  1. I implied one of those reasons, or a combo of all three. Please read the message. Upbringing, may or may not have anything to do with it. That being said::::

Glass house? Really? Do not make excuses for anyone! That biblical quote is represents a good lesson not to live by a mob's interpretation of the law, specifically adultery. But in this case...when the police are called to a party/gathering at a dorm, apartment, house (or whereever) in the middle of the night, it is never for a good reason. Something most likely suspicious happened that night... I don't what exactly happened but I pray they didn't assult anyone. I hope for damn sure no one looked they other way and let something happen because in many ways that is just as bad. If they did then they should have been expelled permanently! Getting drunk and partying is always fun. But sometimes getting drunk and partying can cost you dearly! It is thankfully a rare circumstance but I have seen that happen to people! The smart people will always learn their lessons, be responsible, and never let it happen again. And of course, some people become angry and lash out and the incident will haunt them for years. I sincerely hope WR can do better someplace else. But at the end of the day he has no one to blame but himself. He is losing valuable D1 experience and cannot get that back. I believe he truly needs it to become a legit NBA prospect.

In conclusion, I like to hope that the whole incident was simply blown out of proportion because of intoxication; Or even perhaps the accused had some axe to grind.. But if it wasn't the case, and something dishonorable and unethical happened, they truly got light punishment. SLU is a Catholic/Jesuit institutuion. Nothing like this should be swept under the rug like nothing happened. That might happen at some other state school, but not SLU!

Unless you know WR personally and how he was raised this was uncalled for. Most of us during our lifetime have put ourselves in situations, especially where booze is involved, that could have been embarassing or unseemly if we'd been caught. We who live in glass houses should not cast stones, or let he who has not sinned cast the first stone.

  2. Willie has a hard time hitting free throws. His endurance has always been questionable. At K-State he will not be a star. The best he could home for is to be a key support player off the bench.

By the way, Reed is totally a knucklehead! We were all 19 years old once but only a very few get into this kind of trouble. Age is not an excuse. In most cases this trouble is the result of bad upbringing, immaturity, alchohol, or a combination of all three. If KM has any brains (and I believe he does), he will do some serious soul searching, and will chose to come back to SLU.

  3. Posting this as a new topic.. The other one is getting cluttered.

Willie will not be coming back according to his father. He insists Wille did nothing wrong and there will be no letters of apology! Mitchell may be back in January. I guess he wrote the letters. I think Willie can be replaced. Mitchell is/was most definitley the heart of the team and is not so easily replaced. It is fortunate we have a good recruiting class. I just hope they are not turned off by all of this nonsense! SLU did the right thing. The only ones to blame are the players.

  4. Terrible day!

  5. CS definitley needs to show improvement. He had flashes of brilliance but will need to be consistent. KC did fine last year although I like to see better shooting. He played a lot of minutes and he usually kept the turnovers to a minimum. Naturally, KM is the heart of that team. Everything will start with KM. But KM needs KC as a solid backcourt partner and backup. I think he will fit the bill. KC was a bit of a gunner in high school and I certainly don't want to see that at the D1 level, but I want him to shoot more than he did last year.

  6. Well, when we see him for the 2011-2012 season he may be a bit bigger by then. With three years of eligibilty starting then he will be a very experienced player by the time he reaches his senior year. RM is simply investing in the future.

  7. Lets not put the kid up on too high of a pedestal. He has potential but he is going to play in the US where D1 teams play tighter defense. He definitley has game. I hope he gets into a good summer program to start his transition.

  8. The Billikens did much more than most anyone expected this year. The boys showed a lot of heart and I think we can expect more good things next season. Manpower became more and more depleted as the season went on. When a team loses 4 scholarship guards during the year then fatigue will set in. My deposit for season tickets next year is paid and I can't wait!!! Have a great off-season and congrats again.

  9. This is the article from December talking about Loe's visit to Saint Louis:

NEW ZEALANDER ROB LOE GETTING BIG EAST ATTENTION

December 1, 2009 by NBE Blogger · Leave a Comment

    by RAY MERNAGH

Rob Loe is a 6-foot-11 post player from New Zealand getting heavy interest from a bevy of high-majors (and some mid-majors that have past histories with non-US bigs). It was reported in other places that Loe would be enrolling at IMG Academy in December but that doesn’t look like it will happen.

IMG’s Dan Barto compared Loe’s game to Brad Miller’s in his prime (of the NBA and Purdue), saying Loe can shoot it, has a back to the basket game with some finesse, and trails the play really well.

Loe is getting ready to take visits and according to a source close to his situation plans on looking at Pittsburgh, Colorado, St Louis and Georgia Tech.

It’s possible Loe will take/need a fifth year if he does end up coming to the US. If that ends up being the case a strong possibility as far as a landing spot for him would be Notre Dame Prep.

Loe averaged 18.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in four games at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championships last summer. Pitt coach Jamie Dixonwas the head coach for the USA’s U19 team that went 9-0 in the World Championships, winning the goald medal in the event, which was played in Auckland, New Zealand.

  10. Here is the web site of the CBI, which seems to be experiencing more server trouble than Billikens.com tonight

    http://www.gazellegroup.com/events/cbi/index_main.htm

Direct PDF to the bracket (for whenever it is posted)

    http://www.gazellegroup.com/events/cbi/cbi10_bracket.pdf

The group that puts the thing together is in Princeton, NJ...which I find amusing.

Amazing!! I am sure a home game was hard to pass up. Revenue for the school, post season experience, etc...

    It is kinda surprising though!

  11. The Bills got out played in the second half down the stretch. There are no two ways about it. The defensive adjustments Temple made were spot on. Temple and SLU are very similar teams except Temple has older, more developed players right now. IT wasn't the refs or coaching. It was the more experienced team that beat us. Fernandez is a very crafty player and he was the key last night although not the top scorer. He touched the ball nearly everytime down the floor and really set the offense. He also knows how to draw fouls and can hit the all important mid-range jumper. The Billikens will get there starting next year.

  12. Billiken defense is pretty good and is ranked high in the country for points allowed. I think our defensive pressure will give Dayton some problems. Dayton will certainly adjust but they are playing at a place where the Bills are very tough. My main concern is the Billiken offense. We have got to score.. They cannot afford to fall behind this team early like the Bills tend to do. Lets hope for a good Billiken FG % !!! AND....if it isn't too much trouble I would like to see a decent FT %

  13. MVC is a 2nd tier league? What in the good lord's name are you talking about? They have a great history and great schools with numerous NCAA tourney appearances. Carbondale was in the the Elite 8 just a couple years ago. Creighton has also been a fixture in the tourney. Many of the schools also have numerous NIT appearances. I like the A10 as well. I like that SLU is in the A10 but if the kids suffer with schoolwork then it has to stop. Travel is the greatest problem. Hopefully tutors can help the boys catch up. Also, some might argue that the A10 is basically on the same level as MVC anyway.

  14. Good stuff with the going back 20 years.

Seriously. I am not putting down Temple, Rhody or St. Joes. As mentioned, Temple was a top program (often Top 20) under Chaney and I do think they will be again. Trouble is: for SLU, it is difficult to establish a real rivalry with a large public school from Philly - especially one with football aspirations. We've been burned with Cincy, Louisville, etc regarding good basketball program seeking conferences based largely on football. Other public schools closer to home would be better rivals than Temple.

As to St. Joe and RI, again, they have been quite good in the past. As mentioned, RI in much more distant past. SLU has not been that good - in modern times - and I am not at all saying SLU is better than certain A10 schools and is too good for the A10. In response to fellow SLU fans (which is the purpose of this Board), playing other small Jesuit schools (Chicago Loyola, Detroit and Creighton) can offset the loss of St. Joe if SLU were to change yet again. Frankly, I am disappointed that St. Joes has not made a bigger financial commitment to winning and that they still play in a 4000 seat venue. Villanova has always been the better the program but I expected more of St. Joe. Going undefeated and nearly getting to the Final Four again is not my expectation but I did expect that St. Joe would challenge X more than they have in recent years.

If you want to defend the A10 so much, then brag about the A10's TV schedule which is killing our basketball program. Remind us of the benefits for playing the Conf Tourney in a non-convenient and expensive location before empty seats. Explain how the A-10 decides which 3 teams we play twice each year and how fair that is? What is the conference doing to establish acceptable "floors" for the conference teams: scheduling criteria to prevent the bottom schools to be RPI killers.

As to SLU, we have been a middle of the road program in the A10. Not claiming to be world beaters these past 5 years or so. Unlike other teams in the conference, though, we have had success in the recent past (1990s), we played and held our own in top conferences (Great Midwest & Conf USA), we had played in a 20,000 NBA quality facility where we would play before 12,000 fans for bigger games, we spent $85 million on facilities and in building a state of the art, on-campus facility which holds 10,600, that even in "down years" like this past decade, we averaged more fans per game than most A10 schools get and nearly double what many A10 schools can even accomodate but don't fill, we have not been on any type of NCAA probation and/or the subject of investigations like UMass, St. Bonnie and others, we had one of the more lucrative TV contracts until the A10 entered into the currect TV contract, we hired RM and, once again, are on the rise.

So put that in $&*( and start reading other things that don't cause your blood pressure to soar.

The A10 is a good conference for SLU to be in based on the competition. Geographically it is certainly a problem but I think SLU does fit in well because of the enrollment and the fact that the majority schools in the A10 are Catholic. SLU's administration especially like the Catholic schools. Why do you think we would play a Div II school like Rockhurst? The A10 has a pretty decent RPI as a whole and SLU will continue to be more competitive as long as RM continues to draw the talent. Mo-Valley might be an option but don't like most of the schools there except for Creighton.
