OUT t-shirt on their seat when they arrive, and the halftime act is even better than Red Panda. Take a look....

CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE 28TH. BEAT X.

    GO BILLS!

  2. Give us a report 05! If they are not there now ( it is a bit early) I am hoping they come as it gets closer to game time!

There are about 50 kids here now. We are all having a great time.

Sorry having a big pep rally on Mardi Gras vs Fordham is a huge waste of resources

It's actually not.... Believe it or not, not all students wake up and drink at 7am. We have joined forces with Billikens After Dark and are throwing this pep rally to entertain the students that don't go down to Soulard.

  3. Maybe someone from the athletic department or coaching staff could address the various fraternities and sororities at their respective chapter meetings - tell them about the team, how we're trying to establish a true home court advantage, and tell them that we need them to show up, wear blue, make noise and be rowdy. Let them know that when they look back on their college years, going to the games and having a great time with their friends will be among their fondest memories...but they actually have to go to the games in order to make those memories.

You'd have a captive audience to send your message to, and sometimes with Greeks, a personal appeal can be effective.

Unfortunately. Already has been done. It was a great idea though, and we will definitely do it again next year.

You probably all do not know this, but Coach Majerus went to the Greek dorm and spoke to a group of 100+ greeks, Q & A style. It was an amazing night, alot of fun. He did the same thing in the freshman dorm. We bought pizza for everyone too. We noticed immediate results at the next game, but it just needed to continue on after that. Great idea though Box! Love it. Putting it on my list.

  4. Hey everyone,

I believe it was Billiken Roy who mentioned that it would be nice to find out what our in-game promotions and halftime events will occur throughout the upcoming games. So in response I am here to tell you that this Saturday is the annual Royal Banks of Missouri BABY RACE. We have a great field of 8 babies ready to rumble on Saturday afternoon.

I think announcing promotions is a great idea, and as the basketball team evolves, so will our promotions. I have already been trying to educate fans through our social media sites. If you have not already please like us on Facebook, at http://www.facebook.com/Billiken.Athletics. You will stay up to date on all things Billiken basketball related.

We will be distributing Billiken Mardi Gras beads on Saturday, as well as having a pavilion pep rally starting at 11am for students only. FREE HOTDOGS AND HAMBURGERS, CHIPS, DRINKS, AND COOKIES.... All thanks to Billikens After Dark. Hopefully this will encourage students to leave Soulard and come cheer on the Bills before Saturday night festivities begin. Hope this helps.

  5. one more thing, did anyone ever think to ask the greeks why it wasnt cool to be a part of the blue crew and what would make it cool? whether slu or the existing blue crew wanted to admit it, they need the greeks. figure out how to bring them in. it is the deal clincher.

The personality differences between the majority of Greeks and the former Blue Crew leaders probably could not have been further apart.

These are very good observations. We have tried doing greek events, we even went so far as to bring on a greek executive to our SLUnatic board this year. Things have not panned out as planned. Great idea. Extremely difficult to execute. For some reason, I was told it happened many years ago, the bridge was broken between the greeks and the blue crew. Keep the ideas coming. I am taking notes, and will be working on them for next year.

  6. I'm going to disagree with a lot of you about our athletic department's marketing. The AD (and school) have stepped up their marketing game in the past few years. People need to realize that there simply isn't the money to do more than what they have. The people in the AD right now are working very, very hard to put this program forward, but they aren't getting paid like their peers at BCS schools, they don't have those budgets to work with, and they don't have the advantage of a program that has been winning consistently.

There are little things that could be different, but hell, I just went to a game at Memphis, a state school, top-level program that plays in an NBA arena, and they have their own dog and pony show kind of stuff. I'm not saying all of this to stick up for anyone - there are only a few people left (Declan, Janet, and Fr. Grollmes) from my years (2001-2005), and are all doing a fine job at what they do - I just don't think that we're a few minor gameday experience tweaks away from selling out a season. Our closest peers are Dayton and Xavier, and I lived in Cincy for 3 years and have been to tons of games at each and can tell you that they're not doing anything in terms of marketing or gameday that SLU is not doing. I'd even argue SLU is doing more.

As for the students, I get it because I graduated not too long ago and I'm more than familiar with their long-standing apathy. Back then, though, the excuse was that games were inconvenient to get to because they were at Savvis/Scottrade. They're out of excuses now. They have free food given to them before games. All games are free, with a $10 fee baked deep into a bigger fee in a much bigger bill that their parents will never, ever notice. There is nothing more SLU can do for students; the culture needs to build up within them. They're going to continue to whine and ***** and moan about homework or frat/sorority meetings or whatever, but they're going to find excuses not to go. The culture simply has to change, and maybe someone (hint, hint) forcing the issue by bombing the campus with an open letter could be a good spark to get it going.

As for the community, I'm perplexed. SLU was top 10 in attendance throughout the 90s and this team is better than most of Spoon's teams, and probably just a slight notch down from his best couple teams- arguably. I don't know what people want.

    Finally. Great post. Best part....

"they don't have the advantage of a program that has been winning consistently."

  7. I hear alot of criticism on this board right now. Let's talk SOLUTIONS. Rather than ***** and whine about the students, tell me what I can do better to market games to students. We have tried alot of different things and have found success with some, and failure with others.

Let's remember, it was not only the student section that was quiet last night. The ENTIRE arena was seating on their hands, as usual. We have added in-game video board's (ex. "LETS GET LOUD", DEFENSE!) and continue to play music after a big call... leading into an official timeout.

The SLUnatics show up to BIG games (Dayton, Washington, X), now we just need to find the solution on how to communicate the importance of showing up for Fordham, or Richmond. My solution? Continued success on the court.

The Fordham attendance will impress people. Just wait for X. The T-shirts look great. The atmosphere is going to be amazing, and everyone is going to forget about the Richmond game. GO BILLS. GO SLUNATICS. WE ARE ALL BILLIKENS.

  8. I maybe wrong, but in past years when we had the Blue Crew, they would post on here and tell us what they were doing to get students to the game. Not so much from who's ever top dog with the SLUNATICS (like this name better). But this week, even though it's not X and Temple and ESPN's cameras won't be there, SLUNATICS should be out in full force and show the Bills some appreciation for their work this season. C'mon, people, we are knocking on Heavens Door for the first time in 11 years, it's time to get excited! Da Vola/Da Love, Eastside, and Backhand need to get a little more fired up as well. Suggestion, give West Pine Jim the Dickie V ride around the Fetz.

I know the President of the SLUnatics really well. I'll talk to him and see what he says. He usually has really good ideas.

  9. So, I have to pick up a ticket for my brother. I want to just pick one up there. What is the liklihood this could be a faulty plan due to the game selling out?... OR... does anyone have a ticket they are not using?

THIS JUST IN.... THE GAME WILL BE A SELL OUT!

    WAKE UP PEOPLE!

There are only single seat available, and a few student tickets. All which will be picked up tomorrow before the game.

If you don't have a ticket, sorry. The ticket office opens at 10am.

    GOOD LUCK!

    GO BILLS!

    WEAR BLUE!

  10. It was a poorly written sentence, but I think someone's eyes are a little tired from reading law books all night.

I LOVE the Blue out, but as a student, if you tried to get me to wear anything but my jank-ass majestic Bills jersey, we were dancing.

I apologize for my sentence structure. I wrote the email late last night after the game.

The idea behind saying you should be dressed in blue gets the idea of wearing blue in students mind. We will NOT be distributing T-shirts to anyone, so I wanted to ensure that the students showed up in blue. We will have 5,000 Rally Towels, though. I put up picture of the towels up on Facebook. Check them out... WEAR BLUE. GO SLU.

  11. Hello Billiken Fans,

The SLUnatics have been nominated as one of the top 80 student sections in the nation. There will now be a public vote until February 12th to determine the Sweet 16, and the voting will continue after that.

Now is your chance to show your school spirit and support the SLUnatics. Everyone is welcome to vote once per day. Please feel free to send this out to any family members, colleagues, or any other Billiken Fans.

  12. I am not sure of the reason but it seems she likes to recruit players from other states. The biggest disappointment is that she seems to recruit players who are not big scorers. The player she got from St. Joes (Hanlen) averaged10 points or less her senior year. All the players in this year's class averaged less than 10 points their senior year. It seems she never gets players from Incarnate Word and very few from other area teams. Other than Theresa Lisch and some others from Illinois, she rarely gets the better players from the immediate area.

    Just a quick fact check.

Hanlen, is now a junior at Mizzou. She did not graduate, she transferred. Not sure how many points she averaged though.
