  1. Whoa, Barnett behind KC - this why you have to wait to see them play in person to really know how good they are. If JB is going to be behind KC then he is not the player some were led to believe - at least not yet.

Regardless of ability it does take some time for players to readjust after a redshirt year. Hopefully he can shake the rust and get his D up to snuff with these practices/games.

  2. When John Wall was a senior Bill Self had contact with him during a no contact period in January and it got reported and yet nothing happened. Some schools have to really screw up in order to get in trouble.

He told him he had a good game. Not saying its right or allowed under the rules at all (and Kansas did report it), but its a little different than offering a scholarship. Huge advantage (especially for a coach with the prestige of K) to offer a kid when everyone else didn't have contact. Regardless, this will amount to nothing.

  3. Perhaps. But I think you might be going through a little too much wishful thinking with Duke. Don't see anything really happening to Coach K or the school here.

Don't think anything will come about this but his former assistants have quit the track record re:violations (Capel @ Oklahoma , Amaker @ Michigan and Snyder @ Missouri). Interesting pattern.

  4. Who from the SEC would be tempted to go to the Big 12?

I think it would be the other way around with OK and OK State running off to join the SEC. Texas is killing the league with its almighty unquestionable influence.

Exactly. Not a stable conference at all. If A&M and OK go to the SEC, Texas probably goes independent, Mizzou and Kansas possibly to the Big East, and the rest (ISU, TTU, Baylor, KSU, and OSU) would be up a creek.

  5. Hard for me to see this happening. Can't imagine that Kansas would want to join a basketball conference where they won't automatically be the top dog. Also don't see the Big 12 imploding as Texas just has too much influence and power. I see a more likely scenario of the Big 12 poaching a team or two in the next two years from either the SEC, C-USA or the Mountain West.

It almost blew up last week because A&M was pitching a fit over the Longhorn Network airing HS games and contemplated a move to the SEC. As for Big 12 expansion, Beebe has repeatedly said they will not seek new members. This is partially because part of the deal that kept the conference together was to split the money less ways. Doubt the conference exists in 5 years.

  6. While I was surfing:

    http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/blog/_/name/katz_andy/id/6771942/big-east-needs-divisions

The Big East goes to 17 teams next year with talk of adding an 18th. While Pitino is talking about ways to address some issues (seconded by Mike Brey in terms of at least opening the discussion), the talk itself is interesting. I just don't know how you can reasonably balance all this out. The football-vs.-basketball equation is discussed and Syracuse doesn't like the htought of NOT playing Georgetown inn basketball this way. Rivalry week. Also, last time I checked, 'Nova was discussing upgrading to D1 football.

To me, the logical addition seems to be Temple. But that didn't work before although Temple has promised to bulk up its own D1 football program. Could it be Memphis? Nothing challenges Memphis in CUSA anymore. Why not, TCU came into the "east." Charlotte is going football soon too. Hmmmm. Wonder if and when the next shoe falls.

It's all about football and Memphis is one of the worst teams in D-1. Won't be them.

  7. Winning 5 straight A-10 titles, and 7 or so in the past decade...the past? Lol. Multiple Elite Eights, multiple other Sweet 16's, lots and lots and lots of NCAA appearances...and...that's just the past decade.

Every SLU fan would be thrilled to have Xavier's current, most recent, and past success going back multiple decades.

Rooting for the league is rooting for SLU. With the exception of head to head matchup, always rooting for the league. You want the league to be the best it can be.

    Past decade for X (2000-2010)

    26+ wins 7/10 seasons

    NCAA tourney: 9/10 years (2 sweet 16, 2 elite 8)

    A10 champs: 6/10 years

    A10 tourney champs: 3/10 years

6 NBA draft picks (2 first round), 10 playing overseas

That's a pretty good clip for just about any school. There's reasons why people don't consider X (or most of the A-10) midmajors anymore.

  8. we dont use the billiken enough. hell run that icon all over the city for all kinds of events.

Agreed on that... And it's sad. For some reason SLU doesn't want to market/use the Billiken. I don't know many other D-1 universities that don't have the mascot plastered on just about everything in the store. Hard to become more visible in the city/area when most of the merchandise just says "Saint Louis University" or "SLU" in block letters.

  9. Nolan Berry had an offer when porter was here and then didn't after pm left. He was very interested in SLU and had we recruited him hard I have no doubt we would've been a fimalist.

Most of your post makes a lot of sense.

And Rick Majerus is still head coach. Even if Porter was lead recruiter, the offer would have come from Rick himself. Assistant coach leaving won't effect that.

I'm sure we would have been a finalist and when he announced he was going to Duke, Purdue, Mizzou, or Notre Dame, we'd all be sad. We've been to 5 NCAA tournaments in school history, most recently in 2000. Bottom line is, as many have pointed out, until we are winning, we're not going to land Top 50 recruits, no matter how close their families are to the program.

  10. Not that I put much stock in Dickie V but on ESPN site he's listed his 31-40 top teams. Guess what? No meniton of SLU. Temple was there at 36 with the comment was they will challenge X for the A-10 championship. So X is probably comeing in the next 10. Oh, well we've just got to find the glass slipper and play the Cinderella role this year. New Mexico and Villanova were listed at 34 and 32 which I only bring up because we play them. So getting a couple of W's against them should definitely help our chances come early March. But that's easier said than done, isn't it?

Good. Don't want any love. I want our players to play with a chip on their shoulder. We had 11 wins last year. No need to get cocky early. If we make the NCAA that will be quite the turnaround (which this team is quite capable of)

  11. Don't they excuse themselves when teams under their purview come up?

    Yes.

The laptops of fake Beebe and fake Gene Smith (SI's Davis and Steve Scheer of CBS Sports) had one extra item on the screen. A red stripe informed the fake committee members that they were ineligible to vote. "You are restricted from participating due to conflicts with teams in this election," the message inside the stripe reads. Beebe couldn't participate in a vote involving Texas and Kansas, and Smith couldn't participate in one involving Ohio State. The real Smith had explained this process earlier. Whenever the Buckeyes are discussed next month, he won't be in the room. "I'll be in the other room," he said, "eating chocolate pretzels."

  12. Biondi saying this is the kind of development midtown needs. He's a clown. Midtown also needed that huge grass lot at the corner of lindell and grand.

He doesn't have a clue. Better lighting and a solid tenant in the existing structure would cure all of his concerns on crime.

As far as traffic goes...give me a break. It's midtown not wentzville. The fox theatre really causes traffic problems let's see what we an do about that...

I think the problem with a new tenant in the existing structure is it would still have the stigma of being shady because of the Del Taco being there all these years. I also agree that historical preservation should be only used in places that have some historical significance. I don't think that the Del Taco building adds anything to the area besides a place to avoid.

  13. If all those games are true than some of the other ones we were told as on are not happening as we'd be well over the 14 non-con games you can have. As it stands now, there are 15 non-con games on the front page and you are adding two new names...

I'll believe it when I see it, but I just don't see how the New Mexico game is happening this year. We're already in the 76 Classic with them (granted we might not see them there). Teams are starting to put out their noncon schedules so hopefully we'll know sooner rather than later (since SLU won't officially announce until late August at the earliest)

  14. Other than the 4 UB recruits, most of our transfers have been due to RM recruiting over players. CS is a prime example. He knew his minutes were going to go down significantly this season so rather than ride the pine he opts for a DIV II school. Can't blame him if he wants to play rather than sit. Same with JJ and JSmif they saw what was coming in and wanted out. Granted Thompson just wanted away from RM. Cotto was a hot head who thought he knew better than the coaches and in all likelihood would have left his next stop as well. I have no problem with a coach recruiting over kids. It's done all the time by just about everyone. The reason schools like Duke and UNC don't have many transfers is because they're big time winners and kids don't mind sitting on the bench if they're going to be part of a national championship.

Or they go pro before they graduate. But there are a good number of transfers out of those programs too because kids want to be closer to home or get more (or some as the case usually is) playing time. The Wear twins out of UNC transfered to UCLA last year after the season to play closer to home. Transfers DO happen in other programs too...
