  1. I was able to make the MAC lunch this year. Ford handled the Gordon news by saying that he couldn't comment specifically or name any names but that, if you checked Twitter, you would see that it was a great day for SLU. Beyond that, not much new from his talk. Of the current players, he singled out Roby and (somewhat surprisingly) Gillman for their improvement and strong work at practice. He is a compelling speaker -- I can see why he is successful with recruits. It was great to see Larry Hughes at the lunch as well.

Incidentally, I spoke to a couple people at the lunch who I suspect might be fellow MBMs but I did not have a chance to ask. I was the tall bald guy with glasses f you happened to speak with me. I was at Table 5. It was nice meeting others if you happen to be reading.

  2. I wholeheartedly agree with at least a temporary cut in Yarbrough's playing time (and that's regardless of who's replacing him). As to Lancona's potential, I know he hasn't showed much this year, but he gave some pretty valuable minutes toward the end of last year. I also think he was by far the most highly rated of any player on the team coming out of HS other than AY. Seems like there is something there and I don't get why the freshman are allowed to play through mistakes but he's pinned to the bench.

  3. I'm also mystified by the situation with Lancona. I thought he and AY would be the best players on the team by far. It's really hard for me to believe there's not a place for him in the rotation. I have no idea if it's a coaching thing, an effort thing, a confidence thing, etc.

  4. -hey, keep the Baby Race clean, no supplements in your kid!!!! ;)

It's amazing what a little HGH does for his crawling speed!! We also have to figure out the best (for lack of a better word) "lure" to use to get him to to the finish line. I have no doubt he's got the necessary speed, but the concentration's been the problem during practice!

  5. I just heard from what I would consider a decently reliable source that the KM injury is legit (high ankle sprain). Did anyone who's in Columbus see him at the open practice yesterday? The tweets said everyone is healthy and that KM was working on this threes. Was he moving around much? I hope so ...

  6. I think the worst case scenario for SLU is a loss to LaSalle plus a team other than Temple winning the A-10. That, along with a BCS team or two making a run in the conference tournament, would be enough to make me feel uncomfortable on Sunday,

  7. You are right on with this post. It's obvious broy is prejudiced toward Cassity. A senior with as much experience as Cassity should to contribute more than he has, especially on a night when the other players were having trouble scoring.

I agree with broy. Sometimes I wish Kyle would shoot more, but he still brings a heckuva lot to the table. The offense runs much better when he's on the floor, he's a much better defender than MM (although JJ did the best job on Dillard last night), and he's a reliable ballhandler. Rickma knows what he's doing.

Sometimes, though, I wish the attributes of KC, MM, and JJ could be combined into two really good players. Then it wouldn't be always thinking "I wish MM was just a little bigger or a little better defender," or "I wish KC would shoot like MM," or "I wish JJ was a little more careful with the ball."

  8. -anyone eaten there? is the food good?

I've eaten there a few times, most recently yesterday while watching my guy Tebow. I think the food is pretty good. Typical bar food, but definitely above average. There are also a ton of TVs and pretty good selection of brews on tap, so it's a great place to watch a game.

  9. We are playing like sh** against an NAIA D2 opponent and you care about the band?!?!?

Trust me, I was much more worried about the game than the band. And it looks like I completely misunderstood the post to which I replied in any event, so I'm back to only worrying about the game. Which was plenty worrisome.

  10. Not a fan of the "Saint Louis, you said it all", I prefer budweiser, dont care if they were bought out.

I'm watching without sound. Does this mean they're not doing March of the Kings (or whatever that Budweiser song is) at the under 4:00 minute timeout? One of the few traditions at basketball games that people seem to enjoy?

  11. When I called up yesterday to make a reservation, they told me it was cancelled because of the Cardinals game. Apparently a lot of people were cancelling on the Majerus event because of the Cardinals. I'm apparently in the minority as far as being much more interested in SLU basketball than Cardinals baseball.

  12. excellent imagination. my buddy has a badass permanent X'd up scar on his forearm from jumping over the fence on grand next to the shell station (is that still there?). chain link fence ate him up but good. i can't remember if we were running from someone, or just shortcutting. i think we were just shortcutting. but super jacked up on beer. that's for sure.

No one else ever hopped the fence to get into Humphrey's patio? I didn't either ... just heard about it ... (Although I guess CE is of age).

  13. On the radio the other day Majerus said he was trying to decide if he wanted to go to Med school or law school.

Sounds like the Bills have a taller more talented Eckerle on the team.

He will be the leader/captain of the team his Jr year.

NO! DON'T GO TO LAW SCHOOL!! DWAYNE, YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT!!

... and I also think he'll be (or already is) a stud and most likely a captain after Mitchell leaves.

  14. See: Husak, Bryce for more on these lovely experiments in futility.

Bryce with 4 years of Majerus would have been a pretty darn good player. He could absolutely shoot (despite the uninformed groans that went up from the Scottrade crowds whenever he put up a three) and he had both better hands and instincts than given credit for. I have no idea about Manning, but I think work ethic will be the big difference maker. If he has it, he'll be fine. If not, see Thompson, Brett.

  15. Everyone might think I'm crazy but with the way the schedule is setup I could see us winning 4 out of the next 5. We just played a very tough schedule to start the A10 season.

I sort of agree ... we win tomorrow, and suddenly things could start looking a lot different (not saying we're winning the league or anything, just that the sky won't be falling quite as much). Of course a loss could really be bad.

  16. At least according to Timmerman. This is a quote from Tom's game write-up; "Kwamain Mitchell apparently eager to get back on the court this season as soon as he gets a waiver from the NCAA."

For completely selfish reasons I would prefer he redshirts, but he has got to do what's best for him.

On the plus side, if he comes back relatively soon and it doesn't take him too long to get back to form, we should make the A-10 tournament and be a team to reckon with.

It would certainly make this season less painful for us as fans. Unless clearance comes in the next day or two, though, it would seems like Kwamain would be wasting a lot of eligibility. At least CE got to play in the entire conference season and the CBI ... neither will happen with KM.

  17. Really? Compared to who, Perez Hilton?

Timmerman is an actual journalist, so he has to, you know, have actual sources when he publishes a story. He can't just say, well, I saw it on Billikens.com (like Perez Hilton might do). I also doubt that the first thing he did was call the family. I'm pretty sure the lawyer issued a statement. As any responsible journalist would do--in order to cover all sides of the story--Timmerman included that statement in the article.

  18. i want to know the state of our recruiting when we have a guy on our team getting significant minutes (salecich) who contributes nothing. He is shooting 11% from three on the YEAR when he's supposed to be a shooting guard.

Basically if a guy can shoot 1/10 or 1/9 from 3 he's good enough to play on this team. That is just completely unacceptable from the coaching staff in every way.

I won't defend the shooting numbers. But he's gone from a defensive liability when he first arrived to, in my opinion, the best defensive guard on the team.

  19. one more thing. why is Paul Eckerle playing let alone starting against one of the most athetlic, talented teams in the A-10? He seems like a great guy and maybe even a team leader in practice, but he's just not good enough to play for us. Just watch the bench during time outs and big defensive possessions. Jake Barnett is standing up screaming and coaching out players. He seems to be the best leader we have right now and he won't play a second this season. The team loves him and the coaches do too. I feel like PE can have the same affect. I really like Paul and I don't mean to take a shot to him, but he just shouldn't be playing.

I agree with this. It was almost unfair to Paul to have him out there, especially against Staten. McCall was about the only one quick enough to stay with him (and I actually thought CS did well on him too, in limited doses). But having PE in there essentially gave Dayton free points. Ah well ... I think PM was lost on player rotation last night.
