  1. have you seen brandon jennings for the bucks play? i think he is better than jennings right now. his self confidence and leadership in taking over games is intstant impact like imo.

Good point about Jennings. He was one I (like most) had not anticipated would be as good as he has been. Wall also does seem to have "it," even if he doesn't have the ideal size. But I still don't think he's a guaranteed NBA star. I could see him getting stuck between the 1 and the 2 and ending up with a Marbury-like career. Maybe putting up some decent numbers, but never doing anything too spectacular.

  2. turner is the only guy in the same ball park potentialwise imo. but even then isnt turner a junior? i cant even imagine how good wall might be as a junior.

I wish we'd get to find out. And I think he'll go number one; I just don't think he's a LeBron or Wade type instant impact guy. We'll see. Safe to say that his one year at Kentucky will probably be erased from the record books, too.

  3. I also think that his arrival is a big rush for the entire team. Any team loves to add a good player and he seems to have fit in very well. The coaches have given Brian props for his attitude and I think his team attitude has been a key to the transition to a team with Cody playing. Obviously, having Christian here has helped Cody feel more at home. Also, as far as I can observe, Cody does not have a big ego which might rub the other players the wrong way. Combine that with two wins in close games, one on the road, and we have the platform for excellent team chemistry. I never thought that it made any sense at all to have Cody redshirt, particularly from his point of view because he had worked so hard and waited so long to get to play. I also like the fact that he is a willing and effective passer from the high post. I only listened to the game but it seemed like our best lineup, when we were coming back from the 9 point deficit, was KM, KC, Willie, Cody and JS. There is more skill and athleticism in that 5 than we have had in many, many years and if we can shoot a bit better we will be hard to beat when you consider that we have an excellent group of BC, Cory, Femi, JJ, and CS who could come in as a group to replace them and we would have an nice team with toughess and ability. Wow!

I too am very excited about CE. His game appears very polished and fitting in certainly hasn't been a problem. My only (very slight) concern is the effect CE's arrival might have on Willie's psyche. I'm just a little bit nervous that he might not love all the attention/love that CE is suddenly getting instead of him. Is this totally off base?

  4. Texas isn't going to join. Any media source that believes so is an idiot. The Big 10 is proud of their bi-laws and they aren't going to change them for one school. The conference has always wanted Notre Dame, but it would hurt them too bad finanacially so it probably won't happen.

A lot of people believe the Big 10 will try to capture the NY market, so Rutgers is an option.

The main reason Mizzou is being discussed is because the Big 10 believes they could put a strangle-hold on the St. Louis market if they had Mizzou and Illinois. It would also give them some of the KC market

I've heard a lot about Rutgers, too. Anyone heard anything about who the Big East would try to pick up if Rutgers left?

If Mizzou, or even Kansas, K-State, or Iowa State, goes to the Big 10, that could certainly make things interesting. Every school in the Big 12 North other than Nebraska has to be at least somewhat dissatisfied with that conference and may be looking to get out. I know, for example, that a lot of people (fans, at least) have been agitating for Colorado to move to the Pac-10.

  5. roar it is my belief that the ncaa is trying to set up a psuedo playoff/tourney by moving towards a scenario that would create an even 64 team tourney. if they had 4 bcs conferences with 16 teams each, and each conference had their own "playoff" of sorts you got it. so take the 6 bcs conferences and turn them into 4 conferences of football only schools, ..........

I'm not sure whether there is anything consciously being done like this, but I have to agree about the general direction of major NCAA sports. At some point, I believe the BCS-type schools are going to attempt to "secede" in some fashion from the rest of Division I. I don't think football is as much of a problem, but in basketball, Division I is simply too big. Having 300+ schools attempting to compete at the same level is unsustainable in the long run. Because of that, I suspect that the power conference schools would love to create some sort of separation.

Of course I'm not sure where that leaves SLU. We're certainly not at the level of some of the schools that have no business playing D-I basketball, but are more of a true mid-major. In an ideal world, schools like SLU would still be D-1, but the bottom 100-150 would be more like a D-1AA.

  6. -here is a hope, but this seems to be the day for hope coming true....cody plays right away, struggles a bit out of the gate but school doesn't start until jan 11 (damn that seems early, why this yr of all years??) so there is extra practice time and eventually it clicks for him, KC and Jeff Reid gets healthy and we win our last 7-8 conference games and then win the a10 tourney get a 10 seed, play in milwaukee and then win the midwest regional at teh edward jones dome to go to the final 4

That's the optimism I love to see! I've also already convinced myself about how much Cody will change the team. And add McCall next year ....

But semi-seriously, if Cody plays, and is in decent shap, he will take a lot a heat off of Willie. And if you can't triple Willie like Mo State did, then he's an absolute beast.

  7. This is great. I was expecting the worst.

It's almost disturbing how much this absolutely made my day! I was basically waiting for the news that Cody wasn't getting cleared, Kwamain was out for the season, Reid was transferring, etc. I love good news!
  8. I have been an outspoken supporter of the AD and the University on virtually every issue, but after tonight, I have to agree 100% with Joe. He is spot on, especially with the part about apologizing to Majerus. Majerus goes out of his way to thank the crowd and the students for coming out to the game. EVERY post-game show he mentions this. This had to be a slap in the face to him (I just wonder if it was really "technical difficulties" that "prevented" him from being on the post-game show tonight...).

I understand and agree with dneuner to a point. The students are ultimately to blame, but that does NOT excuse the short-sighted decision of the AD to undertake a promotion to allow our student section to be over-run with MSU students. I just wonder how Willie, Brian, Christian, et al, felt when the looked up and saw the mass of maroon staring down at them and chanting "M S U" all night. Think about that for a second.

And, I GUARANTEE you, the small amount of money the school received for those MSU ticket purchases in the student section is totally irrelevant to helping us pay for the arena. Business is business, but good business is smart business and this was STUPID business.

Totally agree with this. A couple friends and I were some of the alumni who moved into the student section last night to do what we could. I fear I made a bit a fool of myself getting into screaming matches with kids 10 years younger than me, but whatever. I just really felt bad for the players, especially Willie after he had "airball" chanted at him from *our* student section. I tried to yell encouragement at Willie and Conk during free throws, but I'm sure they couldn't hear. It's just so frustrating ... I'm sitting here today with no voice and had to vent.

  9. -i am not a fan of all things bob knight, but this is fantastic!!!

The contrast between coaches like Knight, Majerus, etc., and Calipari, Pitino, and their ilk is interesting. Sometimes it's hard to defend the guys who are tough on their players and who, in both Knight's and Majerus's case, have occasionally crossed the line between "demanding" and "insulting." But I'll take that over sleazeballs who are running what are essentially professional teams any day.

  10. Thank you, Roy. This is the bottom line. We're not going to the MVC. We're in the best non-BCS conference for basketball now, so let's ride it out until the next conference shuffle and see what happens then. Let's retire this argument and move forward.

Also, for what it's worth, I would strongly consider giving up my season tickets if SLU ever moves to the MVC. That would be a clear indication that the school doesn't have the same ambition for the athletic program that I do. It would certainly put a ceiling on what we're able to do as a basketball program, even if it's a horizontal move in most other sports.

I'm mainly concerned with basketball like most on the board, but how would a move affect the soccer program? Do most MVC schools (with the exception of Creighton, who I believe has a relatively strong program) even have mens soccer?

  11. Umm ... this is less than helpful, but I happened to be at the MAC for a different event at the same time, so I stood just outside for a few minutes (until Chris May gave me a "stop freeloading" look). Didn't hear anything of substance, though. It did look like there was a pretty good-sized crowd, and, predictably, Coach Majerus had everyone laughing.

  12. I'm a long-time reader but a first time poster. I also just got my Billiken Club materials, but due to "economic issues," have had to give up my season tickets. I was really hoping to get something figured out by the July 31 deadline, but other priorities just made it impossible. What I'm wondering is if anyone else has had has this problem or knows if the economy has caused any issues regarding ticket sales, giving to the Billiken Club or athletic dept., etc. I hope that the economy won't cost the Bills momentum created by Chaifetz, but I fear that it coupled with what could be an up-and-down year on the court could spell problems. Sorry for the pessimistic post ...
