  1. Just back from the game--a few observations:

With the exception of Willie's really poor free throw shooting we played a really great game.

Willie played a fantastic game and played big among the trees--he got pushed around but he hung in there and made some nice baskets and got some great contested rebounds. He is really becoming a star and if he can hone the free throw stroke he will be the best center in the last 30 years for the Billikens.

I never saw a team make so many sort of lucky shots than Xavier in this game. Off balance throws off the backboard, shots while falling down, shots while falling out of bounds--wow-- they really killed us with those shots. If you are a fan of X you say they were not lucky at all but were skillful plays but boy when you make that many then luck plays a part.

We saw a new side to Cody Ellis and it makes you dream a bit as to how good we would have been if he had been here all year. He is a better player now than when he arrived and his overall game is much more complete, including some nice drives to the basket.

KM played tough as nails against a phalanx of good guards. He is a warrior and mentally tough. Wonderful game against a very good team. His 3 ball at the end looked good and was just an inch short. It would have been one of the most memorable shots ever if it had gone in and we had won the game!

Kyle played very tough defense and chased 55 all over the court thru hundreds of screens. The guy hit some amazing shots over just great defense with a hand in his face. Kyle also really played a great floor game but his shot was a bit off. Those four guys played their hearts out and really on a lot of nights we would have won this game. The fans were great and the students were fantastic. When we went down 13 no one gave up on the team or in the stands and to cut it to two with a nice shot at 3 to win in the end was a tribute to the guts of the team and the wonderful fans.

This was an absolutely fantastic game and the team played even with a very athletic strong good team. X looks like they could be a load for anyone to play in the big dance. You can never be happy with a loss but this team can hold its head up high!!!!!!

So the rest of the boys that took the court didnt give it all .

That must have been the problem RM only played with 4 players tonight

Biggest peace of garbage i have read for a long time

  2. Tough loss but a great effort by a young side never gave up and showed huge hearts and determination , showed great fight and spirit and never took a step back ,

I think what hurt us the most was the defensive rebounds , we gave up 14 second chances (offensive boards) if they make all of them that = 28pts

lets be realistic at the start of the season no one on this board gave this young team a chance of competing against the better A10 Teams let alone winning games .

Most games i watch i look at what players other teams are going to lose this year (seniors) but SLU have the same team coming back and improving with the next recruits to step in , great place to be as a SLU fan , especially with the crowd getting bigger .

  3. The team just seems to keep getting better and better. With essentially the entire team back next year and at least 2 very talented Freshman coming in, next year is looking like it is going to be real, real fun. Now lets hope we can schedule some decent OOC games early in the season to help test us early and boost our RPI for a solid positioning for the 2011 Dance.

    JR- ????

    CS-????

  4. Wow! it was nice to get the win but it almost gave me a heart attack!

As I sat there and watched, the thing that dawned on me is that I really like watching these young men play. They make mistakes, they make bad plays but they always play hard and every player who has been here a while is better on D than when they arrived--Cody has been here such a short time he has not yet been indoctrinated!

I know many refuse to even discuss the idea, but folks this is still a VERY inexperienced team and the growing pains are very obvious at times.

Over the past week I have prettty much given up on this board because of the incredible descent into negativity but I would urge everyone to stay with these kids. They are a very good group and the future is still bright. Kyle C has massively improved in just a season and a half. Willie really came back nicely tonight. KM never quit even when he was shooting bricks and he came back strong. CS has become a very tough defender and a tough customer and he finally hit some nice shots. JS is just like a young colt running and jumping and getting better with each game--the sky is the limit! Cody is still getting familiar with the defensive side but he is a player. Let's try to stay positive!

  5. I agree, what did we expect at the beginning of the year with all freshmen and sophomores? Watch games on TV. Few teams start more than one or two freshmen and sophomores and most teams are led by experienced juniors and seniors. Be patient. I look at it this way......despite the Richmond debacle, this team has improved in leaps and bounds and has exceeded my realistic expectations. I can't wait for the next two years and beyond. I hope these issues with Majerus and the travel and radio do not get us sidetracked. I think we are headed in a very desirable direction after years of nothing much. I am looking on the bright side and think it is justified.

  6. My main issue with our offense is that we rely on the 3 ball to much , thay have been 34% of our FG attempts to date, hence the very low trips to the FT line , we need a mid range offence living by the 3 ball is killing us, having a mid range creates many more opportunities for other players has defenses in 2 minds majority of the time at the moment opposition coaches need to worry about 2 things close out on the 3 ball and double team the post when he receives the ball. Richmond done this well last game, I was always taught you must keep all 5 defensive players guessing and on their toes the whole game at the moment most teams know its either the 3 ball or to the post.

CE has turned up a good strong body good hands good vision and passing and has had more 3 ball attempts than any other shot needs to play more inside and go to the basket hard which also increases the opportunity for the 3pt play i agree he can step out and hit the 3 but i think he would be more efficient playing inside a lot more which would free up WR & BC alot more aswell drawing double teams

Our guards need to attack the middle alot more especially

CS he has a good mid J and is athletic enough to get there especially to the FT line as he has shown in glimpses . would also help his confidence to step out and hit a confident 3 ball not a nervous 1 hence the 2 airballs in 2 games ,confidence is so easy to lose but so tough to regain .

KM needs to work on his pull up j in stead of trying to get all the way to the rack and getting a beating especially on road games , this would also create more assist opportunities to our bigs especially for the JS dunk especially if the weak side defense tries to cover ,it creates options which at the moment we do not have .

KC the same needs to get mid range he has a good j shot, for a player that spends 30min per game on the court has had only 13 FT attempts this season

JJ was getting in mid range earlier on, he is quick and he could do alot of damage with his pull up J or dish .

Other players would benefit from a mid range offense and our FG % better than it is now ,i believe the games we have lost in O/T would have never gone in O/T at all but a W for SLU great example was the loss at GW late second half and OT

  7. What makes you think that? Because his production has gone down you think it's because of the NBA talk? I think he is intelligent enough to realize he has a WHOLE LOT MORE of improving to do before he can be good enough to play in the NBA. I believe other factors are involved. CS (who is probably the biggest disappointment of all) has regressed. So has KM on the road. WR will get better or he won't play as much.

Will be interesting to see if CS will be back next year.

Might be a swap for a Kiwi in the making

  8. I think it will depend on which game the Billikids bring with them , if they bring the game which they have shown in the 2 previous games Billikids by 6 but if they brind their earlier road game efforts Charlotte by 10.

"I think the Billikids are like a box of Chocolates you just dont know watcha gonna get"

Lets hope they bring their A game and make a huge game of it . 3-0 would be awesome.

  9. Clock tower: Fair enough. That sounds right. I have just been so eager for RM to bring in some really stellar talent I hope for too much and set my expectations a bit too high I guess.

    +1 on the JR situation.

So KM & WR are not stellar talent ??

Might be time to crawl back under the rock you came from,

  10. I'm normally pretty good with getting the sarcasm in posts but your first one was very hard to get on a first read. Now I see where you are coming from and that you weren't really saying any of those things but even now as I re-read the post its not something that jumps out at you.

I know Doowoop agrees with me as he read it the same as I did.

I apologize for calling you an ass...

No need to apologize , should have written it a bit clearer , was probably my anger at the stupid suggestion that a player is going to be kept on only to make things happier for a couple of other players.

Might as well kick the kid in the guts and ask him to smile.
