  1. the dewayne wade in the nba isnt the same wade that played the billikens. josh fisher owned him both years. wade probably paid the nba to blackball josh so he never had to play against him again.

I remember working out at Gold's Gym in Peoria with former MU and Peoria Richwoods hooper Marcus Jackson and him telling me that Wade was always late for workouts and that Crean wouldn't do anything about it...but if Jackson would ever show up late, there'd be hell to pay. Apparently, it was also the case with Steve Novocain Novak.

This summer I was in a heated battle of beer pong with Travis Diener at the bar formerly known as RBar and he and I went down to the last cup before he got the best of me...but hey, he's in the NBA and all I can do is show up at the rec M-W-Sat. and hope my shot comes with me.

  2. Could the official SLUbillikens.com Web guy put the "countdown to tip-off" feature ON THE TOP OF THE PAGE INSTEAD OF THE BOTTOM RIGHT-HAND CORNER!!!

My God, this isn't a freaking high school Web site that still has the 02-03 schedule on it, but it sure looks like it.

If you go to UND.com during the football season, their Web site prominently displays the "Countdown to Kickoff" on the top left, visible to the millions of ND fans who hit that site during the season.

I didn't even know we had that feature on SLUbillikens.com until ten minutes ago, and I'm sure none of you did either.

Get it up on the left hand side of the page. NOW.

  3. FYI, the Dayton game is the night of the big Mardi Gras festivities downtown and that will DEFINITELY effect the student turnout. My senior year we played Tulane that night and it looked more like a Tulane home game with everyone in their beads and completely inebriated. I was lucky enough to bum a ride up to (then) Savvis Center for the game, but it was an early 1 or 2 tip-time if I can remember. The Dayton game is at 7pm and I'm sure the passed out student body will not make Chaifetz an intimidating place to play. My bet is that the student section resembles the picture from the Duquesne game.

I will be there, but as soon as it's over, it's back to Soulard.

  4. Here are the facts:

    1. I have received complaints about Metz in recent weeks.

    2. His initial post was nothing more than trolling that was potentially harmful to a player b/c he was insinuating BT was going to transfer or get run off when there is ZERO evidence to support it.

    3. When I deleted the post, he pm'd me and basically challenged me to meet him before a game. There is not a single other poster on this board that would react it that absurd manner.

    4. My initial intention was simply to delete his trolling thread and move on, but if the imbecile wants to escalate things, I am happy to oblige.

    A. No you haven't. Please support this absurdity with facts.

    B. Players don't read this board, and if they do, that is their loss.

    C. I want to meet you before a game. I'm not going to fight you, Nark. I'm a bigger man than that. I want to put a face to a name.

    D. Thanks for calling me names. At least I have the manners to privately ask you to make your absurd case.

You are the one that needs to grow up.

  5. Metz has zero credibility. I'll take Nark's word on this. I would bet that Metz crossed the line in his pm.

Specifically to this thread, Metz can be passionate without trying to stir up trouble (e.g. Nark is afraid of me).

Really? Do you know me? Could you pick me out at a Billiken game and say, "boy, there's Metz. That fu**ing co** sucker?" Could you do that? I don't know who you are or what Obama executive order gave you the privilege to label someone the way you constantly do, moy, but I'm sure a lot of people have had it with you. What do you bring to the table? What insider information do you have? Are you the Tom Lemming of billikens.com? I am here to be a fan and root for my team and my alma mater. But you can label me as a Putz and do all this and get away with it, but as soon as old Metz rears his head around the InterWebs, moy gets all fired up and Nark gets all fired up to take me out back and shoot me. For what?! Because I am a fan of SLU basketball? When was rooting for a team considered a crime? Boy, we are moving backwards as a country.

I'm at Humphrey's either before and/or after every single home game. Get John or whoever is working the bar to ask "Metz" to come downstairs or come to the bar. I'll oblige. I'll shake all of your hands and have a man-to-man discussion with you. It's a shame you have to hide behind the cloak that is the Internet. It really is a shame. I'm making myself available to you. On more than one occasion, I've introduced myself as "Metz or Putz" to a complete stranger at Humps after games, so that someone will overhear me and break a beer bottle over my head.

I'm not going anywhere, Moy and Nark. I'll be right here rooting on my Billikens. If you don't like that, come talk to me. Don't go crying to momma.

  6. Putting Brett in a situation he isnt ready for will wreck his confidence and might stunt his progress. Rick knows what he is doing.

I don't think so. He isn't on the Jay-Vee team. Most kids who are competitive enough to garner and earn a D-1 scholarship are the type of athletes who use discouragement and failure as building blocks to improve.

You've just come to accept and submit to mediocrity from all the years of watching Soderberg's recruits that you don't think that Brett Thompson has the makeup to become a star for this program. I'm all for using my scholarship athletes if they deserve playing time, but you can't just make excuses, or then Brett will start to believe he isn't athletic enough to guard Barack Obama.

  7. There's a great chance that BT could be the sleeping giant of Majerus' recruiting class, but we'll never know unless the kid logs some minutes out there. We're not expecting to challenge Xavier for the A-10 crown...why not use BT more. Confidence. He knows this is college basketball and you might get schooled one night, but like a Mariano Rivera-type athlete, you can't have a good memory -- you've got to put last night behind you after you watch game footage with the GA's and Assistant Coaches, work on the things you need improvement on -- and then go out and dominate. I think BT has a lot of potential and will be better than Voyoukas, but he's gotta see more floor.

  8. Majerus didn't forget how to develop big men, and in case you've forgotten, he has a pretty good track record in that department. I am sure the coaches are working hard during practice to help Brett develop the skills that will serve him well in the next three years.

While it may not be the best comparison, Dexter Pittman from Texas only averaged about 5 minutes and 3 points a game his freshman year. He's now a junior and is turning into a solid big who is contributing about 15 minutes a game and knows his role. He dropped 25 on Missouri this week and will probably garner some 2nd team all Big 12 pre-season votes next year.

IMO, Brett is never going to be a 17/10 type player, especially in Majerus' system. He needs to continue to work hard, improve his range and low post moves. If he does, he'll have his nights where he drops 20 on some teams.

I see where you are coming from, but this is a team made up of underclassmen. If Brett doesn't play and get better and some big comes in next year and dominates and sucks up all BT's PT, then he will look elsewhere.

  9. I agree, Nashville, but this is a young team regardless. Don't you think that Majerus knows he's got to work with what he's got? Why not play Brett Thompson? This is unacceptable. You sign a recruit to play basketball, not be a cheerleader. Let's get that squared away right now. Brett Thompson is a good basketball player that needs to develop some confidence against quicker, more athletic teams. We know that. Thompson isn't going to wake up one day being the second coming of Handsboro. He's got to clock in and go to work when coach calls his number. No one goes to work at Boeing and goes to the R&D department and says, "I've been here a couple of months. I'm ready to build you an airplane," but you're expected to contribute to the good of the company. If Thompson rides the pine against all athletic teams in the A-10, why not ask for a transfer.

  10. I'd like to see us play 3-5 NonCon games against brother Jesuit schools every year.

A series with Marymount would give us some west coast exposure every-other-year in Los Angeles.

A series with Creighton would be a good Valley opponent and since we get a bunch of kids from Creighton Prep every year, we play them in St. Louis in November and schedule them in Omaha during Christmas so the CP kids can go root on the Bills at the Qwest Center.

A series with Georgetown billed as the two oldest and most prestigious Jesuit schools in the country. It would be a classic rivalry.

We know what Gonzaga does, but it would be nice to get them involved. We know that a resumed rivalry with Marquette would be bigger and better than ever with Majerus now on the Frost campus of Saint Louis University than on the MU campus.

Maybe we slide in a St. Peter's or Fairfield now and again or Canisius, but it would be nice to play LMU or Creighton every year. It beats Savannah State and Grambling.

Screw BC. Them going to the ACC made them too big for their britches.

  11. I think this year's SLU scheduling was a case of won-loss record cushioning, which is not all bad considering all the freshmen that SLU is playing this year. SLU's RPI has suffered as a result, but I'm confident that SLU is better than just the 173rd best team in college basketball, and I suspect other schools know that as well.

I'm sure Coach Majerus would like to beef up future schedules, but it takes two to tango.

Also, keep up your enthusiasm for SLU, Metz. SLU needs more guys like you on its side.

Damn right it does, Bay Area. Happy to oblige. I heart the Billikens.

We'll hopefully be adding one more Metzinger to the SLU ranks in August and there's a good chance she'll be suiting up for coach Champion's soccer squad as well. She'll be making another trip down from Peoria for the Dayton game.

  12. ** Don't forget, its a 6:00 Central Tip off.

Lets get in our seats early folks!

An aside, I attended the Mizzou/Baylor game on Saturday. I was very impressed that the student section was 80% full ten minutes before tipoff. Good job Mizzou students.... wish our students showed up that early to create the atmosphere from the opening tip- on.

    HA!

  13. I'd start a 10 year series with Utah or Washington if either wanted to do so. In honor of Brad, maybe Wisconsin would start one.

Or we could just schedule Loras. Wouldn't be a shocker to anyone who's followed the program for the last dozen years.

USC -- no, not Southern Cal - U of South Carolina Upstate Truck Design School and Kudzu Control Program

Samford -- no, not Stanford -- more like the show with Red Foxx.

    Talk about space-age RPI cushioning.
