  1. What have you heard?

Not to re-open the Pandora's box regarding the kangaroo court, etc., how could they possibly let one in and not the other? This is just a disciplinary issue, right, so things like grades and other issues that might differentiate between the two situations shouldn't matter?

  2. Boy, I hate to say this, but based on these reports, RM sounds like Mr. Negativity. Ok, he should have been afforded the funds to go to Australia. Probably the reason for the big expenses was he ate two meals instead of one. Then to say MM and JJ will struggle in the classroom is too much information and shouldn't be discussed in public. It's like he's saying they're dummies and there's a good chance they won't be here next year.. The brother comment about RL, totally uncalled for. I hope I'm wrong but I get the feeling he's mailing it in for this year because, like us, he thought we'd be dancing until 2 weeks ago. I'm beginning to get the feeling he's not long for the SLU. If I'd gone to the luncheon, I'd be disappointed.

I'm probably guilty of mischaracterizing the comments about MM and JJ. RM's emphasis was not necessarily on them being "dummies," but rather on them coming from backgrounds where school work is simply not emphasized. Especially in talking about MM, RM said that it's tough coming from Chicago public schools to a place like SLU. A student just isn't properly prepared, through no fault of his own.

On the "brother" comment, I guess I shouldn't have posted it. It was of course insensitive of RM, but as others have pointed out, I really don't think he meant any harm. Simply a comment on the level of competition in New Zealand.

  3. What did he say about Dwayne Evans????

I thought he might split time at the 3 with CE. But I want to know what RM thinks.

I forgot about DE. From what I can remember, RM emphasized that he's a smart kid from a good family. He also said that DE is very tough and a good rebounder.

  4. I didn't get to stay for the whole thing, but I can post what I remember.

Before Majerus spoke, he let Cassity and Conklin each answer some questions. Interesting note: when introducing the two, he said both will graduate in three years.

    Cassity

    -nothing too earth-shattering

-said that if were forced to pick starters, his would be: JJ, KC, BC, CR, CE

    Conklin

-had surgery on the ankle and it feels much better; said he feels more explosive this year

-he has been in contact with Kwamain and they are hoping he will be able to return to the team

-has been working on his jump shot, but also hoping to post up more this year

    Majerus

-he was asked about the freshman and he said the following:

-MM -- very quick, but a terrible defender; may struggle in the classroom

-JJ has good feel for the game, is very strong, may rely on athleticism too much, not allowed to shoot threes until further notice; may struggle in the classroom

-RL is a good player, but may struggle to adjust, has never played with "a brother" (note: I'm not trying to offend with that label, just a quote from RM)

-JB is a gym rat, loves the game, wants to be a pro even though he has no shot, mixture of Lisch and Meyer

-usual rant about travel in the A-10, etc., although did not express his usual preference for the MVC; thinks that the BE will blow up in 5-6 years, and that if SLU doesn't catch on with Georgetown, Nova, Xavier, etc, it will "never" be a big time player in college bball

-complained that it's hard to practice free throws without extra practice hoops

-said we would have gotten an Australian recruit better than CE and RL, but the school couldn't afford the trip to Australia to get him

-no comment on the WR/KM issue, except that he was not permitted to be involved in the process and he stands behind his players 100%

-only one Andre Miller reference that I remember, although multiple Lisch references

I'm sure there's a lot more, but that's what comes to mind. Others can correct/supplement, I'm sure.

  5. I initially thought 5th seemed low, but I can't really argue about any of the teams picked in front of us. Of those teams, I'll be most interested to see what Xavier does this year. I think the loss of Crawford and Love may be fairly significant, and I'm by no means sold on Chris Mack as a big time coach. They still have plenty of talent, but maybe not as much as in years past.

  6. Maybe the crowd was too quiet, maybe it wasn't. But, why were there only 7.900 fans at a game against a top-20 opponent? Is it because, once Cardinal Spring Training starts, all other sports become inconsequential? Are St. Louis-area fans just not that interested in college basketball? No knock against the hardcore fans, but you cannot get closer to a sellout than less than 80% of capacity?

I'm guessing it's the Cardinal factor, with the entire St. Louis media on spring break in Jupiter. Party on, boys!!

This is what I don't get. Weren't the last 3 or 4 games sold out last year? And not one sellout this year, despite significantly more buzz about the team? Was it all just local interest in Lisch/Liddell last year, plus the novelty of the new building? I don't get it.

I had crappy seats where no one cheered last night. But hey, at least there were people in Mizzou sweatshirts talking about how great Zaire Taylor is. So that was good. Not bitter at all ...

  7. He's a good guy who works really hard. I'll be the first to admit that I was a bit taken aback by the post on the XU board, but I really don't think he meant any disrespect toward the SLU community. I think the pizza there is great and I think the restaurant (and all the other restaurants in the area) are good for the area.

  8. I was really ###### Kyle early on because it was just frustrating to watch. I am really glad to see he is proving myself and others wrong.

Christian also really deserves praise as well. He on the ball defense is great and love the tenacity.

Eastside-thanks for pointing fingers, I knew once I saw this thread you would have a comment.

I agree about all the good stuff being said about Kyle. It's also to the point where I'm more comfortable with him bringing it up against the press then KM.

I also agree that CS deserves praise. He was really struggling early in the conference season, but the jump shot seems to be falling now and he's also driving occasionally. He also brings a lot of emotion.

  9. Greatest SLU game I ever went to! Seriously! Big ups to the Blue Crew....you really showed up today!

+1. Last year was awesome, but this one was even better. Best part was that there were a couple of U-Douchebags behind me given crap to Cassity to all game. Nothing like watching them slink out of there. Great job student section!
  10. I don't mind Martelli's take; i.e. a couple of additional play-in games. But I think the play-in games should involve all BCS teams. Let the little schools actually play on Thursday. Make the 8th place Big East team play the 7th place ACC team to see who gets a 10 seed. That would make the play-in's absolutely monster games, too.
