Sorry I don't know what APR means. I am confused what you mean with players leaving and having problems at other schools hurts us, because I for one would rather not have those players on our team. I think you mean other schools won't want them? Gillman can go to grad school, fine, but he doesn't have to do it on SLU's dime. Scholarships are year to year and no one will judge Ford for taking away a scholarship from the bottom 2 player on our team to pay for his scholarship.

    LOL

Worst ten seconds of my week processing that first paragraph before moving down a line...

Are we going to have to play this same paranoid game when Groce is canned?

Nah. The Illinois power brokers would not be okay with Ford. I suspect they will try to make a splash hire if Groce is fired.

I actually dont know how good we would have been with Tatum.  If all the teams double teamed him every possession, I am not sure the likes of Milik, Bartley, Miles, Roby could have scored on the other 3 defenders.

And Crews would still be here.  Best recruiting miss in SLU history IMO

Great point. It worked out well for us.

I question why you didn't have a problem with the analysis when I made the post but do now after Tatum has a huge game?

Nothing has changed.  He's still a high floor, low ceiling player who is out of position in college.  It is making him look worse than he is.  Doesn't change the fact that you are a homer for him.  I think Tatum gets picked in the 7-9 range.

I did have a problem with your analysis then, as evidenced by my initial response stating he could still go #1 overall.

Calling me a homer is inaccurate. I'm a homer for SLU. Tatum passed on his chance to be a legend in this city. However, I cannot deny that he is a supremely talented basketball player.

You realize at the beginning of the season Tatum was a top 3 pick.  In the last month he fell down to 8, 9, & 10 on most draft boards.  A couple good games and now he is up to 5 & 6.  Tatum's perception in the media is not great, especially for a Duke product.  His rundown starts with his weaknesses not with his strengths.  No other top 5 pick is getting that type of treatment.

I don't really care about the draft boards you're seeing online, especially since you and others were "dropping" him after a dozen games played. An offensive talent like Tatum will be drafted closer to #1 overall than falling out of the lottery. He has been incredible the last two games and I fully expect that to continue.

NC st does have one of the 2 best guards in the nation on their team.

Coach K is wasting Tatum.  He may fall out of the lottery at this rate.

Based on the stats so far and his potential is that enough to be a first round pick?

I had to revisit. These two posts will live on forever. Truly remarkable.

If Elliot Welmer decides to transfer then I am wrong, however if you dont see a pattern with Ford, he constantly praises the guys he wants to stay, and doesn't play or talk about the others.

You literally have no idea who Ford wants to stay or potentially leave. Just stop.

Leech's passing is fine. He's just allergic to rebounding and defense. But when you have the offensive and athletic tools he has, you're going to be given every opportunity to improve your weak areas. I just don't think it will be in high school. He's not being held accountable at Poplar Bluff.

That's really not uncommon for good high school players. Leech will be more than fine.

I did some research which was difficult since he transferred, a lot of articles on him seemed to be deleted/ the links stopped working, even ESPN. From what I can understand, he committed to Miami at around a top 40, got his ranking dropped to around 80, then decided to stay home instead of Butler, which for some reason knocked him out of top 100 from ESPN, and then others followed. I guess I am only bringing this up since he seems to be a huge sleeper, and I think he might be our top scorer next year. Him and Bess are legitimate 4* who should have just as much potential as Goodwin and French. Ford is absolutely right when he says we have a top 10 class coming in if including the transfers

You realize the transfers have already played in college, right? We can look at those results instead of arbitrary high school rankings.

In regards with that bennet kid, he thinks he already made it. His posts on twitter make it seem that he thinks people care what he has to say being a high school reporter. Regardless, why is bad for him to announce it was being cancelled? That is where I don't understand. Did Ramey go, well he says its cancelled so I should cancel it or did they want to be the first to say it?

Mr. Ramey doesn't want anyone stealing his thunder (of course in reality it's his sons big announcement, but Mr. Ramey doesn't view it that way). I'll stop there. I think you get the point.

Well what is the explanation to why he isn't starting over a walk on? Well now he is injured but before.

Probably because the walk on is better. Not starting/playing someone is totally different than asking them to leave the program. Comparing the two is foolish.

Is that necessarily bad? If a kid doesn't want to go to college is spending their 20's playing in the D league a bad gig. If I could go back in time and be 20 again and had the choice of making 100k a year in a real job or playing in the D league for 40k (Don't know the average D league salary just throwing out a guess) I'd play ball. You have plenty of time to in your life to work.

Not at all. I didn't mean for it to come across that way. In fact, I could see that option becoming more popular.

I'm just saying kids are less likely to leave college early if they don't believe they are ready to play in the NBA. I was specifically addressing why players like Perry Ellis and Franklin Mason stay the full 4 years.

  13. 20 minutes ago, majerus mojo said:

The easy answer is they were/are being paid.

I would prefer the rule being changed to two years in school before you can declare for the draft, but that would probably hurt our school, specifically, so I don't really care.

Old Guy, great post - clears a lot of things up for me, but still don't get why Perry Ellis didn't go pro after a year of ball at Kansas or Frank Mason doing the same. We are seeing (since David Stern locked down the no more HS - to - NBA direct flight) that most of these athletes are "going to college" because they are bound by some sort of Draconian legislation.  The Brandon Jennings route makes more sense and will clear the distortion and disorder of the One-and-Done era. Fran Fraschilla (sic) was on XM radio talking about how his era grew up knowing a majority of college basketball rosters for four years and that college basketball fans were familiar with the product on the floor. Kentucky fans (world's smallest violin here) have had to learn a new starting five for the last couple of seasons now.

No, the easy answer is because they aren't NBA level players. Perry Ellis wasn't drafted and I doubt Frank Mason will be either.

I don't have the numbers, but the D League has quite a few guys right now who left college early.

The article just addresses the fact that he didn't want to risk a more severe injury, which would have longer term effects. But there had to be some consideration of a timeline. If he played the rest of the season and they went on a run, well now he's cutting further into the time in which he can prepare for his freshman season at SLU.

Is 4 months the estimated recovery time? If so, then this is right on the money. He'll be able to start working out and scrimmaging right after he graduates.

4 months should be the maximum recovery time. It could be less depending on the severity of his injury. Of course, this assumes no complications.
