  1. I am sorry to hear about this for you all. As an SIU fan, I can relate having MAJOR defections in recent memory. Our heralded Top 25 in the country recruiting class of '08 went from 5 to 1, with several police interventions as well. This was looking to be a good season for you all, and I thought Rick Majerus finally had something going for you all. This is definitely a devastating blow that puts you all back at least 2 years but not decades as one poster said.

Good luck this year, it is going to be rough. You all might wind up losing Majerus for this. As unfair as it is, head coaches get a lot of the blame for issues out of their control........

  2. Very sorry to hear this happen to you guys and to the SLU basketball program and SLU in general, but most important the victim herself. If the allegations are true, I think basketball is the last thing on the minds of the offenders. Best of luck, and I will be watching very closely.

  3. SIUC was in the NAIA when SLU was a national power in basketball. Even when SIUC won the NIT in 1967 with Walt Frazier, SIUC was in the College Division, what is now Division 2.

SLU, with Hall of Famer Easy Ed Macauley, won the NIT, which was then much more prestigious, in 1948.

SLU left the Missouri Valley before SIUC joined that league. At one time, the MVC had schools such as Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis State (now Memphis), all with SLU, and all before SIUC was in the MVC.

Since SIUC joined D-1, SLU has played in tougher conferences than the MVC, including now, with the possible exception of SLU's time in the MCC (now the Horizon League).

SLU has more than held its own with SIUC in the more recent years. The game results in this series have been largely decided by the home court.

The reason I posted what I did above was because of the statement that making the Sweet 16 isnt that big of an accomplishment, which is an absurd comment.

I know it has been debated a number of times, but I truly believe SLU should be in the MVC. SLU-SIU would become a crazy rivalry, so would SLU-MSU and other surrounding schools. That being said, the A-10 has been higher in the RPI for conference, but what relevance does that make that SLU is better than SIU exactly? It would mean something if SLU was a constant contender, which other than the #4 see a few years ago, have been in the middle to bottom tier since joining the A10.

Game results have been a result of the home court, but everything has to end sometime right? ;)

  4. I'll answer that question when you tell us what notable accomplishment SIU-C has made in basketball besides getting away with 50 fouls per game. And making the sweet 16, while admirable, isn't all that notable.

We're fans of Saint Louis University basketball on a SLU message board: why should we have to have "notable accomplishments" to follow our own team? Most teams in the country haven't done much of note, but they still have fans. Now, if we were on a Saluki board bragging, then we might need to back up our claims with "notable accomplishments."

This may be the dumbest post I have ever seen on this board......I have played nice so far, but dont be an idiot.

  5. a better question is when carbondale last won in edwardsville?

you need to get over the fact that siu-e has surpassed siu-c. it happened, just take solace in the fact you can probably skip across the river and play semo a good game.

You realize that SIUE just went D1 right? How exactly has SIUE surpassed SIU?

  6. Coined a new phrase Meth roll'd just great.

In the interest of interjecting actual basketball talk.

SIUC is now 3-1 all wins at home one against a non D1 team Indianapolis the other against Tenn-Martin and UIC. They lost on the road to Nevada.

They've had 7 days to prepare for SLU. Nevada is a good team having just beat 'Zona (triangle and too's team) on the road. So that is not a bad loss as SIUC played them within 9 pts. Overall I would say SLU is a little more tested at this point having played Nebraska, Notre Shame, Iowa St. and UGA. We lost almost all those games. This game is at home SLU hopefully will not replay the 1st half against UGA and they pull out a win in this game. SLU wins 68-62.

Actually we lost to UNLV on the road, and we should have won the game, but we went 5-26 from 3 point (sound familiar?)

  7. come on candy, other than a lesser clientelle of locals in the carbondale area as compared to the high rent of edwardsville, the actual schools, siu-e and siu-c, are identical in every way from sports to classrooms. but i can understand the jealousy on your part with that geography and social difference aspect. has to be tough living in the meth and mobile home capital of the world.

I actually graduated from SIUE and live in the Metro East, so try again.

  8. Right, this game is big for us. Never mind the fact that salukitalk has four threads about the game already. The fact that you hicks have been planning your big trip to the big city for months on that site. The fact that this thread was started by a SIUC fan. You really are excited about the road trip you always lose. Enjoy the thumping. Enjoy your obsession.

Where should I start with this? First, I am one of those "hicks" who lives in the big city, and there are a lot of us that come to the game that live in the St Louis area, so try again. I am always excited to see my Dawgs play, especially with Carbondale being 2+ hours away and Chaifetz being 15 mins away. Also, there are 2 threads on Saluki Talk dedicated to this, and since we havent had a game since lsat Saturday, this game is the next big thing. Sorry some of us are passionate and tried to stir up some convo on your board. You guys must not be as passionate as we are. I do like what Majerus has done for you guys, and Ellis will be huge for the team once he gets here.....its just a shame we wont be able to see him on Saturday.

  9. I don't think SLU fans get as excited about the Carbondale game as SIU-C fans do. I know I don't. I really hate playing the Salukis (which should be taken as a complement to SIU-C). The game is just plain ugly with SIU-C's hang all over you and maul you defense which leads to a final score that looks like it should be halftime score (not that SLU has much room to brag about a potent offense). I think it will be a challenge for our young guys and I hope we can win. Usually with this series the home team wins, so hopefully that stays true to form.

You must not pay much attention to the opponents you face then. This isnt the same Floorburn U that many people expect with SIU. We are a young team with 1 senior (who was All Big Ten 3rd team his sophomore year), and it will be really interesting to see how the Dawgs do on the road. I am really excited for the game!

  10. Greetings Billikens Fans. I am surprised to not see a topic posted yet about the game on Saturday. As a SIU fan, I have liked what I have seen so far from the Bills this year, although if Reed is out an extended time, this would be a huge setback for you all. Good luck on Saturday!
