Valpo in the Horizon as is his first commitment, Loyola with Porter Moser. Wonder why he didn't relook that. Maybe he did. Valpo is technically the Chicago suburbs I guess and with Butler gone, is likely to dominate the Horizon
No, probably not. Long term, Id take any one of Loyola, Detroit, Cleveland State, or UIC to be traditionally at the top of the horizon after they settle into what they'll be post-butler.
of course, that's all before the new additions which ive heard rumors of belmont, oakland, and evansville

Good luck in Chaifetz, bro.
With the 6 wins away from home, #14 Butler is 4th in the country
Marquette - neutral
North Carolina - neutral
Indiana - "neutral"
Northwestern - away
Vanderbilt - away
St Joseph's - away

Luck? Really?
-
If Butler wins a game in which they are favored in tomorrow, they will have 6 road games remaining all season long.
Butler had a very difficult schedule, it becomes one of the easier in the league if they are 2-0 with 14 games left and wins at St Joes and Dayton behind them.

Clarke's two considerations were Oklahoma and Butler.
-
I think we can assume that it will be a 12 team league. To get the kind of money that is on the table now, you would need as many games as possible to televise. No way that $500mm works for a 10 team league with only Butler, X, and UD added in.

Thanks for posting the article info - I wonder why VCU is not considered over George Mason? I still think that Creighton is not the lock everybody thinks - they may get an invite but I think the Omaha thing is a problem. I also still think Dayton is a question - they are not needed for the Ohio market if X joins. I understand the - Conf will not have their own TV network - but the conf should not want to relegate itself to small markets to start with - they could easily see that in a bigger market the team their could become good and take over.
Probably because the NY Post has been contradicted on nearly everything they have added to this whole discussion. I'm sure that they are incorrect once again. There's 0% chance of George Mason getting an invite before VCU and VCU isn't even likely. (They are the geniuses that randomly inserted Duquense a couple weeks ago)
Given all that is out there, I'd be shocked if its anything other than Xavier, Butler, Creighton, St Louis, Dayton if they go to 12 immediately. (There still seems to be a strong pull for 10 or at least starting there though, in places)

Source on one of the Butler boards is saying the league will be 10 teams, with SLU, XU, and BU joining. The announcement will come fairly shortly.
I can't recall this person ever having false info
-
What does Butler bring other than Brad Stevens? It has a large market but one that is dominated by other programs. It spends way less on athletics than any of the other schools. I see Butler staying in a non-Catholic A-10 with VCU.
Now that Butler has moved to 19 in this week's poll, that means every year since 05/06, barring last season, they've been in the Top 25. That along with playing for a 5th Sweet 16 in a decade this year, having the winningest coach in D1 history over 5+ years, and averaging >22 wins per year for 20 years probably contributes.

No, they are not. The article from ZagsBlog came from Philadelphia insider sources. (ie independently verified). I'm sorry, I didn't realize this was still news. Its been all over Twitter.
-
Two independent sources have indicated that Xavier and Butler are the targets. Everyone else comes after. There is no confusion over who is getting invites, only how big. If its 9, its over.

The Catholic thing was never the central theme to this thing, but people are going record on it already anyway. From yesterday....
@Aaron_Bracy Villanova AD Nicastro says new conference will not be limited to Catholic schools.#philahoops#bigeast#catholic7----Butler and Xavier, then a third is evidently the most likely. But 12 is still possible, as is staying with 9.
-
All the credible sources I have read are saying that its most likely going to be a 10 team conference to start and possibly expand in the future.
Correct, and SLU is looking pretty good.
Honestly, Dayton looks screwed. They appear to be behind Creighton too
-
Yeah, just like our buddies MU and DePaul did back in '04. I have a feeling Dayton and X would say they don't care as long as their in. Can't fathom why they'd leave SLU out for either DU or Butler. DU hasn't done much lately except disappoint, although they travel well and sell out just about every game. Yes, Butler's had a nice run under Stevens, but they really compete with IU for any TV market in the state. Whereas, SLU is all alone in the 21st biggest market, although we do have the same problem w/ the 800 lb gorilla that lives in Boone County.
Its been known over a year that Xavier and Butler would be the targets if this ever happened. For the rest, its hoping you are #3 or its a 12-team config
-
Worthington named Butler in his list and they can't take him, I posted because it could be relevant. I'm sorry for whatever has you feeling so butt hurt todayI was hoping for more cool posts from Indy Dawg where he tells us we may now have a shot at a recruit because Butler has already filled their quota for that position.
-
He may add SLU, butler filled the spot with Chrabascz (and Nolan Berry)
-
Nice find Metz.
It is very easy to win 25+ games every year when you only have to "get up" for 3-4 games a year.
Butler and VCU are going to be middle of the pack in my opinion. Wait until VCU has to go play at @SJU, @Dayton or even in terrible Olean.
No longer will they be putting Dec-Feb on cruise control as they whip up on Towson, William and Mary, James Madison, and Georgia St. VCU circles George Mason on the calendar every year (scary).
People who are anointing VCU and Butler has A-10 favorites could be very surprised when they look at the standings in late February.
I cannot wait for RM to coach circles around Shaka.

LOL. VCU and Butler might just be the two best teams in the conference (who the hell knows). How about pumping the breaks a little bit on poking the bear? Outside of Xavier, no one in the conference has come close to achieving as much (and of course Xavier has never been to a 3rd weekend). Lets just see how things fall.
Hell, most of these preseason publications has all three schools in their Top 25.
Here's one....

The only thing Insider about that writer is the name of his column, nearly everything he writes is hijacked from twitter and message boards. The sentiment is probably around 95% in favor, the A10 has reached out, and Butler leaked to Katz's sources that they are interested in moving.
As far as conference moves go, this is as concise and neat of a "courtship" as I've seen. I'd anticipate Butler will join after the NCAA Tournament.
-
Butler has won 20 games in a year 15 of the last 17 years and have four Sweet 16s in the last 8 = geologic lightning.-i hope butler did not catch lightening in a bottle, granted for two years, and go away, come to the a10 and replace or exceed temple is my hope
It will have the most tournament wins in this century in the conference the moment it arrives.
-
A10 has reached out to Butler about joining the A10.

Butler and Xavier will be joining the big east at some some point. Until then, they aren't doing anything.
-
St Louis was not among the group he considered (Butler, Missouri, Boston College and Santa Clara)
-
Butler will stay active in the area with Darius Austin in 2014.
-
Major program. Yes
Major conference. Most likely 2014
-
Evidently the rumor du Jour is that the big east will offer KU and KSU in a last attempt
At the status quo, if it fails the league splits and Xavier and butler are invited. They'd assess adding more but that would the first move

Ah, you think you have a chance. That's cute.
